Fang Yuan sneered upon listening this as things were proceeding as he had expected.

He knew that he was still useful to the higher being since only he would be able to bring the complete Gu into being by merging his soul with the embryo form of the Longevity Sovereign Gu hence be would not be disposed off until the higher being's objectives were completed.
He also understood that the higher being would definitely know of everything that happened in the Gu World and would be able to easily kill him like an ant hence he planned each action step by step such that, that higher being don't suspect him.
Hence, as planned by Fang Yuan, that person just observed the course of events and did not interfere and finally came to save him when it looked like all hopes were lost.
