The Appointment

Its a new day for the Biobaku's family. It might not be whole for them due to their injured father but not a minus for them either..

Mr Biobaku is recuperating in the hospital, the healing might not happen with the snap of a finger and in fact the bruises might stamp a scar on his skin but what matters most for the family is his aliveness and healthiness..

Its just a week to the commencement of Sade's FEC exam, apparently, she has been psychologically disturbed by the recent panicking and trembling but while Ayo and Aduke are returning back to school, she will be taking the responsibility of looking after her recuperating father and also reading for her coming exams while her mother shuffles between hawking in the market and checking up on both Mr Biobaku and Sade..

"Ayo, how are you doing?" Asked Mr Ben, the Vice Principal of the Holy Boys and Girls school.

"I'm doing well sir!" Replied Ayo.

"How's your father? I hope he is swiftly recuperating?" Asked Mr Ben.

Ayo replied;"Yes sir, he his healing.Thank you sir!"

Mr Ben continues;"Are you sure you and your sister are fit and settled to resume back to school?Cause I heard the narration of your ordeal from one of your neighbor."

"Yes sir, we are fine, fit and healthy sir. My sister has made it a responsibility to stay with dad at the hospital while she reads and prepare for her FEC exams. Not coming to school won't give father a rapid healing but coming to school will challenge us to stay happy and focused." Replied Ayo.

"You're such a brave boy, in fact the whole community is talking about your act of bravery the other night. Keep it up, I'm proud of your bravery, brilliancy and behavior."

"Thanks you sir." Ayo replied.

Ayo and Aduke who has been attentively listening to their conversation both went to their respective class.

"Good Morning students," said by the principal of the school.

"Good Morning sir", the students chorused.

The principal continues;

"On the assembly today, we will be addressing an issue and in the same vein we will be appreciating and celebrating one of you.

I want you all to know that education is not the only key to success, although in school teachers do not only teach you how to read and write but they also teach you how to possess good characters.Anytime, you're coming to school, always have it in mind that you ain't just coming to ink your paper but you're also coming to learn on how to become a better person in life.

We all also know that the session is almost over and its almost time for the transition of power from the incumbent student leaders to the immediate seniors (predecessors to successors).

However, it will take a different turn this year as the school management has chosen to embrace a different approach this time.

We all know Ayo Biobaku, the young teenager who has proven to us that a man can be brilliant, brave and possess good behaviors. Due to his recent act of brilliancy and bravery for saving his fathers life through an unexpected medium, we announce that he will be taking over as the 'Head Boy' of our noble school.

The crowd wowed.

The principal continues;

"I know many of you will be pondering and wondering over this decision knowing that Ayo still has 2 years to graduate in this school and he is not in line for the leadership role but I want you all to always remember that 'Age doesn't define a leader'."

Ayo who was caught up by surprise on this decision gently approached the principal as he was called out for official recognition to his fellow students.

They all cheered and applauded him as he said;

"Thank you sir. I appreciate my teachers and the school management for finding me worthy even though I'm not due for this appointment but my father will always say;

"Being strong is the only and just the only option. NO ALTERNATIVE!!"

He continues;

"To my fellow students, I want you all to remember that we are not just fellow students but we are brothers and sisters. Thank you all for believing in me."

The crowd applauded him as he exchange hugs and handshakes with his teachers..

"Congratulations, now I'm a friend to the Head Boy," said Ayeni.

"Well, I'm the best friend to the Head Boy," Soyinka jokingly said.

"Wait, you all should not forget that I'm the sister of the Head Boy and also he is my second dad, this means I'm the number one person to his excellence," Aduke said as they all bursted into laughter..

The Holy Boys and Girls School have by history been having a great relationship with the palace, this actually creates more privileges for the students and the students leaders to get acquainted with the King and enjoy other privileges.

The most notable one is 'The One Day King' that has been a privilege every consistent Head Boy enjoys every year in the palace. They get entitled to every benefits that comes to the king that day and they make decisions on behalf of the king wearing their own separate crown.. Hopefully, the dreams of Ayo are growing from surrealism to realism..

"How's your father?Has he made any attempt of talking?" Asked Ogbeni Alakija who came visiting.

"Yet to sir, but the doctor said he is gradually responding to treatment that his pulse are becoming balance and that the bullet hits him at a spot closer to his lungs but his lungs are perfect," replied Sade.

"Alright then, I just hurriedly branched. Will check up later in the day," said Ogbeni Alakija.

"Sister, Sister,I just became the sister of the latest Head Boy in town," said Aduke who demonstrated with dramatic gestures.

"Which Head Boy?I don't understand!" replied Sade.

"Ayo just got the appointment of the next Head Boy that will succeed the incumbent one today. It was announced by the principal on the assembly today." said Aduke.

"Wow, his excellency.I salute you sir.Congratulations my darling brother. I've always told you that you'll not just be successful but you'll be a great man.I just wish Layo is alive to witness this day." Sade pathetically said.

"Don't brood sister, Layo is always with us.Will do all I can to look after you two." Ayo calmly said.

He continues;"We are already conquerors, we all warriors, we are bigger than our tribulations."
