As the last of the applicants turned in their test the lights began to dim down and the giant screen at the head of the room flashed on showing the UA logo.
"What's up ladies and gentlemen! Thanks you for tuning in to your schools resident DJ and even more so for applying to our glorious school! Come on and let me hear how excited you are" Present Mic the schools English teacher appeared on stage in a flamboyant manner."
"Whoo" I screamed already planning to pity him before I even arrived but, was a bit shocked hearing someone else scream out too.
Finding it's source I saw a skinny golden blonde kid beady blue eyes. I felt that I should recognize him but, couldn't quite place why.
"Alright" Present Mic screamed "It looks like we got some lively ones this year! Now let's get on with the Show! I'm going to tell you how all this is going to go down, let's start with the Practical Exam but, first I want to I want to try this again. Are you READY!?"
Me and the skinny kid shouted again and this time probably because of our earlier actions a couple more people joined in.
"Awesome! Now that's what I want to hear! Now if your read your application forms like any good aspiring Hero should then you know that you rock'n kids are going to be split into groups and be out there conducting epic mock battles to give you all the chance to show your stuff! Now after I drop the Mic your all going to be headed to your specified battle centers! Now onto the nitty gritty! In each battle center there are going to be three different types of robots that were designed by Power Loader himself!
Each of these robots is assigned a point value according the their strength! And your goal is going to be to gather as many points as possible within the timelimit by shredding them apart like an epic guitar solo! But, make sure to keep things heroic! That means no attacking other applicants as that would be a big no no!
Now onto the final boss! Each battle center has a special robot that's basically Godzilla that is programmed to destroy everything in its path! Now does anyone care to guess how many points the big kahuna is worth? No? Well, let me tell you this monster of mechanical mayhem is worth a grand total of 0 points! You didn't hear that wrong he's worth a big fat nothing!
We added him in to spice things up a bit and see what you're really made of, though I'd suggest to just avoid him! That's not to say he can't be beat it's just that there's kind of no point!
Welp, that's all I got for you today but, before I go I got a little present for you! A sample of our school motto as the great leader Napoleon Bonaparte once said 'A True Hero Is One Who Overcomes Life's Misfortunes' mhh, now that's an awesome lyric!
Now I just have one last thing to say to you, you ready to go beyond? PLUS ULTRA!"
After Present Mic's speech we were all loaded up into dozens of buses and taken to our battle centers which I instantly identified as Ground Beta. Thinking about the last time I was here reminded me of my dad again and kind of bummed me out. But, I shook it off and focused on what I needed to do.
With my current strength I didn't think I'd have any problems passing the exam and was even sure I'd get first place. The challenge for me was going to be passing without showing too much of my strength.
My plan was to temporarily stop enhancing my muscles with Chakra crippling my strength and making it at least a bit of a challenge. But, even that was a bit much concidering the base strength of my body. As for my Shadow Imitation Technique I wasn't actually even sure if I could use it since I had never tested to see if it worked on robots before. A bit of an oversight on my part but, nothing too important and if I needed to I could just use it to slow down the other applicants. Present Mic said we couldn't attack each other, he never said anything about slowing each other down.
Looking around I wanted to check out the competition before we started, since these would be my class mates for the next three years.
Most of them didn't look like anything special and were varying between nervous and terrorfied though a few of them seemed completely confident like I was and were probably the ones most likely to pass. I noticed that the skinny blonde kid was also assigned to my battle center. Looking at him he seemed like he wanted to run away but, there was a strange fire in his eyes that reminded me of Midoriya.
Tired of not knowing who he was when I felt like I should I decided to just go and talk to him and end this.
I silently walked up to him and hooked my arm around his shoulder "you look like you're gonna pee your pants" I joked "are you sure you wanna go through with this?"
"Yes" he declared with fire in his eyes throwing off my arm his neck "this is what I want to do! And no matter how scared I am I won't let you bully me into quiting!"
"Whoa" I waved my hands "who said I was trying to make you quit? I was just asking because of how conflicted you looked."
"Oh, sorry" he nervously rubbed his neck "I'm just tense right now sorry for snapping like that."
"No problem" I shrugged "but, judging by how your eyes looked a second ago I'd say you don't have anything to worry about."
"I don't know about that my Quirk isn't very good."
"Oh, what's so bad about it?"
"I-I don't think I should be telling you that this is a competition after all."
I rolled my eyes "Yeah, one where we're not allowed to attack each other. Besides if it's really as bad as you say then me knowing won't really give me much of an edge."
"That's true" his shoulder slumped realizing his Quirk wasn't exactly essential information "My Quirk is called Permeation it let's me pass through anything."
"Oh, shit it's Mirio Togata" I realized!
"That actually sounds pretty useful though" I cocked my head pretending I didn't already know about it.
"Only on paper" he sighed "When I said everything I meant EVERYTHING!"
I held my chin "So you fall through the ground making it hard to move?"
"Yes" he nodded "I also pass through light and the air arround me making it impossible to see or hear anything."
"Wow, that sucks" I stated.
"Yeah" he hung his head low before his determination kicked in again "But that doesn't matter! I'll become a great Hero no matter what" he clenched his fists!
"Hey" I said to him getting a sinister grin on my face.
"Yeah" he answered not liking my expression.
"I'm guessing that everything includes your clothes too?"
His face burned red and I broke out laughing.
"Well, when you use your Quirk in the exam try not to get excited thinking about all the pretty girls who are going to see you naked."
"Don't put stuff like that in my head" he screamed!
"Why? Are you afraid you won't be able to keep calm, if you know what I mean?"
Mirio looked like he was getting ready to punch me.
"Alright, calm down I was only joking."
"well it wasn't very funny" he scoffed.
I snickered again making him glare "Look I'm sorry for messing with you like that but, I just couldn't help myself. To make it up to you how about I offer a piece of advice that might help you pass the exam?"
"What" he looked at me interested!
I leaned closer to whisper in his ear "Destroying robots isn't the only way to earn points."
HIs eyes widened "what's the other way" he asked excited because destroying things wasn't really his strong suit?
"Just be a Hero" was all I said to him.
He deadpanned "you know that doesn't actually help me much right?"
I shrugged "I have one more piece of advice if you want it."
He looked eager again.
"Since you going to lose your clothes anyway you might as well own it. If you get in other peoples way they're probably going to avoid you not wanting to touch the weird naked guy, making them lose focus and get less points."
"Fuck You" he screamed!
I laughed like a mad man leaving Mirio on his own, I didn't worry about him too much since I was sure he would pass. Though I did wonder about Tamaki and Nejire the other two members of the Big Three I didn't see them in the auditorium and I was confident I would have been able to recognize a pretty girl like Nejire. It seemed like the two of them got in through recommendations.
While I was lost in my thoughts the giant gate blocking the way into the Omega Grounds started to swing open.
Without a second thought I started sprinting through the crownd to be the first inside.
"Hey!"
"Watch it!"
"That's cheating!"
"Yeah! We haven't been told to start yet!"
By the time anyone had properly reacted I was already inside and destroying robots.
"Unfair!"
"I demand he be disqualified!"
Angry voices rang out upset at my actions.
"Sorry" Present Mic's voice came over the intercom "but, the exam started the second those gates opened! In a real battle there isn't going to be any starting sign!"
Hearing his word everyone could only grit their teeth and rush in after me to get the scraps I was leaving behind in the starting area.
Rushing forward I prioritized the two and three pointers not even bothering with the robots worth one point.
I could easily punch through the robots and rip them apart with my bare hands if I used Chakra but, I held back and used disabling blows to take out their joints and obvious weak points. It didn't even seem like it took a strong hit to take them out, the school probably did that to gove people with less combat oriented Quirks a better chance to get through. Though I was sure not many other realized that since everyone was giving this test their all and holding nothing back.
Around five minutes in and I already destroyed 15 three pointers and 20 two pointers giving me 85 points which was already higher than Bakugo's score in the show. Knowing I had more than enough point I figured I could take the rest of the exam easy and give everyone else an opportunity to score points.
Moving along the roof tops I had an excelent view of the battle fields since most of the robots were on street level. And I was enjoying the show there were lasers and explosions everywhere and I even saw a pair of twins whose Quirk was to fuse together into a giant werewolf looking monster.
My real goal for now though was to look for Mirio and see how he was doing and if there was anything I could do to help.
