Better Things To Do

"I didn't get much done yesterday but today has been more productive. I ended up painting instead last night. Abstract art. Not my specialty so I'll probably get rid of it," Hazel said dully.

She didn't want Will to see it. It was dark and ugly, just like her heart had become. She couldn't even sell it because he would end up buying it. The painting needed to be destroyed.

"Do you get rid of things that don't turn out well often?" he asked, curiosity tinting his tone.

"No. Art supplies are pricey so I usually plan things out carefully enough that they turn out decently. But I had never done abstract art before. I don't think I'll be doing it again either. I prefer painting more realistically."

Keep talking. Hazel had to keep talking and get through this phone call as normally as possible. Then she would be okay again until he called tomorrow.

"Well, you are talented at painting things realistically. The landscapes you did for the cabin are especially beautiful," Will praised.
