Today's Lesson: Matthew 12:1-21

* Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath

1. In what seems to be a very bold act against the Pharisees, Jesus declared Himself as the Lord of the Sabbath. [12:8]

Answer: Instead of offering sacrifice to Jesus, we should be merciful to others. We should not condemn the disciple of Jesus.

a. What does Jesus identity as the Lord of the Sabbath imply?

Answer: Because he is the Son of God. And he can heal people on Sabbath.

b. Who is greater, the Law or the Sabbath? Explain/ defend your answer.

Answer: God is greater than the Law and Sabbath.

c. Why do you think we as Christian gather on the Lord s day [Sunday] for communal worship and not on the Sabbath?

Answer: Because we are not Judaism. Sunday is communal day. Sabbath is the day of Jews.

2. "If you had known what these words mean, I desire mercy, not sacrifice , you would not have condemned the innocent." - in other words, the Pharisees were wrong in their inter-pretation.

a. What do you think is the right interpretation of this quote?

Answer: God wants us to be merciful to others and be merciful to the innocents.

b. What do you think will be the best way for us to determine if we are correct by interpreting and applying what God requires of us?

Answer: We should take note of our attitude, behavior and actions.

1. Verse 15 says a large crowd followed Jesus and He healed all who were ill/sick.

a. What is this verse saying about Jesus in your opinion.

Answer: If we have ears, we should pay attention. Active listening.

2. Verse 18-21 was a quotation from Isaiah 42:1-4. What is the prophecy saying about Jesus? List down your answer.

Answer: Jesus is the chosen servant. He will judge all nations. All nation place their hope in Him.
