Chapter 8.) Shattered Illusions

'Alright we've got your back, let's go for a pincher attack.'

Yūki, Yuri, and Inorin rushed two of the three unknown enemies from all sides.

*Dimension Ray*

*Vampiric Strike*

*Finishing Blow*

They each threw a strong spell that they had in their arsenal. Attempting to either deal high damage or obscure the enemies vision to sneak another attack in.

*Endless Shadow* One of the enemies used.

His move absorbed the attacks thrown at him but it also created a mist over the roof top.

"Haha, weak attacks!" The other enemy said attempting to mock them.

Yuri, with his long axe in hand, began walking straight towards the voice. He was dragging his axe head against the ground, and making a lot of noise. It was planted in the ground ripping the roof up and exposing the floor below it.

Inorin then ran in from the right side to flank the enemy while they were focused on Yuri.

Yūki once again used her Dimension Ray which appeared as a bright purple flash through the mist.

The enemy Mage saw this and summoned the barrier 'Heaven's Shield Level 1' blocking the spell and also unknowingly blocking Inorin from entering as well.

"Ha, this looks like a good as time as any to test it out!" Inorin said excitedly

"Dimension Style: Dimensional Rift, Max Enhance!" Inorin yelled

*You have unlocked a new skill; Dimension Style: Shadow Step.*

'Let's see now.' Inorin thought as he clicked on the description of the skill.

*Used to travel short to mid range distances in half a millisecond by switching places with something else. Element variants of the skill 'Vanishing Step' grants side abilities.*

*Shadow Step*

He vanished from the outside of the barrier, and appeared directly behind the enemy mage, by switching places with the second enemy standing there.

"They are weak, let me t-"

The other enemy vanished in the middle of his sentence.

"What? How are you here, where did my teammate go?" The enemy Mage questioned

'Yūki, take care of the other one.' Inorin ordered.

'Koeda get in here!' He continued

Koeda appeared behind him, and winked at the other Mage as a way of taunting him.

"Yes Rin?" She replied out loud

"I need to borrow you for a second."

Koeda nodded then Inorin vanished and Yuri appeared in his steed.

'Yuri, he's all yours!' Inorin stated

Then he and Koeda traded places so he could get back inside the barrier.

"Koeda, help Yūki with her opponent." He ordered knowing that she would attempt to leave again.

Inorin stayed to serve as defense since Berserker classes usually have a hard time dodging elemental based attacks.

But even though he was there physically, he wasn't actually paying attention, instead he was looking at his menu.

He was looking at his Stat Card, his level had been raised from 15 to 25 and he had received 42,048 points to distribute between his attributes however he desired.

'Hmm, how should I use these?' Inorin questioned himself.

'Luck really isn't needed when I can just take whatever I want. Health probably isn't needed either, since it seems like I can't get hit either way. But I'll put it up just in case.' He contemplated

While he was busy upgrading himself, Yuri was still fighting the Mage.

Inorin peeped a bright blue beam come his way through his peripheral vision.

He quickly clicked off of his menu and jumped back in order to dodge it.

'Did he really aim to instigate a 2v1 when he had a fair fight or was his aim just off?' Inorin thought

"No matter, if you really desire to place yourself at a disadvantage then I'm happy to oblige!"

He yanked his bow off of his back and fired 3 quick arrows. Immediately after releasing his bow string he charged in, replacing the bow with his two axes.

Shinobi running towards him, head first, arms backwards, the enemy Mage was forced to take offense in order to keep Inorin at bay.

*Lightning Wall*

The Mage placed a wall of lightning around Inorin and Yuri to trap them about 15 meters away from him.

One of the 3 arrows got pass the wall but it only hit the mage's staff and then burrowed itself into it.

*Elemental Rain*

"ILL KILL YOU!" The Mage yelled at the top of his lungs.

A shower of flaming green meteors appeared in the sky heading directly for the wall of lightning.

"But I'm still alive." Inorin whispered into his ear

He swung the axe and planted it into the mage's shoulder. Then he used his 'Shadow Step' to switch places with Yuri.

The mage pulled the axe out then used 'Illusion Magic: Unseen Servant' and had the Servant hold Yuri in place.

The meteor shower, by this time, was directly over Inorin's head only about 30 seconds away from impact.

'My Constitution and Willpower are too high for something this weak, I probably won't even feel it.' He thought you himself

He began walking straight for the wall of lightning surrounding him.

He passed through without a issue, only feeling a small tickle down his spine.

*Shock Immunity has been acquired.*

'Ohh so that's how you unlock passive skills.' Inorin thought intriguingly

"What? How is that possible? You should've taken a huge amount of damage from the lightning." The Mage asked hysterically

"Haha, my stats are too high for a weak attack like that to do any real damage." Inorin replied

"W-what? you must've attempted the exams at least 3 times to be that strong!"

"Nope, this is actually my first attempt."

'There's no way, he must be bluffing.' He thought

The meteors impacted with the rooftop just behind where Inorin was standing and releasing black soot everywhere.

"No matter I'll still kill you anyw-" The Mage was stopped mid sentence.

Yuri had freed himself and severed the Mage's head the moment he took his eyes off him.

Throughout their entire conversation, Yuri and Inorin were waiting for a clear opening to end it in one shot.

"Thank you, I was tired of hearing his voice."

"You guys finally finished? Koeda and I already killed our guy a long time ago." Yūki explained

'Hey, it wasn't the archer that we killed, so be alert!' Koeda articulated telepathically

'Okay we'll hunt him down and kill him. Which one of you got that last kill?' Inorin questioned

'I did!' Koeda exclaimed

'Alright then Yūki the next kill is all yours.'

"Let's get a move on." He ordered while walking to the roof exit.
