The night was young. The chilly wind passed by Aizhe and she shivered. Fall was about to come to an end, and she had already started to feel the weather that was transforming rapidly over the days.
Pulling her black oversized coat upwards, she tried to bring about some warmth to herself. She had a short slip midi dress and that wasn't providing any help to her legs. She looked around and noticed that cars weren't parked here at all. They were all outside of the gate.
She had to walk a lot just to reach the taxi stand.
Walking on the long side streets of the Ah Manor, she started to wonder how beautiful the nearby fountains and nature looked like even at the night.
The more she walked, the more she realized how long it was. It didn't seem to reach an end!
'Ahh, must have cost a lot,' Half of the streets was as long as a highway. Even if the whole Hongcai village were to be measured over and over, it wouldn't surpass the mass over here.
She wondered how much Ah Si must have spent to build such a magnificent looking manor. It looked remarkable and difficult to interpret it into words.
Thinking back to it, the Ah's had five mansions and each of them was equally distributed to the sons of the Ah's. They had a distinguished reputation, thus their houses were the walls that separated them from the outside's hassle. They made sure to make it as homely as possible. The Shênshēn villa was a huge matter in A City. No houses could ever compare to its sophisticating, yet imperialist look. But, Aizhe couldn't figure out why Si had his own house. Why didn't he live with his parents just like his cousins?
Ai sister had told her all this. She even told her that the Ah family were really distinguished and they were amongst the top five families in the whole A City. No one could compare to them. She also said that they were a merry and happy family when compared to others.
It was really astonishing truth to Aizhe at first because no matter how much she thought back to it, she had always thought of them like her. Their manners, politeness, and open-minded personality were just like herself. They never made her realize that these people were royalties who could clear anyone from the whole city if they wished to.
Reckoning over that, Aizhe smiled subconsciously.
Looking up, she noticed that the moon was brightly lit that day. It was just like the light that shined brightly in her heart. Hope and love were the new emotions she had grasped really well from the hassle and sorrow of the past two months.
The moon wasn't the only quirk that made the night look so young and attractive. The stars were twinkling about and it created a pleasant joy on her face.
Steps and more steps, Aizhe walked along the steeply road as she kept on looking at her surrounding, wondering how the situation might be at the Li's.
Her uncle had apparently gained consciousness for a split second but the next moment he had gone back to the same state. For a person who has paralysis, it was stunning news. It was incredible to hear that and maybe that's why she was feeling so pleasant today.
Everything was going according to how she wanted her life to be. A good friend, a good family, and a good partner she could always look on to.
Just as she was enjoying the warmth of this lone time, Aizhe heard sudden noises from behind her. It felt like the rustling noises that the trees made when they brushed against each other. The sound was low yet her senses were wide alert. The street was also quiet which made her hear it clearly.
It was beginning to creep her out, but nonetheless she thought that it might just be the crickets in the bushes.
Aizhe knew they were a lot of crickets and grasshoppers in the bushes during this season.
However when she walked, she heard the same noises but this time it was louder and clearer.
Feeling something was amiss, she turned around and she stood there wondering what was going on.
Finding it alarming, she resumed her walking. Hastening her steps, she pulled her bag towards her chest for protection.
Remembering something, her eyes suddenly widened and she felt terrified. She remembered granny telling her that crickets were once used as "watchdogs." When danger approached, the cricket's chirping would stop too. Whenever she heard the crickets in her hometown, she used to so be mesmerized by their chirpy noises that could be so helpful.
But right now, that sound was what made Aizhe wary of her surroundings more and she immediately sprinted towards the road.
The night that was breezy and beautiful earlier but it suddenly became a threatening night for her.
She could hear steps behind her and it was beginning to creep her out. She felt her chest walls tightening and without her knowing sweat was all over her body. She ran as fast as she could.
From time to time, she would look back and see the group of burly men that were running insanely towards her. Their steps were heavy and it brought fear in Aizhe's heart. Her panic started, making her feel headaches and her vision to become a bit unfocused.
When she thought back of the burly men, something dwell on her and she turned back to look at the burly men carefully.
'They...why..are they?' Aizhe looked behind her carefully as she wondered.
These men looked so familiar. Their appearance seemed to have woken something up in her and her eyes suddenly widened. She remembered that night in the village which was so terrifying.
She hastened her steps as she ran like never before.
Looking around at the corner, she realized that she was finally out of the Ah Manor's area. She was on the other side of the road. Peoples, cars, and the city's blinking light were now visible. She ran as fast as she could but Aizhe was a girl and she knew that her leg would give out sooner or later.
A bad hunch cast over Aizhe's heart. She turned to the side to escape from their view but she ended up in an alley filled with darkness and no one.
She suddenly came to realize that she had made a huge mistake. She should have just run back to the mansion. Wiping her face with her trembling hands, she thought of a solution.
Remembering that she still had help in her bag, she took out her phone and while running, she dialed anyone her hands tapped on.
The phone rang for a while and finally a deep tone reached her ears. It sent hope in the panicked Aizhe.
"Aizhe, where are--," his tone was filled with dread but before he could complete his sentence Aizhe's panicked one reached him. "Si, help, there are a group of men following after me...ahh,"
Like a thunder that stricken him, Ah Si stood fixated on his foot all of a sudden. His face was oozing fear to one's eyes and he heard the phone that beeped next to his ears.
His deep eyes looked like they would strike someone with lightning. His hands clenched in and out, making a cracking noise.
Just like he thought earlier, something was surely amiss. He knew the Li's weren't trustworthy at all.
Turning around, he noticed Lu Jung that was in a hurry. His breathing was incoherent and he seemed like he wanted to say something urgent.
"What did you find out?," Ah Si asked him. Expecting his answers to be what he thought earlier, he turned around looking for his dark blue sweater.
Finding it near the sofa, he put it on and turned around to look at the panic-stricken guy. His gaze fixated on Lu Jung's face and the miserable man immediately blurted everything out.
"Brother, your assumptions were correct, they seem to be after Aizhe. It seems like they are planning to take her in their base. We sent our best teams after them and as per your request Fiaso was also sent to look if she was in any harm."
That was all it took him to hear. In no second, he was out of the room towards the main gate. His hands were filled with his own sweat and somehow the same fear of that evening filled him.
'That evening's misfortune shouldn't repeat again.'
---
Aizhe's feet slipped and she laid on the wet road with her hair everywhere. The burly men soon caught up with her and they held her to make sure she doesn't escape from them. With a black mask on their face, Aizhe couldn't find out who they were at all.
