The amount of repairs came faster than He could keep up with. The load was meant for more than one person, however the chief mechanic Esabel was often working on the engine, or designing a device that she would not let him see. The time she had left over was usually spent examining the repairs he had completed.
The day had almost passed, he was allowed to sleep twice, each time for a total of four hours. He was also given two meals. Other than that he was constantly in a state of repairing. His effort was not in vain. He had already leveled up twice. Thankfully repairing these items provided him a certain amount of experience. This was a good thing, because as of now he had no combat capability.
He stretched as he stood up from the work bench. His actions earned him a glare from the petite orc. "You still have four hours until you leave, get back to work half orc." She had slightly better attitude towards him after repeatedly checking his repairs. He had repaired around 100 different items over the duration of his first day. This was not to say he only repaired 100 items, in total he had probably repaired around one thousand items. He had repaired just under 100 different items.
"Yea yea I just need to walk around for a moment Sergeant. My back is getting stiff from sitting there for so long." Guy spoke as he walked around the engine room. "This game is really realistic, It feels like I'm really here. My hands hurt as if I had actually been making repairs all day. Come to think of it why isn't there a way to make this easier? I have the repair ability, but all it does it shows me the proper way to make repairs. It doesn't do it for me. I can reassemble almost anything I see that's taken apart, and take it apart again. These skills are cool, but not something I would be unable to so in the real world."
Behind him Esabel Listened to him speak. "What is this game you speak of? Or the real world? Is this why you travelers disappear for days at a time? only to reappear where you disappeared from?"
Guy nodded to her. "In the world I am from we can only come to the infinite universe through these things called pods. What you see is a projection of my consciousness. My real body is back on earth, inside one of these pods. To us, all of this is a game. Something that is not real."
Esabel looked at him. "So you think this is not real? Even though you can see it, feel it, taste it smell it, and hear it. Like a hallucination? So you think I am not real? If I am not real then how can I think? How can I feel?"
"I don't know Esabel? Artificial intelligence?"
Esabel shook her head. "Artificial intelligence is logical. It is perfect but it can not feel. Though you would have no idea if I truly can feel, be I assure you that I can. I am most definitely real. Now, if you're done having your nervous breakdown get back to work. You still have 30 more repairs to do before your shift is over. And these ones are different than the ones you have done up until this point."
Guy moved back to his bench. She was correct there were three different types guns on his table, ten of each of them. From behind him Esabel's voice sounded. "In this world, In this "Infinite Universe" There is only one rule. The strong rule the weak. Mechanics have little individual combat power. But what we do have is our inventions, our ability to build things. The weapons we can build, The machines and make. These are our power. To get there you need to build. You need to repair, disassemble and reassemble machines over and over and over. You need to do this hundreds of times, thousands of times before you can create. Before you can understand what it means to be a mechanic. Now continue, Finish your work."
Guy took his time on the last of the 30 repairs he had to do. The three new models of guns were completely different from each other, and took some time for him to understand the way they were assembled. He took them apart and reassembled them repeatedly before he started his repairs. His understanding of the weapons increasing immensely as he did so.
An hour later he had completed his task. A series of notifications appeared before him.
When he was done looking at his notifications He realized Esabel was staring at him. "As a newbie mechanic you should have a schematic that you can use. I would recommend you use the remainder of your time to design yourself a firearm. You need to be able to defend yourself."
