I Can't Believe He's Really Leaving

Eva was writing to decompress after a long day of working in the FBI's organized crime unit. She had gone back to get her master's in criminology after all and went through the long and arduous background check process.

Her work was fulfilling but she was still filled with regret for the ones that got away. She hadn't been able to help her friend but she could prevent the same thing from happening to others.

She and John ended up adopting a pair of traumatized brothers from foster care a few years after they got married. Amari and Denzel were twelve and sixteen now and were doing much better than they had been when they first came to live with them.

Denzel opened the front door and dropped the basketball he had taken with him to the rec center on the ground. "Mom, you got another postcard."

Amari, who was playing video games, perked up with interest. "Where's it from this time?"

"Australia."
