Chapter 3: new class and a new friend

Ten minutes is all it took for Owen to get to the front of the line to get his schedule. When he picked up his schedule he scanned the sheet for information on each of his classes. On his schedule he had six class periods. For his first period he had science, which is then followed by spiritual studies. After that is magic training, followed by language. After that is art. Then, there on the very bottom of the page read 'Spiritual Arts, teacher: Martha Shores.'

"What?!" He said in confusion. "Why do I have my own mother?!"

"What is wrong with your own mother," said Owens mother who appeared behind him. He turned around and gave her a dirty look.

"What the hell is the meaning of this," he said as he pointed to the page where it says his mother's name.

"Oh, will you calm down it is not that bad, and besides its not like we can get a different teacher for you either. I am the only Spiritual arts teacher at this high school, so you are going to have to deal with it," she said as she returned a dirty look back at him.

"Okay mom," Owen said as he sighed. "It's almost first period anyways." He turned and then started heading to his first period.

"Okay goodbye sweetie, have a nice day," she said with a big smile. She waved goodbye as he was leaving. When she saw him turn the corner at the end of the hallway she then started making her way to her class.

Owen wasted no time getting there, he didn't want to miss out. He was home schooled his whole life, and this was the first time ever he can be in a classroom with other kids his age.

When he got to the door he pushed down on the handle and open the door. He looked around and scanned the room for an available seat. Then he found it, a vacant seat by the window of the classroom so he can look down into the the courtyard where there was very few people. He noticed the statue in the center of everything. It was of a man (obviously very revered) holding up his sword in a heroic stance. He flushed out the sounds of chitter-chatter in the room and focused on the statue. As he gazes at it, he wonders who it is of and what is the story behind this statue. He always dreamed of being a hero, just like the people who found the city. He daydreamed about how it would feel, saving everyone from a great threat.

All of a sudden, someone slams down a book on the desk next to him. He jumps and looks over to see a girl with red hair staring at him with an angry expression.

"Wow, how rude," she said. " You try to friendly and ask someone for their name and they straight up ignore you."

"I'm sorry, I didn't notice you were talking to me," Owen said.

The girl then folded her arms. "Well are you gonna give me your name or not," she said in an angry tone.

"I-its Owen. I'm sorry, I'm sorta new to this whole school thing..." Owen said.

"Owen, huh?" She said in a more calming voice. "My name is Emily, its nice to meet you." She put out her hand for him to shake. He slowly reached over and grabbed her hand to shake it.

"I'm sorry," she said. "I hope I didn't scare you...I'm new to this whole thing as well," Emily said as she giggled.

"No it's fine," he said as he tried calming himself down. Owen then noticed that she dressed in all red.

"You really like the color red, don't you," he said.

"Yeah, it's my favorite color, I always wear red. It's weird, I know but I like it. I guess, I really want to be a fire blade, you know," Emily said.

"A fire blade? What is that?" Owen asked.

"Don't tell me you don't know what a blade is," Emily said.

"Don't blades run the government?" Owen said.

"Well that's half of it, blades are really people that are born to help deal with spirits," said Emily.

"You mean when spirits get all crazy?" Owen asked

"Yes, exactly..." Emily trailed off as she saw the science teacher come into the room.

"Meet me after class," Emily whispered to Owen and gave him a smile.

Owen then nodded and smiled.
