Crying child

Feng Hao quickly sat up, clicking sound emanating from his body. The lactic acid which built up in his body from the last two days had finally started affecting him.

His entire body hurt from the sudden movement of sitting up. The pain was only his first problem. Wan Ya had passed out halfway through the night and the fire had gone out.

'I told her to wake someone up when she was tired' Feng Hao thought, a look of slight disappointment made its way onto his face.

'Well, I guess that I'm to blame as well, I put the fire too close to the entrance and rain had snuffed out the fire.'

Summer had already ended and the chill of autumn had set in. Without a fire it had gotten rather cold and Feng Hao couldn't stop himself from shivering. Feng Hao could've made it a different style of basic shelter which would have made the fire more centralized and safer from rain. In order to do that Feng Hao would have had to cut a hole in the top of the shelter as well as another structure to ensure rain didn't enter through the hole in the top of the shelter. That method would have taken more time which Feng Hao didn't have in that situation.

Feng Hao sighed, on top of all of those other problems he still had another. He didn't get enough sleep to have a clear mind, even now he felt that his thoughts were cloudy and disordered.

The lack of sleep had also caused a severe headache to form. Feng Hao was not pleased, although he could easily withstand massive amounts of pain without it affecting his productivity, that didn't mean the pain was nice.

Feng Hao lay back down on the ground. His back hurt a little because of the uncomfortable sleep but it was nothing compared to the headache. Lying down was all Feng Hao really could do, the lactic acid which had built up in his legs caused them to become inactive, he could barely move them at all.

Feng Hao decided to check his system when he was lying down, it wasn't something he had done in a while.

Feng Hao put the acting skill in support, he had gained it while on the wagon caravan.

Feng Hao also checked his other folders and found two skills in support, one was mental pain resistance which luckily affected his headache. The skill didn't actually lower the pain, it just helped with concentration issues and all the other negative effects.

He kept that in the support folder because it didn't seem defensive in his opinion, it definitely was more supportive than anything else.

The second skill in the support folder was illusion resistance. He had gained it when he forcefully broke out of an illusion that the system had put on him. Feng Long was currently under that illusion which was why he couldn't remember his previous life even though he was a candidate.

The illusion only lasted 3 years until it would slowly fade over the next few years. Feng Hao moved that skill from the support folder to the defence folder.

Feng Hao wondered what kind of skills he could actually gain. He was in a world of martial spirits or as he referred to them, spirit essences. If he gained a skill and a spirit ring with the same effects, what would happen? Could he even gain skills that would have the effects of spirit rings?

Feng Hao stopped thinking about those things because it only made his headache worse. He decided to focus on the soft rain outside.

Feng Hao slowly slipped into a state of enlightening meditation and mysterious heaven technique began to circulate at incredible speed.

His level began to skyrocket as small adjustments were made to the direction and flow of energy, maximizing the potential of the mysterious heaven skill. The level reached 96 before Feng Hao's enlightening meditation was interrupted by a quiet whimpering.

Feng Hao woke up from the trance-like state he was in and looked to where the sound was coming from.

Wan Ya had sat up but for some reason her face was scrunched up and tears were forming in her eyes. Soon she burst into a full out cry as she yelled "I want my mom!" Repeatedly. The hunger and thirst of not eating and drinking had finally affected her, now all she wanted was to go home. She though that it was somewhat fun to be out in the wilderness yesterday, not so much anymore.

Most of all, she missed her parents, loudly crying for them was all she could think of doing. 'It had worked before, it will work now', she subconsciously thought.

This was why Feng Hao couldn't stand kids, they were load, obnoxious and unreasonable among a myriad of other things. Although Feng Hao remembered after a few seconds, he hadn't actually told Wan Ya that they would be going back to vast sea city.

"Hey, Wan Ya, we are going back to vast sea city soon, you can see your mom, just not now, stop crying please." Feng Hao had hoped that explaining the situation to her would stop her crying. He didn't really know any other method to calm her down, he had never successfully dealt with a crying child.

Kids would be kids, even if it was explained to them, they still couldn't see reason. After pausing for a few moment Wan Ya was crying again, repeatedly saying that she wanted her mom.

Feng Hao sighed for a moment before taking a deep breath and loudly speaking. "You can see your mom when we get to vast sea city, which we will go to soon, so stop crying." Although his voice was mostly calm a hint of annoyance was present in his voice. He didn't actually know if her mom was in vast sea city, he was just assuming that because she was in that vast sea city daycare.

Feng Hao had experienced cosmic horrors the likes of which should never exist, he had diffused hundreds of tense situations which would have otherwise escalated in universal wars. He had seen the worst and best of many different races and skillfully maneuvered his way through even the most complicated situations and yet children still broke him!

"But I want my mom now!" Wan Ya screamed. "Why? Why do you want your mom!" Feng Hao said, slightly exasperated. "I miss her!" Wan ya bawled, oblivious to the annoyance that she was causing Feng Hao.

"You crying is not going to make her suddenly appear! Be. Quiet" Feng Hao was running out of patience. Wan Ya just began to cry even louder, it seemed she had given up talking to him and just cried.

Feng Hao couldn't seem to realize that he wasn't helping so he kept on talking to her for a while longer before finally giving up. He couldn't even cover his ears to try and block out the noise because his right arm had a splintering bone which caused him great pain. Although the bone was still fully intact, it's outer layer had partially broken off because of a strong compressing force, turning onto sharp bone shards. The crying was only making his headache worse, Feng Hao was getting rather pissed off.

Ming Ai had woken up because of the noise and was silently watching from the side. She silently grabbed one of the leaves that was making up the outer layer of the shelter and pulled it inside. It created an opening to the outside and any water which dripped down the leaves made it inside the shelter.

Basically, Ming Ai made a rain powered tap and she was currently drinking from it. Feng Hao looked over at what she had done and was pleasantly surprised.

Ming Ai glanced over at him, when their gazes connected both of them tensed up. 'Those are not the eyes of a child' Feng Hao thought. Ming Ai had the eyes of someone who had gone through life and death battles hundreds of times. Ming Ai also recognized that Feng Hao didn't have the eyes of a child either, they were like that of a seasoned warrior who had gone through everything that life could throw at him.

Feng Hao knew that Ming Ai was not a candidate. Every candidate had an aura around them which felt dangerous. It came from Feng Long for a while before they had developed a strong enough bond for the aura of anger and hostility to become one of friendship. Candidates couldn't control this aura, even if they had an indifferent attitude to another candidate, that other candidate would only feel an aura of danger.

Ming Ai clearly didn't have this aura so there was only one explanation as to why she had the eyes that she had. She must be a spirit beast, a strong one at that considering that it became a human.

Feng Hao mentally raised his guard around her. Spirit beasts that were older than 100,000 were just as dangerous as they were rare and mysterious.

Feng Hao didn't understand her objective so he could only pretend he didn't notice and hope she didn't find out. Although she personally would not be a threat, but if she had any powerful friends, Feng Hao might die.
