Chapter 17: the individual known as Markus

Markus's POV:

What is it that defines the world?

Is it the laws of science?

Is it the influence of some higher being?

Is it the vain pleasure of currency?

Is it the great illusion of morality?

Is it the chaos of magic?

Is it the mischievous flow of chance?

Is it arbitrary and unreasonable hand of destiny?

Why is it that people are alive?

Is it because of biological function?

Their consciousness?

their ideals?

Their love?

Their beliefs?

Their soul?

Their meaning?

What is "a man"?

A miserable pile of secrets?

A dumpster fire of hypocrisy?

A malignant abyss of cruelty?

An insignificant ant under a magnifying glass?

A mind bogglingly stupid mass of mistakes?

Or are they just simply confused children, trying to do their best in an unfair world?

Are they pioneers of their own lives?

Are they heroes of their own stories?

Are they the villains in other people's stories?

Do their actions matter?

Does anything matter?
