Chapter 55: A Captain's Past!!

As the commotion inside the Warehouse has finally reached its conclusion, we find the policewomen Henders and Hannie resting somewhere at the corner while the rest of the police force apprehends the remaining criminals who are still alive for questioning.

Although Henders was seen to be scowling as she palmed her head in frustration.

"Damn it. The Police Captain frowns while shaking her head out of disappointment. "The other group seemed to have made their escape. We might have garnered some more information out of them."

Then Henders muttered as she gave her input about that group in suspicion. "I believe that they are no ordinary crook in the streets given how they demonstrated remarkable feats during their gun exchange with the other group. They are rather well-trained, even for the standards of a normal criminal syndicate."

"Hehe yeah…" Hannie simply chuckled in response, voicing out her own opinion in a cheerful manner despite how they just recently came out from a no joke of a life-threatening situation just earlier. "The Underworld sure has its interesting bunch of baddies!! I wonder if HQ is going to send us more operations here in the future?"

"I'm not exactly thrilled if that's the case." Henders seeing the optimistic look of her subordinate could not help but also smile at the pink-haired girl's liveliness in response and sighed deeply. "But at the same time, I'll also be glad if that is going to happen."

"Hmm…" Hannie stroked her chin rather cutely in confusion, trying to get the Captain to elaborate her statement.

The adorable reaction of the pink-haired girl was not gone unnoticed by Henders as she indeed does so with a solemn tranquil smile.

"You may not know this…" Henders said, her tone suddenly turning a bit dark as she began to tell tales of her past. "When I was a child, my family and I live somewhere in the slums… of the Underworld."

"The slums?" Hannie was a bit shock by this revelation.

"Yes." Henders nodded. "Every day, my mother and I try to get by as we work for a criminal syndicate, being slaves in a drug factory. My mother works to the bone day and night just so that our so-called Criminal overlords would feed us even a single loaf of bread and provide less than the minimum wage for our exhausting efforts. It was like a living Hell for us all in there. Even the children like myself are not spared by slavery and atrocity as we too are forced to work for them. One day though, while my mother was doing her usual work in the factory, some Drug lord caught his eyes on her, going as far as to claim her as his own. Of course, I was absolutely in disagreement with the bastard as I defiantly tried to go against him. Alas, being a weak child, he just simply swatted me away like a pathetic bug and I could not do anything as I feel helpless staring at the scum taking away my mother from a distance. Then…"

Tears started to pour right at the Captain's eyes as every detail of the traumatic memories resurfaced forth in her head, anguish slowly consuming her.

"Uh… you don't have to continue ma'am." Hannie looks concern as she tried her best to comfort her Captain.

"No…" Henders shook her head. "It would be bad for my health if I keep the despair piling up in my heart."

Then she continues as Henders snapped out of her tears and resolve to tell her story.

"After my mother's abduction, I was up all night crying and worrying about my mother's safety. I was also filled with deep rage at the man who took my only family away from me, cursing and ranting unspeakable words unbefitting for a child. Then, it happens… The very next day, the factory was raided by the Police and thus, we were finally saved from the tragedy. Turns out, the reason why the police were able to find the factory is because of my mother."

"Wow, what did your mom do?" Hannie was indeed drawn by her Captain's story as her eyes did not even shy away for even a second while Henders spoke.

Henders smiled with pride, but one could see the sadness accompanied by the expression. "It was my mother who gave the factory's exact location away by using the telephone to call the police inside the main office where the criminal bastard has brought her. The Police were able to trace the call and send forces to rescue all of us. Indeed, we were thrilled when they arrived and finally freed us from the criminal grasp that has chained us for years. But my mother though…"

Henders took a deep breath as this particular memory has left behind a very huge scar on her life, something that changes her forever.

"When the police breached in the office, what they saw is only the corpse of a woman with a bullet shot on her chest… my mother. The police deduce that she was killed out of frustration at being ratted out and the killer… seemed to have escaped." Henders said, feeling enraged that her mother's murderer is still out there.

"After the incident, I was adopted by one of the Police officers, Colonel William Rogers himself who back then was a Police Major and was the one leading the operation. I asked him why he adopted me and he said that it is not right for a child as young as myself to witness the very death of their own parent personally, especially in such a gruesome manner. Huh, if I know the old man, then he's just worried that I'm going to turn into some angst kid who's only desire is revenge and wander off aimlessly in search of my mother's murderer. The old man then told me that instead of drowning myself in self-pity, I should be using this incident as a motivation to prevent something traumatic like this to never happen again and he suggested that I should focus on the things that I can realistically do and contribute, like training myself up and joining the police. I agreed in the end, grateful that Colonel Williams provided with everything that I need and when I come of age, I joined the Police Academy, pledging to rid every criminal scum in the streets until all of the Kingdom is safe from their vile corruption, not wanting a repeat of the tragedy that has destroyed a lot of innocent lives and also to bring justice to the one who wrongfully killed my mother. And here in the Underworld is where the center of notorious criminal activities takes place. It would be my pleasure to cleanse and deliver justice in this godforsaken place."

Henders said all of this with a sheer amount of conviction, her voice unwavering as she steeled herself greatly in all these years to remain strong and vigilant in fulfilling her duties as an officer of the Police force.

"T-that's…"

And Hannie, oh boy, she was now seen to be all over in tears in an exaggerated manner, seemingly touched by the story that Henders had told her.

"I'm so sorry Captain!!!" Hannie was hugging her superior out of pure sadness much to the annoyance of Henders.

"I sincerely appreciate the gesture recruit but get off me!!" Henders comically touched the pink-haired girl's face as she pushed slightly away.

"Oh Captain…" Hannie wipe her tears as she released her hug and stared at her Captain, eyes twinkling in admiration and a new light. "From this day forth, I will be your ally in every way!! Allow me to help you in your goal Captain and I swear nothing but the only the best out of me."

Hender now was staring at her subordinate with her eyes widening in appreciation as she smiled. "I… thank you, Hannie."

Now it was Hannie's eyes turn to widen at hearing her very own name coming from the Captain. After all, the young girl was only referred as recruit by the whole squad, so this was definitely a welcome gesture.

"Did, did I hear right, the Captain calling me by my… name?!!"

Then once more without any shame, Hannie hugged the blonde policewoman but this time, even tighter like not wanting to let go.

"KYAA!!!! The Captain calling me Hannie!!! This is the best day of my life!!!"

"Damn it recruit, get off me, I demand you!!!" Henders struggle to comically get herself off from her subordinate's affectionate grasp but failing as the pink-haired proves to be a lot stronger than she has expected despite her small frame.

"Oh, Captain…" Hannie purred adoringly like a pampered cute cat. "Call me Hannie."

Brandon, Charlie, and Oliver as they entered the warehouse were undoubtedly concerned for their two squadmates.

As the trio saw and approached the two policewomen, they could only witness the hilarious scene going on between the two.

The three policemen look at each other and wonder in confusion at what the hell did they just missed?!
