Sky woke to the voices of Alivia and April as they busied themselves around her room. "Well good morning sleepyhead," greeted Alivia with a smile.
"Smells like you had fun last night with his majesty," teased April as she held up a set of clothes. "Bath and then breakfast?"
Groaning Sky swung her legs off the bed and winced when she stood up. "That good huh," laughed April but cut it off when Sky glared at her.
"There was nothing really good about the first half. Okay, it was good but definitely brutal. I'm sure I'm sporting bruises," complained Sky lifting her nightshirt to look at his crotch before tenderly walking toward the bathroom.
"You're walking like you were ridden hard and put up wet," said Alivia taking in her appearance.
"What did he try to do pound you into submission," joked April as she turned on the hot water.
"Well he did have my face shoved painfully into the floor while he snarled at me and his death flew around the room," informed Sky striping out of her clothes.
"This is so awkward. We are talking about the King after all, but I have to know why did he shove your face into the floor," asked Alivia as she began to blush slightly.
Climbing into the tub as April poured in what looked like bath salts Sky sighed with relief. "I guess because he was really angry, but I'm not too sure on why he was so angry. Then again I make him angry a lot."
"You might initiate him from time to time, but you've never truly angered him," said Alivia propping herself up on the sink.
With a bark of laughter, Sky replied, "Well that's a lie. I sure did last night."
"We will be the judge of that so what happened last night and don't skimp on the details, because Godness knows what you think is unimportant is the most important part of all," asked April pulling up a chair and propping her feet up on the tub.
After telling the women her story both of their jaws wound up on the floor. "Well hell yeah he was angry," stated Alivia once the story was done.
"Sky he's the King and the most dominant dragon in the world. You can't just tell him you want an Earth dragon who's, no affiance to earth dragons, at the bottom of the pecking order."
"Why not," asked Sky glaring at the two women.
"Sky when he asked you what you needed you should have replied with him," informed Alivia.
"Or you could have said his dick," added April causing Alivia's face to burn scarlet.
"April how vulgar!"
"What it's true it would have turned him on more and you know it," teased April before both women turned back to Sky who was still sitting there oblivious.
"Why would I have said that when I went to talk to Jamie," asked Sky.
"Sky sometimes you are bird-brained, do you know that," asked Alivia.
"She's not bird-brained, she's a complete moron," roared April throwing her hands up in defeat.
"How am I a moron," asked Sky glaring at her friend who was currently looking at her like she was dumb.
"Do not tell your mate, or hell a man in general, who's got their fingers deep inside you digging for gold that you want a different man. When you said that, you told him without words that you didn't want to mate with him. That you wanted to mate with Jamie," stated April completely understanding his actions now.
Working her bottom lip while she processed that information, Sky now understood why he was snarling, "You are mine," at her. She also understood why he'd seemed so upset when he said that she'd told him she needed another man. At that time she thought that they were talking about why she was there. She had no clue that he was talking about what she needed or wanted from him. Okay, maybe she could be a complete moron at times. Feeling slightly bad Sky was about to ask what she should do when the world shifted and she was standing in Michael's bedroom. Whirling around to face Michael Sky snapped, "I'm in the bathtub right now this isn't the time for me to go walking about."
"Is Alivia and April attending to you," asked Michael in a completely disheveled mess.
Taking in his appearance Sky looked from his messy hair like he'd run his hand through it a thousand times in the last hour. He was wearing a rumpled red shirt with misaligned buttons, and one gold cufflink. His pants were black with blue trim and the jacket that was tossed onto a table was a different shade of blue then the trim on the pants. Added to that his death was rolling off of him in waves. "Yes. You look horrible and that doesn't match," informed Sky making her way over toward his closet.
Finding a matching shirt, vest, and jacket that went with the pants he was wearing Sky sat them all on the bed. Flattening the shirt out so that it didn't get wrinkled she froze when Michael leaned over her. With his face buried in her hair, Michael breathed her in before exhaling deeply. "I'm sorry about yesterday. I blew my top and I treated you poorly. I jumped to conclusions and we shouldn't have. I know you don't think the same way the rest of us do and I should have known. I should have asked more questions, but I didn't and I'm sorry."
"It's okay, it's not like you hurt me or anything. I should have been smarter and to such a moron. I should have understood what you were asking for and this could have been avoided," replied Sky not knowing what else she should say.
Lifting his hand from the bed Michael ran it down her body until he was cupping her sex gently. "But I did hurt you. I can feel it, and you are not a moron," mumbled Michael into the base of her skull.
"Well April says I'm a moron and Alivia said I'm bird-brained which is pretty much the same," said Sky as her body began to react to Michael's touch.
Even if she was a little sore and her flesh was a bit tender her body was willing to take him again. Sky could feel herself growing wet as her nipples began to draw up tight begging for his attention as well. "Umm," purred Michael as he parted her damp fold with a finger teasing her entrance. "You are so wet for me my Love and yet I've done nothing."
"You just touching me is doing something. I can't help it," replied Sky thinking she had done something wrong again as he growled at her.
Kissing his way down her back Sky yipped when he sunk his teeth into her rear. Pushing herself up off the bad Michael growled loader as he pushed her back down. "Nope stay there," rumbled Michael as he lifted her leg and slide between her and bed.
Resting his back against the bed he sat her foot on the bed rail before cupping her ass with his hands. Pulling her toward him Skys hips jerked at the feel of his hot breath on her already feverish skin. "You smell like ambrosia," moaned Michael before pulling her clit into his mouth and rattling. "But taste like heaven."
Sky moaned herself as she rocked against Michael's feasting mouth. Crying out when his tongue drove into her she fisted her hands in the bedsheets. Sucking, twirling, and pulling on the control center of every nerve ending within her body she tumbled over the edge of the abyss. "So soon," laughed Michael releasing his hold of her if only for a moment just to flip her over. "I am going to watch the next one."
Draping her legs over his shoulders Sky watched him as he feasted on her flesh. As his grass-green eyes changed to obsidian and his horn provided her the prefect handles, she cried out his name. Chuckling as she rode his face Michael stroked her fires even higher as his fingers entered her. Questing and searching his fingers dug at her insides. Moaning, Sky cried out in surprise as her body jerked violently when Michael's fingers grazed something deep within her. Growling Michael wrapped his free arm around her leg locking her in place before he stroked again. Finding that one spot again Sky cried out again as her body involuntarily jerked, but it couldn't go far. Rubbing it again and again Sky her body shuttered and shook as it tried to move away from whatever Michael was doing. Relentlessly he dug at her while his teeth and tongue worked on her clit driving her to the point of insanity. Her toes began to curl as she screamed out for mercy until every muscle in her body locked up including her lungs. Unable to scream, unable to move, Sky's body bent over backward off of the bed as fluid poured from her body. Michael let loose an unearthly snarl she'd never heard before as he continued to feast upon her until she was nothing more than pudding in his hands.
Gently letting her down Sky looked up at his devilish grin. "When we meet in the flesh I will bathe in that orgasm my mate. If you were truly here I would be in need of a new outfit," purred Micheal before his lips captured hers.
Even though she could smell herself upon his skin she couldn't taste it. When he drew back Sky looked into his hooded and lustful eyes. Reaching between them Sky took ahold of his straining erection. It was only fair that he should find release too thought Sky, but Michael pulled her hand away. "No not today," said Michael as he backed up.
Feeling dejected Sky looked from the bulge being barely contained within his pants back up to Michael's face that was now void of his dragon. "Not while you are hurting, because of my anger my love," said Michael leaning down kiss her frown away. "This was my way of apologizing to your lovely core for hurting it. But I must get dressed and start my day and so should you."
Pushing himself upright Michael adjusted himself before tucking his shirt in. "You are not wearing that," stated Sky watching him trying to straighten his shirt out.
"An why not?"
Rolling her eyes Sky got off of the bed and began removing the one cuffing before turning to the buttons. "Because nothing you have on matches, and what's up with the new wardrobe?"
"The council thought it would be good if the King would randomly wear the colors of the dragon clans. Since we've now discovered that I've got the fire element of my birth then all the other Kings to follow will too. They've decided because of this that a little color will be added to the wardrobe. Since I still can't show any favoritism even though I'm fire, I have to wear all the colors equally," grumbled Michael as his dick hardened even more as Sky slid his shirt over his shoulders.
Even though Sky wasn't doing anything sexual, the point of her undressing him was so sensual he couldn't help but rattle at her. Looking at him confused Sky quickly stepped back. Pulling her back to him Michael rattling again and stole a passionate kiss. "Not all rattles are of aggression," said Michael. "You still haven't figured that out, but yet you rattle at me."
"She always rattles in aggression, even if it's a none life-threatening aggression," said Sky pushing Michael's shirt the rest of the way off of his body.
"So when I make this sound what do does your dragon think," asked Michael stepping back up behind her as she leaned over the bed and he rattled again.
"To her, it's a sound of warning, but I know if you're holding me close it's not directed at me," replied Sky picking up the shirt she'd pulled from the closet earlier.
"You can't tell the difference between the two," asked Michael with a perplexed look?
"Should I be able to," asked Sky holding the shirt up for him to get into.
"As a dragon, yes you should be able to. There is a distinct difference between the two. One rattle should have you running away, and the other should have your panties wet just by hearing it," informed Michael watching Sky buttoning his shirt.
"Well I guess we don't make very good dragons then," replied Sky soothing his shirt out before tucking it into his pants.
Working his shirt into his pants Sky created two pleats in the back like she'd seen Eli do numerous times. This created a nice crisp look in the first and prevents bunching that would look unkingly. "I wouldn't say that," said Michael titling her chin up so that she had to look at him. "Maybe you're just a different kind of dragon with different sounds. You may rattle, but you also make that odd knocking sound and that haunting bull elk kind of sound. Just always know if I rattle at you it's because I want your panties to be wet okay."
Chuckling Sky shook her head, "you can do that without rattling. Now give me your wrist."
Lifting his arm up Sky installed one cufflink before the other. After that, she helped him into his vest and jacket before retrieving his hairbrush from the bathroom. "I'm capable of brushing my own hair," informed Michael when Sky pointed at a chair.
"I don't know, have you looked at it today," asked Sky gesturing toward the bigger mess of on top of his head that she helped create. "Either way you said you've had a really bad couple of days. Tanner says that when people are upset then they seek out comfort. I find it comforting when April brushes my hair, so I figured I'd brush yours."
Making his way over to the chair Michael sat down and adjusted his uniform so that he wouldn't wrinkle it. "So you like it when people brush your hair," asked Michael remembering all the times her hair looked wild because she wouldn't let anyone brush it.
"No, I just like it when April brushes my hair. She isn't just anyone," replied Sky as she began to brush out his tangled starting from the end.
"It's because she's your best friend," said Michael leaning back in the chair and closing his eyes.
"I've got a couple of friends, but I don't let Jeffery brush my hair," stated Sky as she ran the brush through Michael's smooth raven black hair.
"That's because Jeffery is your friend, not your best friend. There is a difference between the two," purred Michael enjoying this more then he figured he would.
"There is a difference between the two," asked Sky as she began running her fingers through his now shiny locks.
"Yes like Tanner, Kyle, and Jamie are my friends, but Eli is my best friend," said Michael practically purring at the feel of her hands in his hair.
"I think I understand," said Sky thinking about how Michael interacted with Eli a lot differently than the other three. "You know April really likes Eli."
"Do you know that Eli wants to really practice mate with April," joked Michael sitting up in the chair to stare at his beautiful yet scheming mate. "They are mates, aren't they? That's what that pink ribbon is between the two I saw within your memories. I was right wasn't I?"
"Even so, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink," replied Sky setting the brush down and looking a Michaels handsome face as he stood.
It looked like years have been lifted from him as he smiled down at her. "You look like you feel better."
Crushing Sky to his chest Michael breathed her in deeply as he picked her off of the ground before dropping her back again. "All thanks to you, but you need to get back before you miss breakfast."
Giving her one last final kiss Sky could feel his dragon pushing her back toward her body. Opening her eyes Sky could see several sets of eyes starring down at her with worried expressions. "Twice within twenty-four hours," said Tanner with a deep furrow in his brow. "Things must be really bad. Do I need to head back?"
"No he'll be fine he's got all of the others," stated Sky sitting up in bed.
"So what happened this time," asked April crossing her arms over her chest as her worry changed to anger. "Is he still angry?"
"No he apologized and did you know Eli wants to practice mate you?"
"Sky," shouted April as her face went beat red right before she beaned Sky in the face with a pillow.
Laughing Sky rolled out of the way as she swung again and raced into the bathroom where she promptly locked the door.
Dressed and ready the group made their way down to breakfast which turns out was just as lively as supper. Well, besides there were no dancers this time and tables were in the place of the dance floor. From what Sky could determine was that dining was a family affair as dragons of all ages dined within the hall. There were even a couple of earth dragon toddlers running amuck. Unable to contain herself she scooped one of them up as he ran by her. Chirping and flapping his wings happily the baby shifted forms and squealed with delight. Enjoying the infant's happiness and joy Sky couldn't help but laugh along with him. Before long the other trouble maker was landing on her head wanting attention as well. "Oh come on now," laughed Sky as the mother of the second toddler came rushing over.
"I'm so sorry my Queen," gushed the woman clearly embarrassed as her mate left the table and made his way toward them from where he was talking with a group of guards.
He seemed more upset then she did and Sky's response didn't help his mood any either as she stated with mock sternness, "I can't believe you!" Unable to hold it any more she kissed the chirping baby on the head before laughing. "You shouldn't have made such a cute baby. You are just as adorable," cooed Sky looking around for his mother who was standing just to the side timidly. Smiling at her a wave of excitement and joy flowed off of her as she handed the ecstatic child back to his mother. "When these two grow up those fire dragon boys will have a run for their money. Those two are going to be stealing hearts when they grow up. Especially this one. He's going to be massive for an earth dragon, but then again he's got good genes. I'm surprised the goddess gave him earth powers. Yes I am," cooed Sky as the toddle reached out for her to pick him up again.
Turning to continue her way toward her seat Sky paused at everyone's expression and the tears within several eyes. "What," asked Sky looking back at her group of friends who were currently giggling.
"You are overloading everyone again," laughed April before the group exploded in a roar. "Dial it down a little!"
"Oh my bad," said Sky forcing her sneaky powers back down turning off the glow of her body. "I can't help it. I love babies."
That's when she saw it and another wave of excitement flowed off of her instantly. "Ah! That was so fast Liam is going to be so excited," exclaimed Sky racing across the dining hall ward a woman who looked to be a human forty and placed her hand upon her belly. "Hey Tanner its Chelsy, she's back already!"
Rolling his eyes Tanner shook his head. "Sky you are disturbing Lady Azalee and who is Chelsey?"
"Oh come on you saw her when I dropped her off at the temple," exclaimed Sky still crouched in from of the woman.
"Wait! Are saying that Lady Azalee is caring that little she-dragon you pulled out of Liam," asked Shelby as his face lit up in laughter as he began pounding the back of the man beside him. "Oh just wait until I tell Michael who his son's mates Father is!"
"What," asked the man who was grunting as Shelby pounded on him. "Are you saying we're pregnant?"
Tears started pouring down the woman's face. "Her name is Chelsy and she has a mate," cried the woman before she collapsed.
"Oh please don't cry. You can name her whatever you want. She's your baby now. It's not like she'll remember her first life. Oh, I'm sorry please don't cry," said Sky quickly trying to soothe the bawling woman.
Rapping her arms around Sky's neck the woman cried even harder. Looking back at her friends with pleading eyes Sky silent asked for help. "Well it's paybacks for making her uncomfortable earlier, and it's not like you didn't just drop a bombshell in her lap," said Tanner patting Sky on the head before he made his way toward his seat.
"At least Liam will be happy now," smiled April as her and Alivia walked passed. "He was so angry when you took her away in the first place."
"Is Liam her mate," asked the woman sniffing a little as her mate came over to collect her. "Or will be one day."
"Yes and I'll tell you all about him Azalee, come on," beamed Shelby as he assisted in helping Azalee out of the floor.
With that, the three of them left the dining hall as excited chatter erupted everywhere. "Just wait until he learns Liam is a metal mover. That'll put a wrench in his system," joked Tom as he and Jerry walked pasted to take their seats as well.
"Why would it matter if Liam is a Metal dragon," asked Sky picking herself out of the floor and scarring after them.
"Azalee is the mate to the head of the Smithing Guild," informed Tanner. "An the guilds are strict on their lineages. They are a fire dragon only kind of establishment."
"We're talking about mates and babies not building things," stated Sky causing the High Lord who was seated to her right to chuckle.
"Building babies and building houses are one and the same within the Land of Fire. Remember yesterday when I was talking to the Doctor about babies. This kingdom has a hard time mixing races. It's not like we dislike the other races or even want them dead. We as a culture just see ourselves as their betters is all. Earth dragons aren't the only ones who are struggling to change a culture. I am glad though Azalee is finally pregnant. They have been trying for so long and she's been growing more isolated and depressed the last several years. Just the other day I was pushing for him to adopt, which for a male dragon is hard to do. Most male dragons don't want to raise another's offspring but for his mate's sanity, I was hoping he'd agree. I hate seeing him so upset. It's kind of funny that his daughter's destine mate is the son of the famous Masamune swordsmith. Can you see everyone's destined mates," asked the High Lord?
"No, I just know her because I had to pack her soul around for a couple of months. Besides that, the only other souls I know by heart are the Metal Dragons, because I was physically attached to all of them for a couple of years. Besides that, I can tell who will be who's mate only after the connection has been made. The goddess attaches the ribbon bond. Liam's bond to Chelsie strangely enough is still attached even after I pulled her soul from him. It'll be interesting what happens when she's born again."
"Do you think he'll come here? Do you think his father will come with him," asked the High Lord with hopeful eyes?
"Goddess if I know," stated Sky before turning toward her breakfast.
Considering it was just breakfast and Sky had already had a busy, eventful day, the rest of the day should prove to be just as interesting with the beginning of her classes. After breakfast was literature and then Fire Dragon customs, culture, and history. After lunch was social studies and then fine arts and music. From there it was supper, etiquette classes Fire Dragon style, and then once the sun was down it was sparing class. All of the classes she had on her list were roughly the same ones she had in the Land of Water and Earth with the exception of Social Studies. When she reported to the front doors of the castle for that class she was surprised to find a middle-aged earth dragon. "Good afternoon my Queen," greeted the man taking in Sky's boy like clothes with a smile. "I'm glad I don't have to instruct you to change. That'll make my job easier."
The man wasn't the only one scrutinizing the person in front of them. Sky was doing the same thing as she looked at his warn and faded boots to his dust-covered clothes. "I am the groundskeeper at the castle. For the next few weeks, I'll be teaching you how life works here at the castle. Today will be fairly simple. I want you to find someone within the castle grounds. I want you to do their job. Tomorrow you will tell me what you did and what you learn. You may begin."
Without a thought, Sky ran through the bailey around toward the side where the horse barns was at. Somewhere their she knew she could find the mouse of a woman. Making her way quickly through several of the barns Sky finally stopped when she heard light crying. Finding the source, Sky found the mouse covered in what looked like dead grass and something that smelled horrible. Tucked up in the corner of a stall rocking herself Molly wept silently. Making their way in Sky and her two guards looked at each other sadly before making their way over to her. "Hey, Molly what happened," asked Sky laying hand on Mollys knee. "Oh don't cry," added Sky when Molly began to cry harder.
Pull Molly's small frail body against hers, Sky cringed at how bad she smelled but she held her until the shaking had stopped. Once she seemed to be a little better Sky released her hold as she looked down at her now dirty shirt that smelled just a bad. "By the way you smell horrible," informed Sky brushing Molly's uck filled hair out of her face.
"That's because I'm covered in poop," sniffed Molly fiddling with the small rip in the knee of her pants.
"Who covered you in poop," gasped Alivia shocked that someone would do such a thing.
"This is poop," asked Sky cringing at the dark spots on her shirt.
"I'm sorry you're dirty because of me," whispered Molly on the verge of tears again. " I got poop on the Queen!"
Burring her face back into her knees again this time all three girls joined in a poop covered group hug. "The Queen doesn't care that she's covered in poop she's more upset that you're crying, and that someone covered you in poop to begin with," growled April getting angry. "You tell me who it was and we'll go beet them up for you."
"No it'll just make things worse," cried Molly in a panic to think April might actually follow through with her words.
"Well if we can't help you punch someone's face in, then let's get you cleaned up," said Alivia pulling back giving Molly a kind smile.
"I can't I've got to much work to do," replied Molly so quietly that the group barely could hear her.
"Well, we can help with that," said Sky jumping to her feet.
"I can't ask you to do that," mumbled Molly as her ears began to turn red. "You are the Queen of our greet country."
"A Queen who's working on her social studies course in which the instructor said I had to help someone do a job around the castle. I choose to help you, so come on," said Sky extended her hand down toward Molly.
Reluctantly taking the offered hand, Molly hid a shy smile as Sky pulled her off of the ground. "Um….okay….. um… we need to clean out all of these stalls and….um… then… um put new…um..bedding down."
"Alright so how do we do that," asked Sky looking around for anything that might help in their task.
"Um this way," whispered Molly leading them to a room full of tools.
Handing them all these really big fork things, Molly led them all back to the stall they wherein. Showing them how to muck the stall and where to toss the soiled bedding once their wheel borrow was full the woman got to work. As they worked April started to sing to herself and before long everyone was singing along with her. No one paid much mind to each other until the heard a fourth voice joined from a different stall right across from them. Turning at the sound of the powerful voice all the girls rushed over to see it was Molly singing. Grinning really big at each other all three women cheered her on when Molly stopped out of embarrassment. "Oh no girl you need to work it," shouted April before three of the burst out laughing.
"From the top then," stated April before belting her heart out.
Joining in Sky nudged Molly to probe her out of her shell before dancing back to stall she was working on. It didn't take long for Molly to join in again and her shy exterior gave way just a little more. Losing track of time the girls were currently shaking straw everywhere and laughing like children. Chasing each other around and making it rain straw down on each other's head their play was brought to an abrupt halt when someone cleared their throat. Turning quickly toward the sound Molly quickly hid behind Sky trying to make herself appear smaller. "What's is that hiding behind you," asked Tom with a Cheshire cat grin as his dragon red eyes cut a quick glance over at his brother.
"My Queen I think a tiny little mouse covered in straw ran behind you," rumbled Jerry as the twins stocked toward them.
This was twice she'd noticed that their dragons had come out to play within the last two days. It didn't escape her that they only did so around Molly, which was strange because the twins beast were fairly reserved about their presence. It took a lot for them to bring up their dragons, and normally they had to be super angry. From the predatory look in their eyes currently, Sky didn't think they were angry but then their eyes started to hold the same look Michael's dragon gave her. "Don't be mad at her! Leave her alone she's already had a bad day. She doesn't need you two to make it worse," said Sky squaring her shoulders at them so that she was doing a better job of blocking their view.
"Why what happened," rumbled the twins as their horns began to push from their heads in true anger as their face shifted to show it.
"It doesn't matter," huffed Sky eyeing them suspiciously along with Tanner. "Do you three need something? If not you can take your anger elsewhere?"
With great reluctancy, the twins stopped their prowling and composed themselves as Tanner replied, "You are half an hour late for your fine arts class so they sent us to come find you."
"Oh crap! I've got to go," shouted Sky handing Molly what was left of her un-shook square of straw and took off out of the barn.
"Sky you can't go to art class like that," shouted April and Alivia as they raced after her.
Sprinting to the castle and rushing through the hallways Sky found the door to her fine arts class. Tossing it open quickly everyone starred at her in shock as the instructor choked on his drink right before it shot out of his nose. "My Queen," sputtered the instructor when he could finally talk. Making his way toward her he fanned himself as he said polightly, "You are in quite a state."
Looking down at her muck covered clothes and bits of straw everywhere Sky gave him a sheepish grin. "See what had happened was, I was learning how to clean horse stalls and things got just a little carried away. Then I made fun of two water dragons while we were shaking out the straw. From there it went into a downward spiral and you add in a wind dragon and things got fun but a bit messy."
"I see," well it seems you need a bath more than fine arts. We will try again tomorrow," informed the instructor who was still cringing as he shooed her away.
Happy with that, Sky and her guards quickly headed toward their rooms to clean off the day's mess. The rest of the day was dull and boring until Sky walked into training grounds with Tanner and the twins on her heels. Since the girls were not Fire Dragons they had to stay behind. Tanner had said it was because the Land of Fire prided themselves of being warriors and closely guarded their fighting technics. Then again they where about to teach her them, so they're being a bit hypocritical. Walking into the back room reserved for the High Lord and his top guards Sky found a scary-looking man with an eye patch leaning heavily on a lance. "Good Evening Master Leigh," greeted Tanner with a court nod.
"Same to you Lord Kenchen. I was unaware you were going to be attending these training sessions."
"I'm here to train on my own. I just wanted to watch you underestimate your Queen is all," stated Tanner with an expression void of emotion besides the devil in his eyes.
Rolling his head in Tanners direction as if he wasn't worth the energy it would be required to move his entire body the instructor gave a snort. "I never underestimate anyone, boy you speak nonsense."
Laughing both of the twins took a seat far out of the way as they awaited what they hoped would be a good show. "Okay let's see how good you are," yawned the instructor who was still lounging on his lance. "By any means at your disposal try to take this lance from me."
"By any means," clarified Sky as her dragon came up and watched all of the thoughts running through the older dragons head.
"By any means and don't worry you can't hurt me if that's what you're worried about. Give me your best shot," replied the instructor smugly.
Memories of hundreds of dragons before her flashed though the snakes within the man showing her that no one, not even the King had managed to take the lance from him. The old man looked lackadaisical on the outside but he was rigid on the inside. He expected her to come at him from either the front or the side and was prepared for all of these. He'd even had one student try to take it from the air, but Sky was different than all of them. She could do something no one else could and he would never expect her to come from the back. Without moving a muscle Sky jumped behind the old man grabbed the lance and kicked him hard in the back sending him sprawling forward onto the floor. Roars of laughter shot up around the room as all of the occupants let loose at the instructor's blunder. "By the Goddess," exclaimed the old man getting out of the floor like it had bitten him. "What was that?"
"I told you, you were going to underestimate her," laughed Tanner earning himself a deep scowl that even made Sky blanch.
"I can change locations instantly. I call it jumping, others call is shifting, but there is no real term for it. Now what," asked Sky not sure what to do with the lance.
"You hold onto it and try to keep it," laughed the man as his face morphed into something completely scary.
For a one-eyed old man, he was wickedly fast and agile. On top of that the man was underhanded and fought dirty. By the time he was panting in the center of the room, Sky looked down from the rafters at him. "Are we done?"
"Not even close young lady," smiled the old man before flames shot up around his feet.
Yipping when he was suddenly in the rafters with her Sky blinked out of existence and reappeared on the other side of the room. Before she could even react a wall of flames was headed in her direction. Without thinking she brought hers up in defense suddenly the instructor was right in front of her screaming out in pain. Dropping her flames quickly the man was rolling around on the floor holding his face. "I am so sorry," shouted Sky jumping to the man's side thinking she'd hurt him bad.
"Ha I won," growled the man as he pulled the lance from the floor from where she'd dropped it.
"But was it worth it," asked Tanner making his way over to the instructor who was holding his head and groaning.
"It's still a victory, so yes," groaned the old man before his knees gave out. "Okay maybe not." Sweat poured from the old man's body soaking his hair and clothes as he curled into a ball in the middle of the floor. "Okay it wasn't worth it, can I die now," cried the old man as his body began to shake.
"Sky what's going on with him," asked Tanner a bit worried now.
Reaching down Sky pulled the eye patch off of the old man's head revealing an empty eye socket full of blue flames. "Oh man, I feel sorry for you. That shit hurts like a son of a bitch," exclaimed Tanner as he shuttered a the memory of the pain where her flames had healed him.
"That looks so cool like he's-" said Jerry as Tom finished with "Demon possessed."
"Should we get a healer," asked one of the Generals who had been working out.
"Nothing they can do about that," replied Tanner pointing to the flames as the instructor let out a scream.
Soon enough the room was full of people including Alivia and April who were cringing at the knowledge of what was going on. "Everyone out now," ordered the High Lord as him and the head doctor made their way into the training room.
Once the room was empty except for Sky's guards, the King's guardsmen, and the Doctor, the High Lord told his trusted few to close the door. "Sky you've got to do something," said Tanner. "Why is it taking so long?"
Scooting across the ground so that she could put the man's head in her lap Sky shrugged. "It's taking forever because it's just of a drop of power and someone did a lot of damage. There's a chip out of the back of his skull. I'm honestly surprised he's alive today, but he doesn't use that side of his brain so maybe that's why he didn't die. But if it pleases you I'll speed it up but he really won't like it."
With that Sky leaned forward as blue flames flowed out of her mouth into the empty socket of the man who was now screaming like he was dying. Grabbing the hands that cupped his face the old man tried to push her away, and escape the flames but he couldn't. Kicking his feet and thrashing his body the old man began to vomit as blood began to pour from his nose.
"Sky you're killing him," shouted April at the horrific sight in front of her as flames began to flow from his nose as well.
"You think that's bad, you should have seen when she was playing round in Eli's intestines," groaned Tanner looking like he was about to lose his supper.
Without warning the flames stopped as Sky sunk instantly to the ground as Tanner added "An this is where she passes out."
When Sky awake again she found the twins stretch across the foot of her bed snoring lightly curled around each other. Crawling out of bed slowly as to not disturb them she made a quick swing by the bathroom before sneaking toward the bedroom door. Taking one more quick look at the twins she shook her head and snuck out without a sound. Prowling the hallways looking for the kitchen Sky came to an abrupt stop when she opened one door to find the High Lord and her instructor sitting at a table in what looked like an office. Looking from the bottle of scotch to one upset face and one worried one Sky said, "Opps, I'm sorry wrong door."
Closing it quickly Sky turned abruptly to leave when the doors flew open behind her. When she turned back the instructor instantly hit the floor in front of her bowling so he was nothing but a ball on the floor. Grabbing her ankle the man began to cry as he asked, "Please my Queen, I do not mean to be ungrateful, but please take this eye away."
Crouching down in front of him Sky bent her self awkwardly so that her head was on the ground looking the mans face. "What is your name," asked Sky looking at the side of her instructor's face where they eye patch used to be.
Turning his head slightly the instructor opened his eyes to look at her. Where there had been nothing before a new eye filled the void. Tears rolled down his face as he looked at her with one blue eye and one white. Not like the white of his eyes, no the ires looked like fresh white snow with a fine black ring on the outside defining it from the rest of the eye. "It's Andrew Leigh, my Queen."
"Do you not like the eye because it's white like my hair," asked Sky confused because it looked like a perfectly good eye to her.
She could see the black pupil move and contract so she knew he could see her just fine with it. "No, it's because it see things that aren't there," whispered Andrew before closing his eyes tightly.
"Like what," asked Sky rubbing his back as the scent of fear rolled off of the man.
"I'm going insane," said the man as his curled form began to shake with his tears.
"You are not crazy. That I call tell you for sure, but I can't help you if you don't tell me what it is you see," replied Sky softly as she comforted the worrier in front of her like a frightened child.
Opening his eyes again Andrew looked over Sky's shoulder and shivered as he said, "There is an old woman standing behind you, but as I turn I can't see her with my other eye. She's not there. I can see her plain as day with my right eye like she's real. She's in a strange red-colored dress and apron."
Pushing herself off of the floor Sky pointed at the elderly woman. "You mean Coraline?"
"Yes."
"Her dress is red," asked Sky with an impressed look. "That's kind of neat. Everyone I see is like a translucent blue, grey to me. I can't see color."
Sitting up quickly Andrew rubbed the tears from his face. "You see her?!"
"Of course I see her," said Sky getting out of the floor smiling at the old woman. "Coraline this is Andrew. Andrew this is Coraline."
"Bless his heart he's terrified," said Coraline giving him a motherly look.
"I never thought about it, but I guess for someone who wasn't raised seeing wandering spirits it's quite scary," shrugged Sky before asking, "Which way is the kitchen?"
"Oh, it's this way dear. Are you hungry I can make you something," replied Coraline as she and Sky walked off down the hallway.
"My Queen wait," begged Andrew getting out of the floor to follow her. "The eye?"
"I'm sorry you don't like seeing dead people," stated Sky before shrugging. "If you don't like it take it out."
Breaking is silence as he stepped out of the office the Hight Lord asked, "You are saying my brother sees dead people," before tossing back the rest of his glass of scotch.
"Not like the walking dead. It's more like wandering souls who just don't want to return to the mother yet, but yes," informed Sky before jogging down the hallway to catch up with Coraline.
Entering into the kitchen Coraline was already dragging things out of the cupboards as the group entered the kitchen. "It's a poltergeist," exclaimed one of the High Lords guards as he watched a carton of eggs float across the kitchen.
"No it's Coraline," replied Sky packing a set of plates over to the stove. "Would you guys like some early breakfast as well?"
Shaking their heads no, the small grew including Andrew who was turning his head from left to right as he looked at her. "She can move things," asked the High Lord, but by his tone, Sky figured it was more of a rhetorical question.
"Can they all move things," asked Andrew turning his head in such a way that he watch her fully.
Handing Coraline some more ingredients Sky shook her head. "No only the really old ones can. They seem to gain power through peoples belief in them and over the years it strengthens them enough they can move things within this plane of existence. That is what I think anyway."
"So you've always been able to see these spirits," asked Andrew finally taking his eyes off Coraline.
Nodding her head yes Sky fixed herself a glass of water. "As far back as I can remember, but I'm kind of jealous you get to see them in color."
"If they are souls then why have they not returned to the mother," asked the High Lord as he watched Sky meal seemingly prepare itself.
"They each have their own reasons for wanting to stick around be it good or bad," replied Sky. "I don't ask most of them. It feels rude to do so. To be honest I'm so used to them I normally don't pay them any mind. Most of them just want to be left alone to wallow in whatever sorrow keeps them here, and they don't want to be bothered. Then you have the ones who live in your castle who are in your face excited that you can see them. All of the souls that walk around here are supper chatty and some are quite mischievous. It's quite different then I'm used to."
"I have a castle full of dead people," asked the High Lord as his jaw dropped open.
"In your face kind of dead people that have been scaring the shit out of me for three day," complained Andrew rubbing an exhausted hand down his face.
"Oh, I've been asleep that long," asked Sky has her stomach growled at the smell of the cooking sausage.
"Yes you have my Queen," yawned Tanner stumbling into the kitchen with a set of disgruntled twins shuffling in behind him. "I figured this is where you'd be, and is you're breakfast cooking it'self?"
Without being fazed by the sight of the sausage leaving the skillet only to be replaced by eggs the trio sat down. "That doesn't faze you," choked out the one guard who until that movement stood silently against the wall.
Shaking their heads no in unison the twins looked at Tanner who replied, "Nope weird things always happen around Sky. You get used to it."
"What brings you out of bed in the dead of night Lord Kenchen," asked the High Lord as Tanner yawned and stretched again.
Giving himself a good shake Tanner rolled his neck before replying. "It felt like someone kicked my bed, and then I got this feeling I was being yelled at for being a horrible guard. I couldn't go back to sleep because of this feeling so I figured I'd check on Sky. Lo and behold I find no one guarding our Queens door. Worried I rushed in to find her missing and two idiots passed out across the foot of her bed!"
The twins wore hangdog looks as they looked at the floor being smart enough not to meet Tanners dragon red eyes. "We figured we'd wake up if she moved," stated Jerry defensively.
"We were laying on her feet," replied Tommy as if they made things better.
Snarling at the two of them Tanner brought his hand up to smack them but stopped as Andrew shouted and fell out of his chair. Scrambling backward quickly Sky watched him turn his head to the left to look at the man who was now hovering behind Tanner. "That is Mr. Miyamoto Musashi," informed Sky looking between the angry worrier and the terrified one. "He's a bit scary looking when he's anger, just overlook him. I do."
From there Sky ignored the ranting man who drew his two swords and swung them harmlessly threw the twins. The words flowing out of the man's mouth had Coraline yelling at him about being in a lady's presence and code of honor. The next thing he saw was the man getting on the floor quickly apologizing to Sky for his use of foul language. "I haven't seen him before," said Andrew picking himself up out of the floor as Sky sat down to eat her food.
"That's because he only hangs around Tanner."
Smiling Tanner nodded. "He's my personal Ronin, or so I'm told. I've never seen him so I don't know."
"You know about the spirits," asked the High Lord not knowing how to deal with any of this.
"Do we know Sky sees dead people? Yes. Do we tell people? No. She's got enough on her plate to label her a freak without us saying that she see people who aren't there. I mean come on she just delivered a soul to the fire temple not to long ago," stated Tanner with a look that said Duh.
"On top of that, the entire Fafnir army watched her call millions of souls to there pool of origins a couple of months ago. That was unnerving. I like not seeing them personally," said Jerry as he shuddered.
"True but it helped us out when she found the dead army in that one city so seeing them has its advantages," said Tommy putting in his two cents.
"A dead Army," asked High Lord sitting up a little straighter in his chair.
Yawning with a belly full of food Sky left the group as they talked about the walking dead. Silently the twins fell in line behind her as they followed her back to her room. Taking up their posts at the door they closed the door behind her as she entered. Shucking her close onto the floor Sky flopped onto the bed before passing out.
When morning came April shock her awake and dressed her hurriedly for her classes. Dragging her feet the time seemed to crawl until they went to meet her Social Studies teacher again. Giving him the report of what she'd done at the stables he instructed her to go find someone tending to animals like a chicken or a sheep. She was to learn how to care for that animal. Thinking about it Sky smiled again and ran for the stables again. Finding Molly cleaning out more stalls again Sky pulled the pitchfork from her hands. Pulling her out of the stall Sky walked over to a set of boys who were watching Molly clean through the bars. Thrusting the pitchfork into one of the guy's chest Sky growled at him. "You will do her job until she is done teaching me. I expect you to do a better job cleaning then I did the other day," snapped Sky before dragging a confused Molly out of the barn they were in.
Pulling her through the back gate to the small pins the stallions were held in Sky came to a stop at Rakesh's paddock. Waving at the horse Sky turned toward the terribly shy woman, "Okay teach me how to care for a horse."
Looking from the horse and back toward where the stables were behind the wall Molly fiddled with her fingers. Looking at the ground she moved her feet nervously, "Um… first um… we need to…um…go back and get a umm… halter and a um… lead rope," whispered Molly nervously.
"Okay, why do we need those," asked Sky not really wanting to walk all the way back to the barns.
"Because um…so that um.. we need to lead him to the um… barn," stammered Molly.
"She doesn't want him to run away," informed April. "The halter is the thing that goes around the face and the lead is the rope that it clicks to."
"Oh," said Sky as the light went on in her head. "We don't need those things. We'll get them next time," informed Sky opening the gate for Rakesh to walk throw. "Okay, Rakesh lets go to the barn."
Molly stood there shocked as the stallion walked behind Sky rubbing his head on her back as they went. Without incident, the horse followed her all the way to the barn in which they tended the horses on his own. Standing perfectly still near one of the hitching posts all of the workers stopped to stare in wonder at the sight in front of them. Standing there frozen for a moment in utter shock Molly shook her head when Sky asked, "Okay now what?"
Rushing off for the halter, Molly quickly brought it back and placed it over his head. After snapping the line from the hitching post to his halter Molly rushed off again. This time she packed back a box full of stuff. Pulling each thing out she explained what they all were in her mouse-like voice. After that, she showed Sky how to use each one of them. Before long Rakesh was brushed from nose to rump with his main and tail nicely pleated. Why? Because he was being attended to by a bunch of girls who wanted him to look pretty. Instead of putting him back into the paddock, they had pulled him from, Molly's grandfather had instructed her to put him in a stall and give Abigail's Thunder a bath. New horse in hand Molly instructed Sky and her friends on how to bath a horse. Figuring things would be as simple as brushing a horse Molly was sadly mistaken. She was beginning to realize water dragons loved water, and if water was involved everything was getting wet. Looking like a set of horsehair covered drown rat's, Molly led the woman to a field in which Abigail would be released to dry off in the hot sun. Watching the filly buck and kick as she ran across the low scrub grass field Molly's eyes landed on a mare who was laying down. From the distance they were standing it looked like their fat draft horse Totarow. It wasn't strange for horses to lay down on the ground flat on their sides even if it was rare. What was strange and what had caught her eye was Totarow's back leg was up in the air straight out like she was dead.
Not liking the sight at all Molly rushed through the field as fast as her little feet could carry her. "Molly, where's the fire," asked Sky seemly jogging effortlessly beside her.
Not having the oxygen to spare Molly simply pointed toward the fat spotted draft in front of her. Once they got close enough Molly could hear the horse grunting loudly as her breathing was labored. Running her hand through the sweat-dampened coat Molly feared for the horses health. "What's wrong girl," asked Molly in a normal toned voice before placing her ear to the horse's stomach. "Does your belly hurt?"
Looking at each other April and Alivia shrugged before looking at Sky. Glowing blue eyes took in the horse and the girl before saying, "Horses don't lay eggs do they."
"No it's a live birth," said Molly probing the horse's stomach as it seemed to contracted violently.
"It is like deer," asked Sky turning her attention toward the horse's tail. "Like the baby is supposed to come out head first?"
Stopping her examination of the horse to stare up at Sky and her odd line of questioning, Molly followed her gaze toward the horses rump. "Yes, why?"
"Is it bad if it's backward?"
Sky could see the gears working within Molly's head as she looked from the horse's tail to her, and back toward the fat bulbous belly. In one soothe movement Molly was instantly on her knees behind the horse with her arm buried almost up to her shoulder. "Oh now that is nasty," informed Alivia.
"Give me a hand," asked Molly clearly as she looked at Sky.
"You know I've had a hand shoved up my lady bits, and I really didn't like it. I'd rather not do that to someone else," stated Sky shaking her head no.
Laughing, and truly laughing loudly Molly shock her head, "You don't have to put your hands where mine are. I just need your help pulling or she'll die."
"Oh! That I can do," informed Sky jumping behind Molly.
Rapping her arms around Molly's tiny frame Sky held her tightly as she instructed, "Pull when I say pull."
Each time the horse's stomach tightened Molly would give the order and Sky and her would pull. Several long moments later two back feet here hanging out of the draft mare. "Grab its feet and we'll pull that way," instructed Molly as all four women got their hands dirty bring in this big baby into the world. Butt's planted firmly on the ground and feet against the horse's rump the women pulled in rhythm like they were rowing a boat. By the time the baby slid out into their laps they were all covered in sweat. Sky and Molly's now dry clothes were now wet again as the mother's life-giving fluid covered them. Pulling the babies head out of the sack-like thing that covered it Molly sucked something out of its nose before spitting it out. "Oh I think I'm going to barf," gagged April hurrying a safe distance away before gagging loudly.
Watching Molly trying to get the baby to breathe Sky watched the Momma take her last breath. She had watched as the mooring lines snapped and the mother trying her hardest to bring her baby into the world. Lovingly giving the mother one last pet she whispered, "Your daughter is alive and well," as the baby sucked in it's first breath of air.
"My Queen," shouted Tanner as a large group of men raced toward them.
Turning Alivia waved at them as a sign that everything was okay. Watching them slow their pace a little Sky looked up at the sun to see that she was again late for Fine Arts class. Groan Sky turned her attention back to the little life that had held it for so long. One big but yet tiny little legs the baby struggled to its feet. Molly's joyful eyes turned sad instantly as she looked back at the mother. "Oh no," gasped Molly jumping to her feet and rushing to the mother's chest. "She left as soon as her daughter was out," informed Sky. "She's already with the mother of us all."
"But the baby is out," cried Molly heartbroken they weren't fast enough.
Embracing Molly tightly Sky turned her way from the dead mare as sorrow filled her. Not only for losing the horse but a more deep-rooted sorrow. The little filly would struggle to survive on its own without its mother as she had struggled on her own. The baby was now alone in a world where no one cared about draft horses. A world where no one would take the time see to its needs because it wasn't a pureblood in a land where purebreds reigned supreme. "Oh come on now," said Sky holding her tightly as she wept against her shoulder. "That little one has you, and us. I'll help all I can and we'll make sure the little one grows up fat and happy. We did everything we could do. You didn't know she was pregnant, you can't blame yourself for not being here faster. Just think what would have happened if we hadn't shown up. Then we wouldn't have that pretty baby blue roan spotted horse. I think that's roan maybe it's a blue-grey. I don't know it's kind of covered in that yellow and red stuff."
Signing as Molly continued to cry Sky turned to see Molly's grandfathers sad expression as several farmhands looked at the baby in shock. Tanner was cringing at the sight of her and Molly. The twins stood there tensely as they watched Molly crying with their dragon eyes. They acted like they were uncomfortable and unsure of what to do. Inside of them were memories of people crying for many different reasons from sadness to anger. Frowning at them both twins instantly turned their eyes to the ground as if they'd done something wrong before looking back up at Molly.
Curious, thought Sky as she continued to watch the twins who watched Molly with angry dragon eyes. "Come now Molly," cooed her grandfather pulling Molly out Sky's grip. "You're getting snot all over the Queens shirt."
"Snot is the least of her problems," snorted Tanner now able to see the full extent of todays wardrobe damage.
Walking Molly away from the dead mare her grandfather began leading her back toward the castle. Turning all the farmhands went along with them ignoring the little baby who was sniffing her mother probably trying to find her first meal. Glaring at all of the useless fire dragons Sky marched over to the huge baby. "What are you doing," asked Tanner when Sky tried to pick up the baby that had to weigh well over two hundred pounds.
"Taking her with us. We can't leave her here," grunted Sky as she managed to get two of the four feet off of the ground.
"It's a draft horse," said Tanner with a look that instantly infuriated Sky.
Without thought, a wave of power shot off Sky throwing Tanner back so fast and hard his boots remained in place, but his body didn't. Within seconds he careened into the farmhands who were walking away from them as if the newborn baby was no more worthwhile then a pile of poop. "We got it," said the twins together as the gently pushed Sky out of the way.
With one arm tucked under the front and the other tucked under the belly the twins began to packed the foal home together. Without lending a hand Sky walked passed the pile of bodies that groaned in pain. "Tanner that was dumb," snapped Alivia kicking him in the hip as she passed.
"You're heartless," added April kicking him in the shin with her boot causing him to yelp in pain as he cradled the appendage.
By the time they made it back to the castle the High Lord, her Social Studies teacher, and her Fine Arts teacher were making their way toward the stables with worried expressions. Watching the twins pass by packing the wiggling baby with bemused expression the three men looked at the rest of the group. Watching their eyebrows raise even higher as they settled on the straggler's Sky knew they were wondering why the rest of them were limping, or maybe why Molly was crying. From what she saw inside them it was the first option and of course, she didn't care one bit. "What happened," asked the High Lord taking in Sky's appearance fully now that she was in front of him.
"We delivered a baby," beamed Sky super excited as the ground began to glow slightly. "Did you see her? Isn't she pretty!"
"She was a very big and pretty, spotted draft horse," replied the High Lord as the glow began to grow brighter.
"Where is the mother," asked the Grounds Keeper slash teacher looking behind the group expecting her to be lead up as some point.
Sky's glow faded quickly as her happy expression turned sad. "She died right after given birth."
"That filly was huge. It's no wonder she died. Let me guess you helped pull it," asked the Grounds Keeper.
"I did, but I want to know why no one cares about it," growled Sky.
"I'm sure everyone is proud of you my Queen and would say so if they didn't look so beat up," stated the High Lord quickly thinking they had offended her.
"What? No! I want to know why no one cares about the baby! They all could care less if it dies," roared Sky in such anger the ground quaked with it.
Instantly everyone froze and looked at her as the castle grounds went deathly silent. Turning his attention from the angry blue eyes toward the group who looked like she'd beat them with her anger already the High Lord stated, "I'm sure they care my Queen."
Spreading his feet wider as the ground began to quake again the High Lord tried to maintain his footing as Sky snarled. "No, they don't. They walked away without a care in the world and memories of dying babies within their snake. They've done it before. They've walked away from a baby in need to leave it to starve to death!"
Tumbling forward the High Lord remained on his knees as he watched flames lick at the ground around him. "I apologize for the heartless ways of my staff. I promise you, my Queen, that every single one of those men will personally take care of that baby. No baby will suffer again in the ways in which you saw within my staff. I vow to you that if that baby fails to thrive then so shall every single one of them. Please accept my humblest apologies."
With that, the High Lord bowed completely to the ground as her teachers attempted to bow lower, but the ground was in the way. Growling Sky looked down at the three bodies in front of her. The High Lord was sincere in his words and the groundskeeper agreed with the High Lord's verdict. The Fine Art's teacher on the other had was internally appalled at Sky's anger. He felt that all impure things should put out of their memories. "Anthony stop thinking," roared Tanner as Sky's ire focused down on him and the knocking sound rattled out of her chest.
It was too late he'd already sealed his fate. Picking up the instructor by the throat Sky and her dragon lifted him off of the ground. The air vibrated with the strange knocking, clicking like sounds that had everyone's dragons shaking inside of them. Disgusted by what she'd seen within the Fine Arts teacher she threw him away like the trash he was. Screaming out as he soared through the air the Regent Commander froze throwing his arms up to brace for the impact. What he didn't know was that it was unneeded because the body disintegrated into ash seconds before colliding with him. Watching the man spit and sputter Shelby looked at Sky quizzically. "You know my Queen if you really didn't want to take Fine Art's you could have just said something. We would have canceled the class for you. Oh now isn't that a pretty baby."
Growling Sky's dragon swiveled her ears toward Shelby as she watched him cautiously. Making his way over toward the newborn who was being held tightly by two very upset dragons he inspected it thoroughly. "For a newborn, she's built solidly. Look at her conformation," gushed Shelby prying the twin's arms off so the little one could stand on her own. "Her color is rare too for a spotted draft. Who was the sire? I'd keep pairing those two if I was you, Ian."
"The mare died," replied the High Lord with his face still in the dirt.
"Ah well, that sucks. Welp, at least she left a beautiful daughter behind. I guess we'll have to ask around to see if anyone has a mare whose baby didn't make it. Until then my Queen would you like to try to bottle feed her," asked Shelby as the foal suckled on the finger he offered her.
"Really," asked Sky as her flames poofed out of existence. "I'd love to! What are we going to feed her?"
"Goats milk, for now, it's higher in fat, come on," said Shelby picking the baby up and packing her away.
Watching the dragon settle back into her skin Sky bounce away asking Shelby a million questions. The weight of the world lifted as the twins dropped backward calming their fears. "What was that power," asked Molly who was safely tucked into her grandfather's arms.
"Angry Sky dragon," groaned Tanner pushing himself out of the dirt.
"How stupid are you," snapped Jerry sitting up quickly.
"You know babies are a soar spot. This probably wouldn't have happened if you hadn't pushed it," added Tom.
Brushing the dirt off of himself Tanner rolled his shoulders. "Oh no, it would have been worse because that baby would have died and Sky would have burnt the entire barn down. It was a push in the right direction for her to ask for help and solve a major problem we all know fire dragons have. Dude, she threw me hard," complained Tanner beginning to stretch. "I knew something like this would happen at least it happened here. I think she broke a rib." Poking at a tinder spot Tanner turned to look at his father who was currently brushing ashes off of himself. "Now as for Anthony's untimely demise that was on him. I could see her dragons focus on him. I don't know what she saw but it had to be bad for her to pick him up. She shuffled through his head to. I saw the drop of blood come out of his nose before she threw him. Sorry about that dad. It was slightly bad timing on my part. Then again I didn't know she was going to throw him."
"I'm glad you told me to grab Shelby," said Rowan giving up and ridding his body of ash. "He calmed her down pretty quickly."
Rubbing the back of his head Tanner shrugged, "He's always had a knack for it. He's second-best only to the King."
Out of nowhere, April exploded, "You pissed her off on purpose!"
Looking down at her from where she still lay in the puddle he grinned at her and said, "Yep."
Snarling April launched herself at Tanner as her dragon exploded out of her in anger. Tanner danced around her effortlessly as she attempted to pummel him. He knew she wasn't really angry at him but angrier that Sky was angry, to begin with. Out of everyone here, he was the safest to try to release her anger on that had probably be fed to her through the bond she had with Sky.
Sky hummed to herself as she helped Shelby clean up the little white and grey-blue filly. A farmhand was off to collect some goats milk and a bottle. Dipping the rag back into the warm bucket of water Sky's dragon roared to the surface again as a loud barking filled the barnyard. Instantly on her feet and running Sky found April being held to the ground by Tanner. Furious with him already her anger spiked to a new level as April's dragon continued to bark out in distress. "Tanner move," shouted Alivia shoving him off April seconds before Sky appeared right beside them.
Letting out a bark of his own, Tanner's dragon covered his body seconds before a flamed covered foot slammed into the arm they'd used to block the blow. Sky was beyond mad and Tanner feared for his life. Currently, he felt like Sky when he was told to make the swords sing. Blue and red flames danced all around them as he blocked or deflected Sky's blows all while trying to avoid her killer claws. On occasion when he wasn't fast enough he would cringe at the screeching sound they made or the light burn they left behind on his scales. Out of all of the King's Guards, he was the fastest, but speed only lasted so long against an enemy who adapted quickly. Intelligence was something Sky had in spades and she could use it on the fly. It was like her brain always worked on multiple levels and before long she landed a good kick that had him spread out on the ground. Balling up on himself to protect the soft belly the fall had exposed something blue slammed into him "Sky stop," shouted April right in Tanner's ear.
Tanner could feel April shaking in fear above him or maybe he was causing the shaking as Sky's elk like roar shook the world around them. "It was my fault I got hurt," continued April after the world stopped shaking.
Tanner didn't know what was worse, everyone seeing his tiny Queen kick his ass or him being protected by a water dragon of all things. "No one hurts what is mine," roared Sky.
"I hurt myself because I was being dumb and emotional," replied April to Tanner's forehead.
"He held you down while she barked in pain," snarled Sky from somewhere behind them.
"Because if I moved I'd rip my wing more on whatever had caught it. It's all my fault. I was off-balanced and instead of stopping to figure out why I just kept on trying to punch him in the face," shouted April before whimpering a little bit as she moved her damaged appendage inadvertently because she didn't know how to control them.
Feeling a hand rubbing something Aprils brain wasn't sure what it was yet she screamed out in pain. Rapping his arms around the brave water dragon who was shielding him with her body, Tanner cringed. He was sure his ear would be bleeding after this, but he'd take that trade-off for his life. Breathing like she'd just ran a marathon April looked behind her at the sound of something heavy hitting the ground. Not able to see past the blue leathery wing April pushed herself up to see Sky crouched right beside them. At her feet lay Rowan and by the looks, he was out cold or possibly dead. April watched as the wing extended down shielding Tanners form Sky's glare. "You know you're healing power hurts really, really bad," said April giving Sky a fake smile.
"You have wings and horns," replied Sky in a gravelly voice still raw with anger.
"I hadn't noticed," joked April nervous that Sky was still going to try to kill Tanner.
Huffing Sky pushed herself to her feel grumbling something about stupid dragons and something about poking basilisk with sticks and then she passed out.
