The System (2)

It took great pains to calm down, but his anger didn't subside. He knew he couldn't do anything to the orb just yet, but it was motivating him to destroy it. He swallowed his anger, but the number of reasons he should enslave this orb increased by one.

"You said the cultivator had to die for their energy to be absorbed. What happens to those who don't and they reach my level? Wouldn't my work be wasted?" He asked. Anger and disrespect clearly evident in his voice.

<>

The Doctor couldn't help but smile at that statement. Even though he was angry with the orb, he agreed with its methods. For starters, it validated and justified his work showing that everything he did was for reason. Second, the beings that get The System wouldn't use it against him. He was very satisfied knowing that and one of his worries was settled. Even his anger couldn't help but have a significant decline.

"Good. Good. So, I can just go around killing all those cultivators and absorb their energy without worry. Hahaha." He said to himself as his voice trailed off into creepy laughter that would give anyone chills.

'It can anger me to death but its methods are similar to mine. Maybe friendship is possible with this orb.'

<>

"WHA… What do you mean forbidden? You just said I could!!!" He asked with his anger rising again. He was truly not a fan of the emotional roller-coaster. It was getting exhausting and he could feel his energy expenditure increasing and his control waning.

<> A flat response.

The Doctor sent his consciousness out of the white space and roared to the heavens. He was truly angry but even worse was that he couldn't do anything about it.

Moments after calming down he went back into the white space but lost all cordiality.

He looked at the white space as though he was looking at his worst enemy. It then hit him that he didn't like how there was just a white space with nothing in particular. If there was, at least, a projection he could get mad at it or maybe even strike it just for the sake. At the moment, he looked like an idiot getting angry at the air.

"I can't harm them but you can! I get that! Back to The System. Tell me how it helps with law comprehension." It was an open attempt at changing the topic.

<>

'I am truly angry at this thing but I can't help admit its ability is awe-inspiring. For it to absorb another's law comprehension, it must be incredibly versed in both laws and souls. I am going to have a harder time fighting it than I thought.' Thought The Doctor as he digested the information he received.

'But it is truly diabolical. It makes it sound like those cultivators will have the choice in which law they decide to learn but at the end of the day, they are playing into its hands. I can't help but think I have been played as well. Even worse is that neither myself nor those cultivators can complain. The benefits are just that great. *Sigh* At least I get some level of protection with my authority but they are more like cattle being herded only to end up as an evening meal. Whatever, I am no saint to be pitying them when I'll be getting the benefits.'
