Chapter 2

As Nathan changing the channels every sec, he stops by a certain channel. He noticed the news about the person that he admires the most and he stops by and watches it. Reporter talking cheerfully "It's been 8 years since this company has started, from its small business company into the most glorious company, Real World Company. The one who leads this is a promising man whose background is from the common people and now rises to the riches people and now let's welcome Mr. Recca B. Gatdula. It was said that Mr. Gatdula was the first man who published the findings of a new code structure that is exact and the same capacity of our brain and released a device that could intercept brain waves that can control full of our five senses in the virtual world. These findings lead the company to a huge jump of growth and made into leading facilities towards technology.

Sound of the applause and cheering echoed, vibrating throughout the room and the light that the television emitted made the room glow from the darkness. His mom who was still awoken at that time notices the ruckus of the room Nathan. "Nathan...! Turn down that TV...! Don't make me come up in your room...!" the loud call from his mom could penetrate the wall and Nathan heard that. "Okay, Mom..!" turn off the TV and headed to his desk. He turns his lamp and gets his laptop and his tool and brings out a broken phone. "What's the problem with this phone? This is the latest model and yet it got broke fast."

When his mom was about to sleep he saw the light coming from the room of Nathan. She was worried that Nathan that is still awake, so she visit his room. She looks at the gap of the door and saw Nathan busy at his old laptop. "This kid would taste my wrath this evening..." rolled up her sleeves, ready to beat Nathan but was stopped midway when he saw the determined look and passion of Nathan. He just sermon Nathan "Nathan, it's already late at night. You still have your class tomorrow. Don't forget that deal you have with me and your father." Engrossed at his work, he didn't hear his mother sermon. His mother got pissed but she still can control it. "Nathan, Go to sleep now...!" Nathan didn't hear his mother. His mother blows off from her uncontrolled anger, she rolled up his sleeves and uses his slippers to smack at Nathan. She grabs Nathan's shoulder and when He turned his head, he just gives her a warm smile. Her mom just gives also a smile, a devilish smile. "Argh...!" His mom left the room "If I found out that you didn't sleep tonight you know what you'll get tomorrow morning." Nathan just cries off the beating he receives, continuing his work while sniffing his nose.

My name is Nathan S. Donaire, last year at his senior high school. Only 6 months left for me to graduate. You may ask why I fix the phone. I aspire to become a man who has the most accomplishment, Mr. Gatdula. Fixing the phone is just the step on becoming one like him. I want to follow his path as he emerges from the harsh part of life unto the luxurious life he has now. I came from just a common people status. Not too poor and not too rich, just in middle.

Nathan is engrossed, he didn't bother that his sweat his dropping from his face. Then he taps on his laptop. "Yes...! I've fixed it... Not bad for my first time fixing this kind of model. "Admiring his beautiful work, then he looks at his alarm clock. "What the... It's already 5:30 in the morning... oh shit...! What am I gonna do?" thinking some idea and goes to the bathroom to wash his face. He looks at the mirror and saw his black eye bags. "It so obvious... is there anything for me to cover this..." when he was looking at the mirror he notices a there is a makeup kit at the table. He thought something brilliant

His mom cooking breakfast and lunch "Nathan, go down already and eat your breakfast." His father who just got out saw him and slips on his footing "MY GOD...! Argh...! My back." writhe on his agony on the bathroom floor tiles while touching his back. "Dad, what happened?" to help his dad get up on his feet. His mom heard the commotion. His mom rushes towards the noise and saw the face of Nathan. "Mom, it's me." Due to human nature during emergencies and danger, his mom releases a strong punch that Nathan was flown away. "I'm sorry...! Are you okay Nathan?" looking for any wound or injury on Nathan. When Nathan looks at the mirror has a black eye on his right eye. "No way..."

His dad laughing so hard "hahaha...! You look like you wear a monocle." Laughing while he's talking until he couldn't control his laughter, he spits his food and coughing. "Karma..."His idea was more or less success. Nathans hears the call of his best friend while he was eating. Nathan rushes to get dressed, get his bag, had breakfast and lunch. "Where are you going? You didn't even finish your breakfast." Put's down the plate with rice "No worries mom. I'm already full." Ready his things "Nathan... Dude...! Be quick...! We're going to be late at this rate." Look at the time at his phone when he looks up and stares at Nathan, he burst in laughter. "Hahaha...! What happens to your eyes...!" keeps on laughing that his saliva flew all over the face of Nathan. Nathans slowly closes the gate "It is not funny." Pissed of Jette "It is... Look at you... You look like wearing a monocle but super big. Hahaha...!" Nathan got angry. He saw that Jette's tongue was out when he laughs he saw this opportunity to revenge. When laughing again, Nathan targeted the jaws and close it manually, biting the tongue by Jette himself " Ahh...! What the hell did you do that for?"Jette speaking in a muffled voice "Karma hits back... hahaha." Jette got pissed "That's not how karma works...!" Nathan didn't bother to listen to Jette and left him on his own.

This guy named Jette is my best friend. We've been friends since we're a kid. He's full name is Jette V. Bantilan. He's pretty friend enough but if it's a girl that friendly become over-friendly. He has lot of girlfriends. Not girlfriend but Girl Friends. He has a weird personality. When he's beside me, a minute has passed, he was already gone. You want to know where he is. He's already at a girl's side before I knew it. Even though he's like that, he's so kind that he is so approachable.

Jette catches up to Nathan. "You are really mean. You didn't have to leave me like that." Nathan didn't bother to reply to Jette. "You're sulking... hahaha..."

"No... I'm not...' Nathan talk was interrupted when his other best friend put his arm on Nathan soldier. "What's up?" catching his breath, sweating heavily "why are you so sweaty?" Jette can clearly see the outline of the body of Rey. Rey's white uniform became transparent when Jette touches the shirt of Rey it would stick to his hand. "Dude, you need to wipe that sweat of yours, it may be not only my hand would stick." being sarcastic towards Rey. Rey then let go on the hold of Nathan, making Nathan freely. Then Rey saw the blackening of the eye of Nathan and making fun of it. "Hahaha...! What happens to your eye? You look like you have those in past, what do you call it Jette?" Rey puts his arm on the shoulder of Jette and he dragged him, making contact with their body. Jette is making weird faces due to the fact that the sweaty body of Rey touches Jette. "Dude, No contact of the body..." Rey didn't hear Jette and still asking his question a sec ago. "What do you call it?" Jette is now pissed of Rey, rubbing his body to Jette "its monocle, you idiot..." he almost blows of his anger but when he saw again the face of Nathan. He blew to laughter and brought to tears. "Hahaha...! Monocle...!" Both of them laughing at Nathan with the huge opening of the mouth and big noises, they didn't notice that Nathan just left them there. Nathan looks at his phone and saw the danger coming. "Dude, why are so sweaty early in the morning?" gets out from the arm of Rey. "I was chased by a strange dog. I was walking beside when I saw it behind my back running towards me so my instinct tells me to run away too. When I take a look for the second time I know who that dog is. It was the dog that I made a fun a minute ago." Speaking in a narrative voice, Jette smacks the head of Rey "What the hell did you do that for!?" wondering what mistake that he did. "It's was your damn fault all along...! If you didn't make fun of that dog, you won't be in this state." speaking on angry tone.

Rey Q. Silverio, the second-best friend next to Jette. They have been friends since elementary got reunited when the enrolled at the same senior high school. He has a big and tall stature young man. He is more like Nathan but more expressive than him and a lot more honest on himself.

Both of them were arguing until they heard an angry grunt coming from a dog. When both of them look at it, they saw a death that was waving at them. "It's... the dog... That I tell you about... "Rey is speaking with a whispering tone to Jette but with a bit of distance between them. "What!? Don't you mean its that dog?" trying to speak with an angry tone but scared because it may be enraged. The dog still grunting towards them, they can clearly see the saliva dripping from the mouth of the dog. "Nathan? Are you still okay? Don't tell me you already pee your pants...? They didn't hear the reply of Nathan." You must be scared... hahaha... you're a coward..." The dog is now barking at them but they notice that Nathan doesn't still answer. They look at their back, There both shocked that Nathan was gone. They search as their eyes can see but they didn't see Nathan. "Don't tell me he ditches us already?" gulping down their throat and they look back again at the dog. The dog was getting angry by the minute and preparing itself for a chase. "This doesn't look good Jette... We should gotta run..." Rey sweat is already dripping from his face, making his body steady and doesn't do anything suspicious. "Are you stupid...? If you run... the dog will chase you... We're going backward but slow..." Rey nodded to that suggest of Jette and they try the plan. "Make sure you didn't do anything suspicious. Just keep your eye peeled to that dog or else, we're going to make our prayer. "Both of them slowly moving backward until Jette slips on a bottle that he didn't notice. Rey thought that it was the end of the line "oh shit...!" Jette looks back at the dog then he looks at his side. "Rey don't you dare run away..." by the time he looks at his side, Rey was already gone, running away from the dog. "Runaway for your life...!" Jette was disappointed and loses the trust of Rey. Then he looks back at the dog. The dog started to chase them. "Oh my god....!"

Rey who was running ahead, overtaken by Jette with his fastest run he could ever muster to that very moment. As if his body was controlled by Usain bolt. Rey was already wheezing from lack of air on his lungs. When his run is slowing down, he looks at his back again, looking at the fierce dog. Miraculously he was revitalized as if he was possessed by the greatest rival of Usain, Andre de Grasse. Both of them were running toe to toe at each other with the dog at their back, jumping obstacles like a boss and parkour expert. Their running was halted when they cornered by a wall. There were no other ways except to climb the wall but the problem is they can't reach the top without the help of the other. Both of them look at each other. "What are we going to do now?" wheezing from the extreme exhaustion. Jette runs towards the entrance but blocked by the dog that was chasing them. "No way...!" They could feel the smug face of the dog, that they can't outrun him. "I have a plan; listen if you want to live. You need me to help get up that wall. I need support." Rey just agreed on a whim. He helps him climb the wall and a little while he just understands the situation. Rey looks up at the wall but Jette was gone already. "You bastard...! You left me here alone...!" Rey despairs but he doesn't want to give up. The dog is slowly moving towards him with bark and grunt. Rey just moves backward until he hit a wall. "Is this my end, I didn't even have a single girlfriend. If I had a stroke of single luck left with." Rey looks for a way to escape the dog. Until he looks up he saw a hand. It was Jette trying to reach Rey to hold his hand. "You son of a..." Rey immediately grabs the hand and climb the wall. They jump at the other side. Jette was sitting hitting his back with the wall while Rey is lying on the ground. They both shake hands as their newly established brotherhood. They both laugh at the situation and they fell something was left. "Where... is... Nathan...?" Wheeze from running. "Yeah... where the hell is he...? He ditches us before the dog came." Catching his breath and then Nathan was slowly passing their front while his hand covers his face. "Hey!" Nathan just gives off a sound of annoyance and walks on by himself. "Hey, where are you going?" Rey stands up and catches up to Nathan. Jette follows also. "Bro, where were you when we are chased by the dog?" Rey looks at the smartphone of Nathan and saw the footage that they're being chased." Jette, Nathan had footage of us chased by the dog." Jette was shocked "are you sure about that?"Look at also at Nathan's smartphone. "Isn't this come from the CCTV? Look at the video quality." Rey confirms it at his second look. "Yeah, it does. Did you hack the CCTV?" curious about how Nathan did it.

Nathan explains how he did it "nowadays, every gadget is now connected to the internet, from smartphone to security devices. It can easily be breached but it's not an easy task. I've bypassed the security a long time ago." Jette is listening carefully. "Doesn't it mean, you had a visual on every CCTV. Don't tell me you use it to dodge me and Rey with the dog." Got pissed off and yet he still amazed by Nathan's skill. "Look at this... it's the dog... "Jette was intrigued and look at it also. "It is the dog, it's going so fast. Isn't it the corner that we came from?" they still watching and then look at the corner that he came from and look again at the smartphone of Nathan. Both of them are sweating heavily. "Rey, give the phone back to Nathan. I had a plan..." whispering tone and he then looks at Nathan. Nathan didn't think suspicious about them. Then he looks back at Rey."Nathan ditches us a minute ago; we're going to have our revenge." Rey just loves the brilliant idea that Jette has and nodded without a second thought. Rey slowly gives to Nathan then rushes while Jette was behind. When Nathan saw the dog at a corner and is much identical to the one that they turn earlier. Nathan didn't have to bother to look at the dog at his front, he then runs towards the direction of Jette and Rey. "You bastards...! I will get my revenge for this."

The three of them run as they could, away from the fierce dog. Nathan looks at his phone, and think of a way to escape the chase. With the help of the breached CCTV, he could think an escape route. "hahaha...! This is my revenge, Nathan...!" both of them laughing while running but when both of them look at their back Nathan is gone again. The only thing on their back is the dog that was chasing them. "Curse you...!" Both of them shouted at the tip of their lung, cursing Nathan. Nathan safely arrives at their school. "achoo...! The two of them must be talking about me. Hahaha...!" Nathan laughing likes a devil. "What's that student doing there...?" People talking about him in the background." Nathan became embarrassed and walk going to his room.

The teacher enters their room and started the class. "Class, you will be having career guidance this afternoon." The teacher still explains about the activity until Jette and Rey disrupted the class. They jump when they enter. "Safe...!" both of them shouting, then making brotherhood handshake while both them stare at each other. Their brotherhood became sturdier, eyes becoming shiny that comes from a hard adventure. Their clothes are dirty and full of tatters. "Ah hmm... Mr. Bantilan and Silverio... Why are you late?" The teacher was beside them, talking in a domineering voice. "Mr. Badayos..." Jette is stuttering in words. Rey was sneaking away but grabbed by Mr. Badayos. "Okay class, don't you dare make an absence or else you're going to be the same with these two." Jette was trying to get away but was catch up by Mr. Badayos. "No...!" Jette and Rey scream in the hallway, making a ruckus. "Shut up...!" Get smack by the head by Mr. Badayos.

The bell rang for lunch and Jette and Rey just got out from the disciplinary office. They look like they have work for the whole two nights without getting a wink. Nathan just put out his lunch. "Let's have lunch...?" Nathan making a beat using his lunch box and his spoon then he sits. "Aren't you hungry? For all those running?" started eating his lunch and having a time of his life. Jette just smiles while Rey is getting his lunch box. "It's not my damn fault... It's Rey...!" Jette points to Rey. "Huh...?" didn't hear what Jette say, busy eating his lunch. Jette lost his interest in arguing he then get his lunch. "I heard that there would be an activity this afternoon. What was it Rey?" after speaking, he eats his lunch. "Ah..." trying to figure out what was the activity but Nathan interrupted. "Career guidance activity." Nathan eating in silence when his classmate hit his chair and the food was catapulted towards Nathan. "What was that for?" stand up and getting rid of the food on his face. Jette drags him down back to his sit. "Don't you know who that is...? It's colleen D. Avance, is the daughter of Mr. David E. Donaire, the rival of the Real World Company." Jette helps Nathan clean his face.

"I'm sorry on behalf of my friend, can you forgive him?" Colleen just left and ignores Jette. She stops and look at her phone and made a sorrowed and a bit scared face and Nathan saw that. "Wow... That girl is really something..." Jette was amazed at how Colleen act, Nathan got pissed off "why did you that to me, Jette? She is supposed to apologize to me... not you to her..!"

Colleen S. Avance, daughter and an heir to the A company, the rival of Real World Company. Many people said that she is an ice queen due to the fact that she gave off a vibe that she's not the one to mess with. Even though she is like that, many still confess their love to her. Making her the campus idol

"Okay... okay... chill bro. I've already done it. You don't need to sweat it..." Jette calming down Nathan, Rey is just busy eating his food.

"Yeah...." Rey is back to his eating. Jette changing the mood and topic "So, have you guys decided? I heard that a computer engineer now is a high paying job. Many of the parents now want their kids to pursue that kind of job. I don't know if I will pursue it for myself. What about you Rey?" Rey stops his eating for a while and think. "Maybe I think I.T." Jette laughs at Rey's decision "isn't it just the same with a computer engineer." Rey got pissed off from the laugh of Jette. "What about you...? I bet becoming a gigolo is your dream job." Nathan laughs at the sarcastic joke of Rey. "hahaha...! A gigolo..." Jette was curious about Rey to speak of." Gigolo...? Where the hell did you get that idea...?" Rey and Nathan look at each other and both of them look at Jette. "You didn't even know that you are one of the rumors of the school, the seaman." Jette couldn't believe it "Yeah, whenever we were distracted for a second, you are already beside a girl." Jette just laughs it off by the assumptions of Rey and Nathan. "You don't understand. I'm the friend of all women...!" Rey and Nathan lose hope when they heard the answer of Jette. "by the way Nathan, I've already know what your plan for the college. There's no need..."

The bell rang and an announcement was made. "1:30 in this afternoon, we will begin the activity." They've already finished eating their lunch. The first one who we're called is Nathan. "Take your seat, Mr. Donaire. So are you ready to talk about your future...?" Nathan just nodded the teacher. They talk for quite a while about the several courses that the college has to offer. "So, Mr. Donaire, Have you chosen your preferred career or job...?" Nathan was direct to the point. "Computer engineer..." The teacher let out a big sigh. "What's wrong with my decision sir...?" The teacher was shocked by the question of Nathan. "There's no problem... I just relieve that you already decided. Not with the fact that you are the only one who keeps our checked and repairing the technological tool here in this school." Nathan was relieved by the answer of his teacher. "No need to worry sir, if you're asking for my examination? I've already got this in the bag." The teacher dismissed Nathan and the counseling still continues.

The sun was about to set down the horizon. The activity of the school bid its farewell. Both of the friends said there goodbye. Nathan was thinking about his old laptop. "Maybe I should buy a computer; I really need it when I will become a freshman."

When they're walking down the streets they saw a newly opened store for 2nd hand gadgets. They take a look at it. "Wow... there's a lot of stuff here." Jette looking and touching the stuff that the store sells. When they were window shopping, Nathan saw an old model of a computer but it was very familiar. That he thought that it's not the first time he saw that computer. "Isn't this is the computer that was placed at the achievement hall of the Real World Company. It was pretty often featured by the advertisement of a new product of the company "Nathan couldn't believe what he heard from Jette. He immediately looks at his smartphone searching for the image of said computer. It was an amazing and freakish discovery. "Why would there be a certain copy of the computer? They said on the TV that it was the only remaining model of that computer and it's at RW (Real World) company. Isn't this amazing discovery...!" Jette take pictures of it and posted it on his social media account. Nathan was excited looking at the parts of the computer but even the parts we're identically the same, same cut and design. The shop keeper enters the shop. "Sir, how much is this computer?" The shop keeper looks at the computer and looks at his list of items. "It's only 5000 pesos kid." Nathan was shocked again at the price. "Have you even bothered to appraise this computer? It's the same computer at the RW company!?" Nathan couldn't hold his excitement. "I've already tried it kid but the appraiser said that it was just a copy. The computer is already dead. I can't even turn it let alone sell it. And I also got it from a certain lady a long time ago for free. I can't even remember her face but she's quite a beauty. It was weird but she was crying when she let go of this computer." The shop keeper is trying to remember the face of the lady. "I will buy this..." Nathan just hands out his money and paid off the computer. "The shop keeper just accepted it. The item was basically junk and yet there is a stupid customer who would dare to buy it. "It's all your kid. I'll put it on the box but I can't deliver it yet to your home because my truck is still delivering stuff right now." Nathan didn't bother a second thought. "I will carry it..."

Jette is carrying a heavy box "why the hell I have to carry this god damn computer of yours!?" Jette walking slowly due to the heaviness of the computer "Just deal with it... we're about to reach my house probably..." Nathan couldn't properly speak due to concentration and mustering his strength to carry the computer. "I can't handle it any longer." Jette puts down the computer and shocked how many distances they travel from the shop. "It would take hours to get to your house, judging the distance we carried for a couple of minutes. We would arrive there tomorrow. Let's ride a tricycle, it's more convenient." Jette looking for a ride beside the street "No... I don't have any more money If I try to pay it for the ride... I will be broke right now." Nathan becoming stubborn, walking slowly, step by step likes a turtle. Jette looks at Nathan "yeah... right..." Jette just sits beside the road looking at Nathan's progress. Nathan stops for a while. "Hah...! You call that walking...?" Nathan refuses to give up, mustering his strength, making his cheeks bulge.

*motorcycle roar as the engine starts and steadily moving away from them*

"You... bastard... Why did you make me ride the motorcycle...?" grab the collar of Jette making him suspended in the air. "Chill down bro..." Nathan's mom sees that and throws a slipper right at the face Nathan. "What the heck are you doing to Jette!?" Nathan's mom rushes towards Jette, wondering if Nathan makes an injury. "Are you okay...?" Nathan's mom didn't see anything serious, then she looks, giving a stare of death. "Mom... it's not what you think... argh...!"

After that commotion Jette says farewell to Nathan, patting his punched face. "you didn't have to do that?" Speaking on a small tone but his mom almost heard all he said: "what did you say?" giving again a deadly stare "ah... Nothing... I will bring this computer to my room mom."

"Computer...? Where did you get money to buy a computer?" His mom suspecting something suspicious "look at this stuff... It's all covered with dust and cobwebs... Don't tell me you just waste your money..." slide her finger to the computer. "It's guaranteed... to function properly... May I go now?" carries his stuff; his mom didn't ask the question anymore "you're good to go now. But if I notice that that computer won't work, you'll get this..." His mom clenching her fist "hahaha..." Nathan just made a fake laugh.

Carrying the stuff unto his room "phew... my back hurts... I sound like a grandpa." Nathan started assembling the computer and tries to turn it on but didn't even do a thing. "What's wrong with this thing? Maybe the shop keeper was saying the truth. Damn...! I'm so stupid, wasting my money like that... No, I will make this work." Nathan looks at the inside of the System unit to look if there any problem. "What happened here? It looks like it desperately destroyed the computer. Good thing the hard disk is still intact and didn't have damage."Nathan begins repairing the computer.

Months, Weeks, days, hour, a minute had passed. There were many attempts of Nathan trying to turn the computer. It may lead to sparking off the hardware, to make his house blackout, and making his life endangered from his mom who is. Making expenditure to many books about the computer, his knowledge about the computer becomes massive, and tons of hardware to fix the computer and one faithful day, at night, the computer turned on. "Yes! I did it... I successfully repaired the computer. How many times did I lose hope?" Nathan jumping around his house, making a ruckus upstairs "Nathan, turn it down a little bit. Don't make me come up there." Nathan hears his mom shouting. "Oh, shit... better make it quiet before the demon gets angry."

"Welcome, User." A female robotic voice was heard, Nathan was amazed by it. "There's a Brain Code interface on this computer. I think this is before Mr. Gatdula published the brain code and it's still on the beta version of A.I." Computer microphone was turn on all the time and the interface heard it." I've assumed you are quite young. Judging from this. Would you like to register a user?" Nathan was shocked and couldn't hold his excitement. "So I'm the first user. it's impossible, this model of computer was the epitome of the computer for that year ago." The interface hears it "You seem to have a bit of problem, I will look for the user for the past years. There's none but there still a remnant of the code that it was destroyed. I perhaps assume that I got broke and corrupted my memory file. Would you still like to register as the new user?" the interface asking for permission to Nathan. " Yes...!" voice with excitement

Nathan begins exploring the computer and saw some files. "Wow, it's almost empty. "He saw folder which entitled Dave's Code. "What the hell is this?"

"Analyzing the folder, there's no history about this program that was installed on this computer. Would you like a deeper analysis of the program?" Interface curious female robotic voice asking for the user confirmation. "No need. This is awesome. I never thought that I could acquire an A.I Interfaced computer." Nathan is confused at the Interface just said. "This folder is a program?"

Nathan was curious about what inside the folder but when he opens it he saw a bunch of notepads and programs but with his knowledge about computers, he immediately knows it. "Isn't this a brain code?" Nathan clicks one of the codes and tries to confirm it. "It really is but something is missing. It looks like it got corrupted. Let me try to fix maybe it has something mysterious. "Nathan gets busy fixing the code. His two best friends arrive."Ayo...! Mrs. Donaire....?" Nathan's mom heard and look who was calling her. "Come in, come in both of you. Nathan is upstairs." Both of them enter the house and taking off their slippers. "Why are you here? Did Nathan have plans with you?" His mom welcoming them to their house "no, not at all..." Jette and Rey being humble to Nathan's mom

"If both of you are looking for Nathan, Just go to his room upstairs." Both of them walk and went to Nathan's room. They knocked it but Nathan didn't answer. "This is the last code I could fix, other parts is mainly the Brain's code memory corrupted. It may be destroyed when the last owner trashed the computer." Nathan taps the enter key and runs the program.

Jette tries to twist the doorknob but it was unlocked. They entered the room until a shockwave was emitted from the computer and made the entire town blackout. The three of them were blown away.
