Of all times my stupid fiance had to come, she just had to come during my moment with Gloria. Why the hell did I even agree to this sh*tty arranged marriage with a spoiled brat?
When I first met Laura, I saw that she was unbelievably gorgeous. Around that time, my parents brought up the topic of arranging a marriage between us. I unknowingly said yes to marrying a devil in disguise.
We met a couple times at parties. Everytime we saw each other, Laura would fall into my arms. Literally. She would walk up to me and trip herself and have me save her from the fall. To all the others, it seemed like a scene out of a drama. After a while, she must've gotten tired of the same thing over and over so she tried something new.
She spiked my drink and had me brought to her room. Luckily, Zachary was there as well and was able to save me before Laura came. I spent the next few days in bed suffering from all the after effects. Laura wanted to visit me but I had Zachary refuse entrance to anyone other than my doctor.
"She is such a motherf*cking b*tch," Mabel seethed. Apparently, Mabel, Gloria, and Laura all went to the same college and there was drama between them. I glanced at Gloria and saw that her face was empty of any emotion.
"Gloria, you should-" Mabel turned and saw that Gloria's face had no emotions at all. "Gloria! Come on, you can do it. Get out of your head, Gloria. It's all in the past. Wake up, Gloria!"
"What happened to her?" Zachary asked.
"She went through traumatic times during college. She's going through one of her phases. Her reactions are a lot better now. In the past, she would just fall unconscious for days and wake up with no memory of what happened," Mabel explained. She shook Gloria but there was no response. She was just like a doll.
"The doctors said that she is in her safe haven in her brain when this happens. All we have to do is try to wake her up. If that doesn't work, I'll have to give her a pill." Mabel continued to try anything to get Gloria's consciousness. By now, Laura was about 20 steps away.
"How about you bring Gloria into the tent and try to wake her up?" I suggested. Whatever happened back then must've been really bad for this to happen. Mabel nodded and took her away with the help of Zachary.
"I was looking for you everywhere!" Laura tried to hug me but I sidestepped and let her hug the air.
"What do you want this time?" Whenever she came to the base, she would always request for something.
"I need you to be my plus one at the military celebration. I need to show all the ladies there that you are mine." Laura seductively placed a hand on my chest but I shook it off.
"No thanks. You can bring someone else."
"But our parents will break this engagement up if you don't want to be my partner. If that happens, you're sister might not be cured because you need my family's expertise and influence," Laura said. She always used that to threaten me. But there was nothing I could do. Laura came from a family of doctors. The only people with more power than them in the field was the Lee family. Unfortunately, I was not close enough with them to ask them to help my sister.
My sister Isabella suffered from an unknown mental disorder. At the beginning, she started screaming in the middle of the night. After that, she refused to eat. This led to many problems in her body. Now, she looked like the walking dead.
"We'll see then. I'll tell you if I can be your partner. Now, please leave. I'm very busy." I pushed her away. I watched as she walked to her private helicopter and flew away from the base. Once I saw that she was gone, I walked into the infirmary. I saw that Gloria returned to her normal state.
She saw me and stood up.
"What's wrong with your sister? I heard about it right when I woke up from my safe haven," Gloria explained.
"She's the walking dead. She has this unknown mental disorder and it's given my family a lot of problems. I'm engaged to Laura because their family claimed that they have a chance of curing Isabella. A year has passed and nothing much has improved. My family is close to breaking the engagement off.
Originally, the engagement was settled before my sister had problems. Right after the engagement, my sister went crazy. The McKinley family claimed that they had the cure so we let the engagement be. Now, we know that they don't truly have the cure because they have done everything and nothing works so we're about to break it off." I sat down on the chair and sighed. Life was so confusing right now.
"Can I see Isabella?" she asked. I furrowed my eyebrows and shook my head.
"I would love for you to see her but my parents don't allow outsiders in. They only let prestigious doctors examine her," I said. Mabel snorted. She whispered something to Zachary and his reaction told me that he just heard some unbelievable news.
"Is she really?" he asked. Mabel nodded. I looked quizzically at Gloria. She smiled.
"What if I told you that I am from the Lee family? Like, I'm the future heir of the Lee's wealth." Gloria leaned forward and stared into my eyes. I sat there silently and took in the news.
"But your family rarely attends the parties. How would I know if you really are from the Lee family?"
"Because of this." She showed me the necklace tucked under her shirt. "This is the family identification. All the members have this charm on their watch, necklace, earrings, or bracelet."
I looked closely and saw that it truly was the Lee family's identification.
"Wow. Okay." I stood up and walked around. "I'll let you see her then. We all have a vacation in 2 weeks so we'll see Isabella then. But I'm warning you in case I forget. Isabella is crazy."
