The reckoning day of the awaited judgment on Falana and his cohorts is here or rather, I should call it JUDGMENT DAY.
Thousands of Aiyekoto's community indigenes and occupants are still in the euphoria of the joy and gladness they got from the pronouncement of Ajadi (The Aayó Olopòn master) as the new King to home himself in the palace, embellish himself with the beads and cloth himself with the Royal chevron while having the crown well situated on his head..
In the land, the King is regarded as the second God. They believe that God is spiritual and that he can't be seen but the King is the human representation of God cause anything he wishes for must be granted.
But the mystery behind having a King who dies on the throne is that, every new King that occupies the thrones must father the kids of the last king and also husband the wife even if he already has his own kids and wife before emerging as the king.
Some wife's despise the reality of not being the only wife in their household, they detest polygamous family. But in situations of kingship, the incumbent wife got no choice, in fact she mustn't project any complain cause it is tradition for the king to be embellished with beautiful women of his choice, sometimes it might even be a virgin but definitely above 18 years..
However, it doesn't end there. The king will also possess lots of wealth, he will possess the authority to manage every financial situation in the community. He will get the privilege to meet with the Governor of the state when needs may.
The throne makes every king spiritually, monetarily, globally, financially and morally powerful.
Its almost noon, dozens of youths are outside of the court waiting for the judgement time on their fellow compatriots. Some factions joined voices together singing their solidarity songs while some join hands together praying for mercy while they all wait for the judge.
Almost the entirety of the community are there to witness the judgment scene, only those who finds it almost impossible to substitute their work for this scene are not there. Kids are on holiday, the court is situated at a place the legs can trek for the kids who are used to the practice of trekking to school everyday. Even though the court room isn't sizeable enough to accommodate everyone but the outer space seems vast enough to firm the crowd.
"But wait, I think we were told that the kingship title only leaves and stay in the generational family of the former king?
How come Mr Ajadi was chosen by the gods just as the priest said?
This thing seems hazy to me. I smell hypocrisy and corruption." Ayo told Ayeni while they both were trekking to the court to also witness the scene as holiday in school permits them.
"Well, I thought I was the only one having this thought.
But anyway, they say the gods don't lie. Maybe the gods have chosen to continue with a new family, thus, I smell hypocrisy too.
However, the chosen King has always been a good friend to the former king when he was alive, maybe that was what inspired the gods to make such selection." Ayeni proclaimed.
"That's true though, the gods knows better." Ayo replied..
While the trekking continues, Sade and Aduke passed by Ayo and Ayeni in Ogbeni Alakija's car who never saw them else he would have lifted them to the court.
Sade and Aduke also pretended like they never saw them just as a medium to inflict revenge on them after which Ayo and Ayeni left the girls at home saying they can't walk with them because they'll be slow.
Fortunately, they got a ride by Ogbeni Alakija and left the boys to enjoy the treks after belittling them.
Barrister Johnson, the father of one of the accused who will be representing the accused in court seems to be well prepared for this case as he calmly sits in his car with his wife and family.
"The judge is here,
The judge is here"
Everyone said with a panicked voice..
"Ayo, where are your parents?" Barrister Johnson asked.
"Dad went to work and mom ain't feeling too well." Ayo replied.
"Well, you'll be representing your family as one of my witnesses and victims." Barrister said.
"Me?
No!!
I'm not a criminal, I did not do anything sir." Ayo replied with a troubled face.
"No, its fine.
Nothing will happen, you'll just confirm some things when I call you outside." Barrister Johnson emphasized.
"Alright sir, he will join you when due." Ogbeni Alakija replied on Ayo's behalf.
With the intervention of Ogbeni Alakija, Ayo took a relief breath knowing that he is safe in the hands of Ogbeni Alakija.
The judge declares the court open.
The lawyer from the chiefs; the prosecutor opened the floor with series of constitutional quotes and rights, stating that Mr Falana and his cohorts should face the wrath of the law after their act of impunity by harboring and exercising Justice in their hands.
"Your lordship sir, I want us to remember what the term 'Justice' means, no one is above the law. Tradition demands that in such situations, such king should be sent to exile but its so sad that after the confession from the King, the chiefs still harbors him in palace wining and dining, this act of 'holier than thou' and hypocrisy was what spirited the accused and his cohorts knowing the amount of damage and hurts the King has caused to the household of his victims.
These accused youths have adequate respect for the law, the believe no criminal should go unpunished no matter their status or political affiliations, that's why we hardly record heated exchange between the youths of this community. They made justice prevail but they only did the right thing through the wrong medium.
All they need is proper orientation in giving adequate respect to the law.
I'll be calling out the families of the victims who lost their family's to the hands of the unjust killings." Barrister Johnson advocates.
(Ayo, Ayeni and others stepped out)
Barrister Johnson continues;
"Sir, these people deserves justice to prevail and these accused youths intruded the unjust practice flaming from the chiefs in the palace to preserve the king.
I want y'all to tell me who you lost to this brutal kidnappings and killings."
(Everyone begins to mention their loved ones with an emotional voice and tears rolling down their cheeks).
Barrister Johnson concludes;
"At this point sir, I'll plead not for freedom cause i understand the law and i know they are guilty but I plead for judgment with mercy.
Thank you.."
The Judge said;
"With all the advocacies from the two parties, this is my judgment.
'Falana will go on a 2year imprisonment with hard work while his six cohorts will go on a 1year and 6months imprisonment'."
The crowd wowed.
"The judgment is soft on you because its glaring that the whole community attest to your good being.
Court Dismissed.."
Barrister Johnson and wife felt bittered but they were glad that their advocacies reduced their sons jail term..
The rest of the youths were heartbroken as some were profusely crying.
"Stay strong Falana, we will regularly come to check on you."
Falana was dragged into a black van as he was accompanied to the prison by convoys of the prison.
