After their meals, the five kids hurriedly went back to their secret base to play. The group are preparing like they were going to play "Ghost hunting" in the castle. They haven't explored the area yet since the group needs everyone to play. They held flashlights as they walked inside an unexplored chamber. They clearly borrowed it.
Before the group started the game, Maxon looked around and asked, "Why are those those three not still here yet?" The three people mentioned were their other group mates that they seldomly go out and play with them.
The group was not surprised of this question, they glanced at each other and in the end Samantha spoke, "All of us met them yesterday and it turns out that they we're escorted by their parents in cars. You were still sleeping at that time."
"Really..." Maxon's voice became feeble. Although they seldom play with each other, especially with all the eight kids, they had a fun time together. The other kids were sad too but they quickly hid their emotion thanks to the dark room. "Let's go."
It was Oliver who spoke. This time he was an acting leader of the group. He maybe does not believe in the existence of ghosts or he may actually be super excited in seeing one but in the end, he had mustered courage out of nowhere.
He held the doorknob and slowly opened the door. The door made a really weird 'creak' sound which stupefied the girls instantly. Take note everyone was silent here, and the atmosphere has had creepy vibes, so a sudden sound. They screamed and hugged the hands of the person closest to them. They had hugged with each other, not one of the boys. Don't run your imagination wildly.
The end of the door didn't show any light as expected. It was another dark room with the insides unknown. Oliver flashed his flashlight in the new room. They saw rats running against the light and the spider hid against the light. It was a long hallway. There are statues of knights in stone and had a huge sword in the floor held by their arms. The helmet was old and was full of grass.
"It looks really scary, we are reenacting a scenario in a cliched horror story." Richard, being knowledgeable, joked. "You mean the stories all of us watched in a television?" Samantha recalled a funny event that happened a month ago.
All of them laughed on this memorable experience, they remembered Brent--one of the three friends who went home without them--punched the television when a typical jumpscare scared him from the ending scene of the 'Paranormal Activity', and pissed his pants and cried. Oh his family also ended paying up the broken television, and he was scolded for a week until he can finally go out.
They walked through the hallway like they were taking a stroll on their own backyard. They totally forgot the earlier scenario of their nervousness and fear in the face of the unknown castle.
The group had reached the end of the hallway easily and found a door amongst the wall, it's quite unnecessary to have a wide hallway just to connect a single door at the other side of the wall. Oliver volunteered to open the door, again. They followed after him.
The door had opened with the same sound of it creaking weirdly. The sound should not be weird like this, but it never bothered the group again, especially for the girls.
The flashlight lit and Oliver looked inside, it was a room with two doorways from each side, there was a table that is unusually clean with a paper on top. Looking closely, it was a map. It showed all the rooms in the map including the hallway, a red X was marked to one of those rooms.
Maxon held the map in hand and passed it to the other members, letting them see the locations of the map. He then discussed after a few moments. "I found an X to one of these rooms, should we go there?"
"It looks like a treasure map, maybe there is something hidden in the room?" Richard pondered of all the possibilities like a strategist. Hearing a possible conclusion, Rose joked, "Maybe they hid ghost there?" They laughed and discussed.
After the moments of the so called discussion, Maxon concluded. "We have to go to this room so we would know what is inside." The others nodded as a sign of approval.
Maxon and his friends journeyed across the castle. With he map in hand, they were much safer and going through rooms made it more convenient. A while later they arrived on their location, the room that had a mark in it.
Oliver opened the door first, and looked inside with the flashlight. It was a bedroom, but there was an opened door to the basement, nothing like the possibilities they have pictured in mind. Maxon took a matchbox from his pocket and lit a nearby candle. The room was bright, and everyone stayed in the room for awhile.
"So what do we do now? Do we call quits or not?" Maxon asked the group. The kids glanced at each other and cheered at the same time.
"Explore!"
Thus the group quickly went below the stairs, not with fear, but only excitement with their faces. They are an adventurous bunch.
