Chapter 3 Green world

Vlad stood on the green beaches before a green sea.

Vlad decided to personally go dawn this time as he prepares to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Unfortunately once he arrives on the ground it's quite different from what he has expected, while the planet has an atmosphere primarily compromise of hydrogen and nitrogen but it lacks oxygen to support human life.

While the absence of oxygen may not necessarily mean the lack of life as certain "alien" species in Final Frontier breath other gases besides oxygen and some are actually toxic to them.

Vlad knelt dawn to grab a hand full of green sand he grab a hand full of the stuff and examine it.

It didn't talk long before the scan finally showed Vlad what the green powder is.

'it's rust' Vlad thought disappointingly

Yea it's actually rust!

Unknown to most people the reason rust is red because of oxygen, if we place metal in an oxygen-deprived environment then rust will turn green.

That is to say this world is covered entirely in rust and even the ocean is filled with rust.

Vlad seemingly discontent sent out a swam of scout drone around the whole planet to see if there life.

A few days later

Zero

Vlad tapped on the desk frustrated at the results.

45% land 55% water from the each and every corner of the land to the deep green sea below Zero life has been detected.

No intelligent life, no complex life, no single cell life!

Vlad sighs his frustration. still it's not all that bad, with a functioning atmosphere and an abundance of liquid water this place could quite easily be terraformed.

Vlad then looks through all the module components and hastily assembles one that is perfect for this world.

It took awhile but Vlad eventually assembled a seed module perfect for this world.

Besides all the usual stuff of mining and expanding he attached a bio-lab to the seed module. Its purpose is to release fast-growing plankton that is optimized to multiply and produce oxygen.

Most people didn't know this but most of the Oxygen on earth is not produced on land but in the sea by.... these little guys (planktons).

Vlad goes through the selection of planktons on the gene data banks on the ship before selecting a few variants to be placed in the module to be released upon landing.

Up to 85% of all the oxygen on earth is produced by planktons (author's little rant so all that crap about not cutting dawn tress is bull crap as to solve global warming one must look at the sea which covers 70% of the earth and produces 85% of the oxygen!)

The bio-lab also serves to clone various plants and animals on its data banks once the environment is terraformed enough.

Various animals such ranging from earthworms to vary large animals such as cattle.

Vlad only added a narrow range of animals and excluded animals that he considers as pests or annoyance.

Most of the predatory animals are excluded as Vlad expects his cattle population to be managed by droid servants.

Various other animals that are crucial to a functioning ecosystem underwent modifications to be more harmless such as bees Bees which has had their stinger removed and is optimised for pollinating and producing honey.

Of course Vlad made sure to not pests like rats, mice, roaches and mosquitoes to be added.

Those creatures are unneeded for the world he's trying to build.

Vlad didn't touch the sea for now as planktons are quite crucial in the quick terraforming of the planet as most non-predatory sea creatures eat planktons to survive.

While animals would be added at later stages of the terraforming process, Vlad wants to play it safe and decided to personally add them when the time comes.

Looking at this world as a whole this world shows great promise, Vlad plans to makes it a something akin to a paradise so thus Vlad name this world Arcadia.

This place will be his little garden world and it would be just fantastic, it would be responsible for producing natural agricultural products which is highly sought after by non-player human NPCs back in Final Frontier.

While Vlad doesn't have the exporting of agricultural products in mind, as whose he gonna export it to? Alien?

It's highly unlikely that aliens would have the same digestive system as a human does. No! this world is primarily made to satisfy his own ego, I mean who wouldn't want to play god and terraform a word as they desires?

Speaking of Paradise Vlad remembers watching an old thought provoking "TV" show from the twentieth century called the twilight zone.

'ha "TV"... Television those things has not been used since the 22nd century' Vlad thought

In a particular episode there was this town call Evergreen where everyone is just abnormally nice there they turn all the bad people into fertilizers. The people would then use the fertilizer to grow a tree, then the inhabitants of the town pretends the deceased have been reborn into the tree and became a good person.

It was really thought-provoking and quite memorable. (definitely should watch I think it was the titled Evergreen and is the first episode of the rebooted series, like even the in original series if people can just pass it's black and white it generally really does tell a thought-provoking definitely NOT traumatic story😏)

Whenever somebody mentions the word Paradise, Utopia or some perfect society Vlad would always remember that particular episode of an antique show of a seemingly perfect town.

Anyway, the next few days Vlad scans the system for anything interesting, unfortunately nothing of interest came up so Vlad sent few more seed modules to Acadia to help speed up the process a bit before hopping out of system, starting his never ending quest all over again this time he is hopeful to find a true gaia world.
