Conspiracy

Shock appeared on Kalpow's face but he quickly gained his composure back. "Who?"

Golden Sovereign gave a difficult look. "This… I have no idea. The only thing I can say is that the assassin prowess is no less than mine."

"How many times has he tried assassinating?"

"Seven."

"Time and days?"

"For the last two weeks, every alternate days at around 10:30 pm."

One thing Kalpow found too much of a coincidence is that the whole Divinity Realm has the time laws as Earth. There are 12 months with 365 days.

Kalpow squinted his eyes and didn't speak but Golden Sovereign could make out his words. "Even though I'm aware of the time, the only thing I can do is protect this life of mine… Some subordinates of mine has also died and my relatives were also targeted a few days ago. If this continues on…" Speaking till here, he gritted his teeth.

Kalpow patted him on his shoulders. However, he neither consoled him nor speak any words words of encouragement. "Do you believe that I can help you?"

Golden Sovereign looked at him and shook his head. "The assassin is very sly and meticulous with skills. With you present beside, I doubt he would even try to assassinate me. That will instead backfire. It's extremely probable that after being unable to kill me, he will set his sights on my close ones."

Kalpow smiled mysteriously seemingly expected his worries but paid it no need. "Do you think that the assassin will continue this trend? If so, then on what basis?"

"Yes, because he is a Sky Devil."

Kalpow expected this answer. Sky Devils Corps, in simple words, is an organization which recruits talented assassins. It is also the number one assassin agency. It's leaders are very secretive and mysterious. However, they have a very specific cliché.

Before assassinating someone, they generously give away the time and date they are going to assassinate. This policy has been followed down from six billion years! And in these six billion years, the number of times they failed their mission is just a mere three times!!

This was also the reason why the Golden Sovereign is so frustrated.

"So… well, according to the trend, the assassin must come tomorrow… hum. Wait… how many days did you say it has been since the first attempt?"

Golden Sovereign, although perplexed by the question, still answered. "Fifteen."

Kalpow unknowingly smiled. "I do have a solution in mind but let's not think about things like this for a minute. I can see that your complexion is not good. So… well, changing topics, may I ask the purpose of your visit to the palace?"

Golden Sovereign was again taken aback by the sudden change in topic but followed Kalpow. "It seems that I will be receiving an Elite Honor symbol."

Kalpow's interest was suddenly piqued. "Oh? For what? Looks like Brother Golden didn't laze around these years like I did."

Golden Sovereign shook his head. "I am merely lucky. In the Zero Devil War, I managed to strike down a rare demon king. Killing down the demon, I noticed that it's blood was peculiar. Back then, I was extremely tired and decided to rest for a while sitting next to demon corpse. Unknowingly, my injuries and fatigue healed within a minute without even needing any pills."

"After the war, I gave the corpse to several Grand Alchemists and instructed them to research on it. A few months earlier, with the blood of the demon, they created a medicine pill above God rank!"

Kalpow was quite surprised. From the memories of the 'real' Kalpow, he found out that the best medicine pill was around the rank of Quasi-God. He chit-chatted a bit more with Golden Sovereign then came to the main topic in hand.

"Brother Golden, regarding the matter of assassin, do you believe that I have a way to deal with it?"

Golden Sovereign pondered for a while, then shook his head. "No. Brother Kalpow, it's not that I don't believe in your strength. If the assassin wanted to kill you, it is extremely likely that he would be killed instead. But if it wants to kill me while targeting on my relatives, I believe that even you would be powerless. Not to mention, myself."

Kalpow simply smiled at his explanations. 'I suppose my time is limited… Let's quickly get this over.'

Sighing, Kalpow got up and took a black one metre staff. "If you don't reveal yourself within three seconds, you know what this staff can do, right?"

Although Golden Sovereign was absolutely dumbstruck and puzzled by Kalpow's words, he didn't interrupt.

"T-this…" A blue-robed guy with a black mask on his face suddenly came out out of nowhere. Golden Sovereign first underwent massive shock, then his eyes went red as he stared at the man wanting to tear him apart.

In the current situation, the blue-robed guy couldn't even bother to spare a look at his 'target'. He opened his mouth but words got caught in his throat. After a while, he calmed his nerves, stared deeply at Kalpow and nodded slightly.

Few seconds passed by, there were no movements from either side. Instead of words, only glances were exchanged. Suddenly, the blue-robed assassin fell down with a thump.

Before Golden Sovereign could ask or speak anything, Kalpow replied. "He committed suicide by destroying his own soul."

"Why…?" Golden Sovereign didn't know which comment should he make first.

"If I tell you the reason, I'd be forced to get involved in politics." Kalpow calmly said. Golden Sovereign, although interested, didn't pursue the matter further. He silently watched over as Kalpow examined the assassin's body and kept his eyes glued at the mask.

Kalpow, however, had no intentions of taking off the black mask as he silently burnt the corpse. His actions stupefied Golden Sovereign completely. "B-brother… about his identity…?"

Kalpow smiled. "Are you sure you want to know?" Golden sovereign forced a smile. "Ignorance is bliss! Anyways brother, do you want to move to the palace right away or maybe, take a rest and move out tomorrow?"

"I have some urgency. Is it a problem?"

"Haha! What are you saying? Of course, I'll follow your wishes." Golden Sovereign's mood was great currently.

…

Sitting in one corner of the huge spirit ship, Kalpow took out his small diary. "Now then, today's matters were somewhat troublesome. Hopefully, I resolved it… but I must say, I never expected the matters to be this twisted. Thankfully, I now have a grasp of the situation even though the cause is unknown. Ah… I can't get carried away like this…"

"Getting to the main point, hm… the assassin's identity… no, that's not a good start. Let's start with the Sky Devil Corps. Due to some matters, the 'real' Kalpow knows some secrets of the organization. One of the secrets being - the target must be killed within a span of two weeks. In history, there has never been a case where the assassins of the organization took more than two weeks to complete the mission. In other words, the assassin that came to kill Golden Sovereign wasn't a Sky Devil. He came in disguise"

"But then, is Golden Sovereign that naïve to stubbornly think that the assassin is a Sky Devil despite finding it confusing and absurd that an assassin who can overpower the other party would retreat and come another day and again do the same thing? Surely not! Golden Sovereign had a quite 'solid evidence' that the assassin is a Sky Devil. That is, the badge the assassin wore. It is impossible to fake the aura coming from the badge."

"Skipping a few steps, it can be concluded that the assassin is someone who collaborated with Sky Devil Corps. As for the identity of the assassin, he is a Prince Consort of Empress Divinity. Surprise? He was someone the 'real' Kalpow never had any contacts with but knew about him. Before coming to the cause, let's talk about whether he had the 'abilities' to collaborate with the Sky Devil Corps. He frankly doesn't even though he is God-level figure in the entire heavens."

"Now then, a serious question: why didn't the assassin kill Golden Sovereign even though it had the capabilities to do so. The reason is obviously because although the Sky Devil Corps collaborated with the assassin, they don't want this matter to be written in their records. This is the reason why the assassin didn't kill Golden Sovereign in two weeks."

"Now then, who collaborated with the Sky Devil Corps? The most likely suspect is Empress Divinity. According to the memories, she represented the "Alliance of Races" in the Zero Devil War and convinced the Sky Devil Corps to help in the war. Hm… this concludes my grasp on today's matters."

"Although my arguments sounded reasonable, there are still plenty of loopholes but if I take even those loopholes in consideration, I won't get anywhere. Instead of calling it an argument, it's rather an assumption."

Sighing, he added. "Whatever… politics is none of my business. As long as I can get to Earth and see the two of them well, everything's cute. I remember… isn't today supposed to be parent's meet!? Both of them are surely going to be angry… Ah… focus! focus! I can't get carried away like this. I still have to make a more detailed future plan!"

As he was speaking inwardly, a voice reached his ears. "Uncle Kalpow, do you to eat something?" It was Katy.

She was unexpectedly Golden Sovereign's nephew and the 'real' Kalpow even met her several times when she was a kid. After figuring out that the mysterious Prince Consort is Uncle Kalpow whom she admired, she changed her way of address.

"Ah! No, thank you. Are we there yet?"

Katy sweetly smiled and answered, "We'll be there in a few hours. By that time, it will be night. Do you want me to reserve an inn?"

"Then I have to trouble nephew." Katy shook her head and departed.

As soon as she went, Kalpow again went into inner-speaking mode. "I have a few hours… hehe… what I forgot to mention is my harvest by the assassin's suicide." Kalpow mysteriously took out a black thin book from the spatial ring.

"What is this? Hehe… this is a legendary book that contains several God-ranked assassin skills. But isn't the matter too suspicious? I remember thinking about wanting to steal the Soul Orb and then, after a few hours, I unexpectedly found a way to do it? Also, why would the assassin carry such a legendary book when he is on a dangerous mission?"

"I remember reading in novels that whenever a MC kills some random villain, most of the time he would stumble upon rare skills. Perhaps, I'm just overthinking things and people here are just that stupid. Even so… the matter is too suspicious. Hm… I must take some precautions before I learn the skills."

Thinking so, Kalpow called out a servant near him. "I remember that this spirit ship has a small prison in it. Tell me the directions."

Hearing him, the servant respectfully gave the directions and departed. Kalpow arrived at the prison and ordered one of the prison guards to lead the way.

"I have an experiment to carry out. Can you give a prisoner to me?" Although the wording sounded weird, the prison guard didn't get shocked. After all, this kind of matters were not news to him.

The guard took out a chained prisoner, led him and Kalpow to an empty room and departed. The guard didn't bind the prisoner in the room because it was simply not necessary. The prisoner too didn't have any foolish thoughts of running away.

Kalpow looked at the prisoner and tossed out a green seed. "I want you to learn the skills from this book. Although your cultivation and talent is below mediocre, this seed will increase both of them by several folds for a short period of time."

The prisoner expressionlessly ate it and began learning the first skill from the book.

An hour passed by. The prisoner was still comprehending the first skill of the book with a diligent look.

"How much have you comprehended?" Kalpow asked.

The prisoner nonchalantly replied, "80 percent."

Kalpow pondered for a while. "In that case, come e here." The prisoner did as he was told and Kalpow started inspecting the prisoner's body. 'Every thing's alright but what's up with this weird seal-like qi?'

'Let's try breaking it…' Kalpow used some incantations. 'Eh…? That's a bit weird. Why are there seals connected directly with his soul? Hm… let's find out the age of the seals…'
