Chapter 5: Pained Memories

The sheets clung to her, the world her mind had been in had cost her energy and sleep still had its grasp deeply on her as her alarm rang on. Once again she found herself laying on the island yet aware of the dream she had entered. She looked around at the corpse infested synthetic island and was lost to the sight of it, the giant looming person -looking closer she realised it was actually a women- that had nearly crushed her the first time she was here. She was still roaming around the lands; Menglo glanced at her shadow, it seemed to silently speak to her yet she understood every word. She stood and faced the giant figure, well it's leg at least and touched it and she felt a surge inside. Her body hurt like hell as it elongated and grew nearly twice the giants size. The world below looked like dots, she felt as though she could destroy villages without knowing. This power to take specials. This was her power. This was her special.

"Having fun?" called out a muffled voice

"So this is your power?" replied Menglo

"It's Our power now" Azura remarked

She shrunk back with relatively no pain and heard a faint sound of sirens, but the was no police here nor any warning alarms. It then occurred to her that it was reality calling her back to the world of the awake. Her alarm. That was a dream? She opened her eyes and was instantly welcomed by by Satan's face itself in the form of her mum.

"AND WHAT TIME DO YOU CALL THIS! GET UP NOW!" commanded her mum.

Without uttering a word she stood and dressed herself preparing for being over an hour late to school both mentally and physically... this was not gonna end well for her at all. As per usual she cleansed herself of filth and threw on whatever clothing she could find laying about the room; had someone placed a clown suit in there, she'd have worn that none the wiser. She backed her scolding tea and scoffed down the brick or burned bread probably hard enough to withstand falling concrete; she picked up her pre-packed bag and dashed out the front door and back into the world of the specials. Like a few others she took the bus where others could simply fly/run/teleport and many other forms of travel. She past all manners of buildings and skyscrapers designed to the advantages of those with different abilities such as climb-in doors for those who can somehow go up walls and platforms for those with flying/gliding/jumping capabilities.

"Envious are we?" teased Azura.

"Of what?? I don't want those useless abilities!" quickly replied Menglo attempting to avoid the question.

"suuure you don't" mocked Azura making sure her sarcasm was noticed. Menglo simply avoided the thought of it any further.

Walking down the street she found herself looking to the past; she was the youngest in her class and so they would acquire their specials first. She thought of her friends gaining specials that allowed them to fly through the air, dig through the earth, pierce minds and objects mentally and physically; and then her thoughts rested on her best friend - her ex best friend to be precise. She was a prodigy, her elemental special was unrivalled; she had the ability to control wind, fire, earth, lightning and water but that hadn't had an affect on their friendship but, what did was her 16th birthday, the day all specials awaken their powers. She - Emilia - had slept over the previous night keen on seeing what special Menglo would obtain unaware that nothing but a powerless insignia awaited. The next night at the moment a person's insignia is awoken their power will reveal itself to those around them... uncontrollably - many many precautions are taken to prevent explosions and any other types of damage. The 16th birthday was also a ceremony of age and had a modern tradition where only non-blood relatives or friends could be present and her father wasn't around so only her friends could attend the ceremony - only her friends would know.

"You ready to see the awesome majestic power you hold????" gloated Emilia

"Ready as ever.." attempting to sound enthusiastic but without success.

The day was normal like any other birthday that preceded it until midnight when the ceremony started due to the iconic light the shone from her chest the colour would determine her innate element - red for fire, brown for earth, dark blue for water, green for nature and various mixes for the other types.- but Menglo showed not one, not two, not even three but all colors imaginable reds, greens, browns, blues, greys blacks etc. It was beautiful to say the least Emilia thought so to and was overjoyed by the power her best friend would obtain but also scared for the explosive power awaiting in a few seconds so naturally everyone ran for their lives. But nothing happened. Menglo simply fainted... Is what she thought.

The next morning she awoke to find her friends injured including her friend and assumed it was her power, but realised what happened had no meaning her power had only created a riptide across her body of symbols and tribal shapes, like a tattoo but more vivid as if her skin itself was meant to be that way. Menglo sat there looking at her insignia but, well what she could see of it parts entangled all around her chest partially greeting her back only by a little. Her friends awoke in fear not from the injuries sustained, that much they expected, but from something far more sinister than any physical pain. They merely stared at her including her bes.. ex best friend; all unwilling to utter a word no matter how much she questioned them on the ceremonies events, anytime she neared they'd move in the opposed direction making sure not to make any contact of any form almost frightened by it.

The moment their parents arrived they spoke one word each starting from the youngest; she was short, but didn't give of weak aura and was wielding the very power of strength itself she could crush a car thinner than a car compactor ever could, she had a very mundane appearance that didn't have any peculiar features her hair was short stubby brown as were her eyes her skin a mixed cream and nails undone. She muttered "monster" the second was a girl that was practically opposite being tall with black hair slightly dyed blue her eyes a unusual burgundy red in contrast to snow skin with the power of ice to match it - Menglo considered her partially demon in her head (as a joke) but never spoke it. She said without out a glimpse or remorse "abomination". And finally was her now ex best friend Emily, she confused Menglo the most as her words wasn't anything like the others. What she said was "...queen" the first part was unclear but "queen?" why had she said that? She would contemplate constantly without a clear answer. After that they never spoke nor heard of each other again as if they up and moved sectors.
