If, If, If

"I wish you were here," Will complained.

Rather than his usual teasing tone when he talked about how much he needed what he called his 'daily dose of Hazel', he sounded much more serious. He was upset about what happened today.

Hazel wasn't sure what she was supposed to do with him. Eva's little stunt earlier proved that she was the only person in the world who was capable of controlling him even a little. That was an awful lot of responsibility that had been placed on her shoulders out of nowhere.

"And I wish you were home," she said quietly.

If he was home, she never would have been able to answer Carlos's call when it came. She would be tortured by the thought of what Will might have done but not tortured by the bitter truth.

If she hadn't picked up that call, she wouldn't have been as positive as she was that Will had tried to kill Abramson when she saw them together on her phone's screen. Even now, she wasn't certain that he was alive.
