CHAPTER 46 - Unexpected Allies

*****

It is now the first day of the third week of that month, actually, two days later, that's already gone and passed by in Z-city.

And on that first day of the two, Eden had finally gotten the courage to tell the group about what she had seen and also admitted that she sneaked out and went into the city alone on her own.

Needless to say, they were all disappointed and upset with her when Eden gave her honest admission about her late-night outings into Z-city, but then some of them understood how she had felt antsy upon being stuck inside Safe Haven for so long and believed that she went out without worry since the others were there to look after her children and the group members.

Still, they didn't hesitate to voice out their negative opinion and disapproval over it and sternly scolded Eden about how reckless and dangerous it was that she went out on her own without telling anyone, as well as going out alone during those terrifying times at late nights in her outings.

Eden had already known she was in for it as she told them the truth but then she tried to ignore and not show the hurt on her face when she noticed how Ryu and Sahara were looking at her with disappointment.

On the last of the second day, she went out into Z-city again, but this time with the company, that is Ryu, Sahara, and Daiyu, to check on and scope out the group of survivors that Eden had seen.

However, when they returned at the time during the sun was just setting down on the horizon, they returned, surprisingly with the new group of survivors and they were instantly forced to do it without checking if they were truly good people or not because one of them was revealed to be in a very delicate kind of condition that this one and their group had to be brought back into Safe Haven.

At first, the others back in Safe Haven were a little upset that Eden and the three others brought the new people back, but the minute they caught sight of the person who seemed to be in a fragile state, they immediately accepted them in without question or hesitation, even though the only ones who are confused about this were the children, and Eden herself, who hid her annoyance and frustration by the group's instant acceptance of the new one.

Though Eden wouldn't admit it out loud, it looks like bringing in this new survivor group is a good thing, because another one of them is a certified fully experienced doctor.

Granted, the doctor seemed to be young in his late twenties or so, and he only had a few years of expert residency in his field, Eden was relieved to finally have professional medical help in their group in case one or two of them might get themselves into a major life-threatening injury that no one could ever treat or fix, even by Eden's slightly skilled medical standards from what she had learned or experienced through one year alone back then since the start of the zombie apocalypse and such.

The new group of survivors was all settling in, thanks to the kindness and gentleness of the others with the children and Eden watching by in the background, seemingly to be hiding from view until the children boldly took on the brave step into greeting the new people and Eden was the only one left behind and watching them with suspicious eyes alone by the shadows.

After Eden watched them for a silent moment or so, she decided to go back up on the rooftop in Safe Haven and softly told Nadia that she'll be taking over the night-watch and guard shift at the time which Nadia nodded that she'll tell the others about it, and then Eden went upstairs with her loyal dog Luna following after her, to keep her company.

Right before Eden went to the roof, she went over to check on her two kids Michael and Annie to see if they were fine without her for the night, and they confirmed that they'll be fine as they'll be sleeping over happily with their friends, along with Archer too, who seemed to be grown up into a responsible guard dog for the children at the time.

Once Eden is done checking on them, she and Luna went upstairs, settled themselves next to their watch post with the telescope to look out into Z-city at nighttime and then Eden just sat down on her chair and relaxed while alertly looking through the scope with her sharp eyes to see if she can spot any hidden or lurking dangers and threats that might be out there in the streets of the zombie-infested city.

So far, there's nothing, much to Eden's relief as time passed by in about two to three hours or so, but Eden is not letting her guard down just for the moment as she planned to stay awake and alert for the entire night on her guard-shift duty and everything.

But as of right now and then at that time of night Eden is in, she also decided to write another new entry into her journal, which she brought along just in case for this particular occasion, and she did as she took it out from her thick winter jacket and then started writing into it, adding in the recent events that have happened and anything that is going on right here and now, even from the past days before.

JOURNAL ENTRY: DAY UNKNOWN, 11TH MONTH NOVEMBER, YEAR 2XXX

Hey, it's Eden again.

Well, I did it.

I told them the truth about what I did for the past nights I've been gone on my own alone when I had my 'cabin fever' moments, which I'm sure others would agree that it was stupid and reckless.

Their responses were expected as I confessed and admitted the truth that I went out alone out there into Z-city to clear my head from any worries or attempt to get fresh air for myself to refresh my entire being or something of the sort.

They gave me all their expected disappointed looks and upset expressions on their faces after I also told them that I had spotted another new group of survivors but I reassured them that they didn't see me when I spotted them by accident or fate or something.

Ryu and Sahara were looking at me with the most disappointing looks on their faces, that no matter how much I try ignoring it, I felt hurt the same way they felt hurt too when I didn't confide in them about my problems and the antsy feelings I had been getting when I consider these two as my trusted close friends in my mind.

But I did what I did and it was already done and over with, so I told them, gave my peace of mind about it, and then asked them about the matter that we need to settle with, which is the new group of survivors that I had seen in Z-city days before.

It was already decided that there would be a few of us to go out there into Z-city to check them out and see if the new survivors are good people--or the bad hostile kinds.

And I'm the one who can still go out there, just to lead the way on where I had spotted them and knowing where they are temporarily staying, and the other ones who are coming with me, specifically are Sahara, Daiyu, and Ryu.

We had equipped ourselves and gotten ready by the next day from the first one, and when we got there from a faraway distance but still ensuring that we have a clear line of sight upon seeing them from a distance, we saw something shocking that the other three instantly decided we should bring them in, even though it's only been a few minutes at that very day we have been scoping and checking the new surviving people out.

And the very one person among them in that new group is revealed to be pregnant for that matter.

It does not look like the pregnant one is due yet, but her noticeable slightly large belly was there for all of us to see when we did, and Sahara didn't hesitate to voice her opinion that we should bring them back to Safe Haven because of her fragile delicate condition.

I was the only one who protested that we shouldn't bring them back to our safe secure place, but then I was upset when I got outvoted by the other two men, and I almost thought that Ryu is taking Sahara's side on that matter because he's still upset with me for going out on my own alone without telling them.

So here we are, we brought in the new group of survivors and the others back to the safe place were wary at first, but it didn't take long for them to be friendly and gentle since the new group had a pregnant person they were being overprotective over with.

These new survivors are the following, which are Remi, Tanya, and Tara, the three women, and Remi are of Russian heritage, while the other two are of Jewish descent. And Tanya is the one that is pregnant.

The last two are men, and one of them is a German doctor--much to our relief on finding out about it--and his name is Erik. And the last man is Roman and Russian, as well as Remi's older brother.

All of them looked to be strong fighters from their appearances and Tanya was the only burden they have in their group as they tried their best into protecting her from any threats and dangers surrounding them like the zombies and the hostile survivors, and it seemed they went through hell into scavenging and searching for supplies to feed their vulnerable member who needed it the more than them.

Despite that they were content and relieved that they have a doctor with them, that is their close friend Erik, they were still in a fragile and harried state because of what they'd been through in surviving this zombie apocalypse.

As for the father of Tanya's baby, it was a bit of a surprise to know that she confessed that she got artificially inseminated by her self-decision for she didn't want to be with any other man to have a baby and use scientific means to do so because she had issues long ago before with men before the zombie apocalypse happened.

I was shocked and a little impressed to say that Tanya didn't regret one bit of her decision to have a baby even in the middle of a zombie apocalypse back then, but I knew that it is because she had a support group with the others in her own as they are happy to look after and care for her, even protect her by all their efforts to make sure she has birthed her baby despite the horrific world they're now in.

I wonder to myself what's in store for us in the future with a newborn baby in the mix, once it's born sometime then.

It looks like only time will tell when it happens. So I'll be ending this entry quickly right here until the next time about whatever events happen next.

So, until then, this is Eden signing off.

After Eden finished writing the new entry into her journal with a satisfying flourish of sorts, she put it back inside her jacket and hid it there, tucked safely in place before she resumed her watch duties there at her post on the rooftop.

It was fortunate that it isn't snowing that night, either light or heavy kinds, but Eden knew better than to underestimate the weather in case another unexpected snowstorm or blizzard might come blowing through their way in Safe Haven, there in Z-city.

As she patted Luna on the head to comfort her dog like it somehow knew or sensed Eden's emotions at the time, Eden looked through the telescope to double-check anything that she might have missed upon seeing or spotting something, but she was a little relieved that there's none, though she's not letting her guard down in case something might happen.

Eden also looked like she was thinking deeply over something, and that was something that concerns the new group of survivors she and her group had taken in and brought home here in Safe Haven.

She seemed to be wondering what's in store for them in the future with the new people, as well as possibly their unexpected allies if the time comes or not, as the season goes on almost near or still far away for the next month at that wintertime of the year and soon the time will come to be for the new one then.
