While we were thinking Leana added one more thing "There is no direct route from this city to another border city. We would need to either go back to a city where there is a road to another border city or we have to go through the forest. The distance to the nearest border city is not far and we should be able to get there in at most 3 days of travelling. On the other hand, if we decide to go to a connecting city, it might take 8 to 10 days."
"Why is there no road to the nearest border city." asked Turek curiously.
"Border cities are mostly considered worthless. Their only reason for existence is the wall. They are used to support the wall guard stations. There is no reason to move from one border city to another. After all, you would move to a bigger city with more opportunities if you are after a better life. I have heard that people still do it and some go directly instead of going to a connecting city."
"So how do we travel?" I brought up the main question.
"Well there are caravans to and from connecting cities to border cities. So we should be able to get on one if we decide to go to a connecting city. We will have to pay the caravans I suppose but I don't know how much since I have never been to another city as well. On the other hand, if we go directly to another border city, then the only option is to walk. "
I looked at Cleo and Turek and they seemed to be in agreement with me.
"We will go directly to the border city"
"Yeah, it seems much faster,'' said Cleo
"I am good with it too," said Turek while nodding.
Leana looked at us with surprise.
"Are you guys not scared? We will have to travel through forests, cross rivers and mountains and who knows what dangers we might encounter! It's much safer to go through connecting city."
"I think we should be fine Leana." said Cleo with a smile.
Leana looked around and seeing that both Turek and I agreed said with a shrug "I am fine with direct route if you guys are".
"So what are towns nearest to us?" asked Cleo
"There is the town Tiaanway on the east and Kremanal on the west. Both are about the same distance and I don't think it will matter which one we choose.
"Since it doesn't matter, lets just pick one. Umm.. How about Tiaanway?"
Nobody had any objections so Tiaanway was decided. We didn't know anything about either of the cities, so there was not much we could base our decision on.
It was already quite late, so we decided to leave the discussion of supplies and preparation until the morning. Then Cleo asked Leana
"Leana, why don't you just sleep here tonight? It's quite late already."
"Oh… ok. But there are only 3 beds"
"Don't worry we will adjust and make room for you"
So we decided to share the 3 beds across 4 people. The beds were not that big and we would need to sleep shoulder to shoulder.
We slept in the same way as the night before, except Leana was between me and Cleo. I hoped this way, I can avoid a repeat of yesterday's incident.
