Daichi

The cave we sat in was cold. Freezing. I heard Alex get up and leave the cave. He was moving a lot of things outside. When he came back, he made even more noise on the floor.

Soon I figured out what he was doing. I felt the warmth of a fire wash over me. He created a fire. Now the cave was warm, and I guess brighter as well.

Then I smelled him. I smelled and heard Sukino approaching the cave. Once I could hear Sukino heavy steps enter the cave, I heard Alex take in a sharp, deep breath.

Alex choked out a sob. I could hear him crying. Why was he crying? Panic overflowed through me. What was happening? Why was Alex crying?

I tried to calm him down, but my actions were rewarded with nothing. I could hear Sukino putting something down gently on the floor.

I asked Alex what was happening and I was only answered with more sobs.

Then Sukino spoke, "Jessie. I killed her. I didn't know. Alex..." His voice sounded tight with remorse.

Oh no. Jessie was Alex's "friend". No wonder he was so upset. I listened as Alex stood up and lazily shuffles his feet away.

I didn't bother walking after him. I couldn't see him anyways. So I stayed with Sukino. Eventually, Sukino sat down next to me. I could here him release a heavy sigh as he sat.

He started explaining what happened to me.

"One moment I was in my cave and the next she was dead by my feet! I don't know what happened. I just don't! Someone said 'I always knew you were a monster' and then I was there! What happened? Tell me what happened?"

I hated the panic in his beautiful voice as he explained himself. At the moment, I think the best thing he could do was to explain it to Alex. I told him this and I heard him rush out of the cave after him. I could imagine the hope I had sparked in his nonhuman eyes.

I want to know what he looks like. Alex didn't describe him. He didn't even use the term monster! He must look beautiful then, just like he sounds. I wanted to scream in frustration. Why did I have to be blind?! Why?!

I felt something soft brush up against my legs. I jumped in surprise at the sudden sensation. Then I realized that Alex had said something about Sukino having a cat, so this must be said cat.

I felt the feline jump into my lap. The warmth of its weirdly clean fur warmed up my legs even more.

I petted the cat and listened to it purr on top of me. It was strangely calming and soon I found myself tired.

I am old what do you expect?

I laid down next to the fire. The cat laid on my stomach this time. Soon I was fast asleep. I sleep so good for once that I didn't even dream, or at least I didn't remember the dream.
