What They Think About Me

I woke up earlier than usual the next day. Since Geoff is back, Nancy slept downstairs with the other maids. I went directly to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for me and Geoff. This time, I won't be intimidated with anyone's presence, including Regina.

It is only past 4 a.m. and as expected, everyone is still asleep. I checked the fridge and was surprised to see how big it is. It is like the fridge you see in grocery stores. Inside it, you can see almost every ingredient you need for cooking. It has all kinds of meat and vegetables. On the side, it has eggs and cheese. I opened the other fridge door and in here, you can see many kinds of drinks. I never thought I am missing a lot of things by not exploring the kitchen. We also have a small fridge upstairs but it only has a few things, just some eggs and drinks.

I choose bacon and some eggs for breakfast. I made myself busy by cooking bacon in a pan while preparing eggs. A little later, a maid in his early fifties joined me in the kitchen and she doesn't look pleased. I could hear banging of utensils and containers on her side but I didn't mind her. Both of us were quiet and just focused on what we were doing, I cooking breakfast while she also prepares to cook. I never dared look at her.

A few moments later, other maids came to help the older woman. I didn't look at them but I have to say I was expecting they would at least greet me. There is an aura of awkwardness in the kitchen. How I wish I would be finished preparing breakfast soon.

I put everything I need on a tray and was about to head upstairs when I the oldest maid started talking.

"Next time, if you need something, you can just order us. Don't make us feel useless by doing things by yourself and treating us like ghosts."

I was flustered with what I heard. I decided to just let it go.

"And don't be so rude. I know we are just maids. I don't expect you to respect us, you don't even know how to respect Madam Regina, but at least treat us like humans. Being a wife of Sir Geoff doesn't give you any right to say bad things about us." She continued.

Hearing these things makes me more surprised and confused at the same time. I never had a chance to talk to anyone of them let alone talk to anyone of them.

"Excuse me, but I think there is some sort of misunderstanding here. I have been staying here for less than a week now and this is the closest encounter I have with you. I never felt I was welcome in this place since the first day I got here and you never heard anything from me. I stay in our room most of the time so I won't make anyone of you feel uncomfortable with my presence. This is my first time to come in this kitchen. When did I disrespect anyone of you?" I asked. She is starting to get into my nerves.

"Stop pretending to be nice. You can show your true colors in front us. We have already heard many things about you. I have been serving this house since he was little and I know the likes of women like you." The other maids are now murmuring to themselves.

"And who told you those stories about me? Don't you have your own thoughts that you believe in what other people tell you without investigating?" I asked.

The three of them became quiet. I was hoping they would at least ask me questions and clarify things with me.

"You can ask me things directly and if there is something that you don't like about me then I would welcome if you come to me and say it straight to my face. I just want to live here peacefully without arguing with anyone."

"Then why don't you make amends with Mrs. Park?" One younger maid asked.

I wanted to answer the question but at the same time, I don't need to explain myself to them. They have been brainwashed by Regina, that's for sure and it's difficult to change their impression about me now.

"What's between me and Regina is something that the two of us have to deal with. So, please, if you cannot be nice to me at least don't be bad to me." I ended, got the tray and went back to my bedroom.

Geoff is already sitting on the sofa when I got back, reading morning newspaper.

"What took you so long? I was already planning to call the security. I thought you were already kidnapped." He said teasing.

I smiled. "I prepared breakfast. Wait, I will make coffee for the two of us."

"Did Regina tell you anything about me? Maybe she said something nasty about me." I asked while making coffee.

"We barely talk. And I'm sure she will never to that. You are my wife, she will be dead if she says something that can hurt you. Did something happen"

"Nothing. I'm just curious. Actually, I and some maids had an argument a while back. I don't know her name, we were not introduced. The woman who is quite older than the others said I should respect them and show some respect to them but I never had a chance talking to them in the past. I was suspecting Regina told them about it."

"I think you are talking about Alice. She has been staying here since I was young. She and Regina are quite close. Do you want me to do something about it?"

"No. You don't need to do anything. I can sort things out myself."

"Are you sure?" I am now sitting next to him. He is only wearing a robe which I find very sexy.

"I want to do something with you though. Maybe we can do something quite quick before breakfast?" I asked, hoping he also feels the same.

"I would love that." He started kissing me and we did what we had to do on the sofa.

Geoff brought me to the office that day. "Expect to see me after an hour." He said which left me puzzled but excited. Thinking of meeting him during my work hours makes me look forward for the day. We were not able to spend the last days together due to his business trip and now that he is here, I just want to spend more time with him.

When I reached the office, I was told that Mr. Smith was looking for me so I headed directly to his office. He came in earlier than usual.

"Good morning, sir." I said immediately as I entered his office. He is sitting in his chair looking very serious.

"We have an emergency, Jessica." He said, ignoring my greeting. "The CEO of Limited Group called very early this morning and said his boss will come here anytime today to have a meeting with us. He said his boss wants to talk about the advertising campaign we are planning for their company. I hope you have some plans and presentations ready before they arrive. Can you make it?"

"Don't worry about it sir. I have been working about ideas on how we can run the campaign. I think we have something to present to them."

His face suddenly lighten up hearing what I said. "Thank God, Jessica. What will I do without you? By the way, I couldn't help but notice the rings on your finger. Is there something you want to share to me?"

I was quiet for some time. I didn't know how to react.

"It's okay if you can't tell me. You look and happy and better these days. Whatever it is or whoever it is, I'm happy for you." He finally said. I just smiled at him and excused myself.

I realized I never even told Annie about my wedding. I also didn't have a chance to talk to her recently because of my busy schedule. I've been worried about a lot of things that I forgot about her completely.

And today, Geoff will be coming here. Should I introduce him to Annie as my husband? Should I also tell Mr. Smith about it? I'm sure they will be very surprised and people in this company will start treating me better. I don't want anything to change. I'm already comfortable with how it is now.
