Damsel in distress - part 1

She stayed in the inn for two days, spending most of the time in her room. Food was provided to her room every three times a day.

Occassionally when she would get bored of staying inside, so she would lock her room door and go out for a short walk. Making sure only to wander around near the inn and not to go anywhere too far as she was not yet completely familiar with the place and was scared of getting lost.

Two days had passed and she was still not yet fully adjusted to the new environment. Everything here was different from her native village. Settling down wasn't as easy as she had believed at first.

Myra was getting ready in her room. It was time to check out of the room and head to the employment cell. She was hoping to have a new job by the end of the day.

She was brushing her long brown hair when she heard someone knocking the room door. Wondering who it might be, she placed the comb on the mirror stand and tired her hair up loosely before opening the door.

The innkeeper lady was standing by the door.

"You have thirty minutes to vacate this room" she said rather too rudely. "If you wish to stay longer, pay more".

Myra didn't like the tone she had used while talking to her. It reminded her of her Aunt Lyla. "I'll be checking out soon" she stated.

The women glared at her for a second and then nodded before walking away. Sighing Myra shut the door.

Packing her bag, she looked around the room for one last time checking if she had left anything behind. Taking a moment, she prayed the universe to give her a job by the end of the day. If she is not able to find one today then she will probably become homeless and come down to streets.

That very thought itself made her feel scared. She had come this far, trying to be independent and now she was mentally freaking out.

Dropping the bag on the floor, she sat on the bed. placing her hand on her chest, she patted it thrice saying "Calm down Myra, Everything will be fine"

Inhaling and Exhaling a couple of times to calm herself down, she stood up from the bed and pulled out her belongings from her bag.

She had brought the Viol bottle which Beth had given her years ago, along with her. Pulling it out, she stared at it.

Her gut feeling, told her that she needed to keep it close to her, maybe like a lucky charm. Instead of keeping it back inside the bag she placed it inside her dress pocket along with her father's pocket watch.

She had only twenty six silver coins left now, if her employer doesn't not provide her with a stay facility then she will have to spend it on renting out a place nearby. Her spendings were way more than she had expected and at this rate survival would become difficult if she didn't find a proper work by the end of the day.

She continued motivating herself that everything would be alright even though her instincts were telling a different story. She packed her bag once again and left the room.

After handing over the keys at the reception desk, she made her way towards the employment cell which was just five minute walk from the Inn she was staying at.

It was around ten in the morning and the employment office was not that crowded as it had been two days ago.

Finding the officer who had given her the application, she went over to him. "Excuse me sir"

"Yes" said the ori-blooded vampire man who was sitting behind his desk verifying a document, lifting his head to look at her. He had a pale red eyes and his face had a stern look. The imperial moustache he had above his upper lip made him look strict.

"I had filled an application for work two days ago and you had told me to come here today" she said.

The vampire nodded and motioned her to be seated on the chair, which was next to her and she sat down.

The vampire then instead of responding to her queries continued with the verification work he had been doing before, as if there was nobody seated in front of him.

Myra waited for him to finish his work patiently, fidgeting her hands while trying to hold herself back from disturbing him by asking him questions about her work. She felt that he wouldn't take it well if she interrupted him while he was working.

Finally after what seemed like ages to her, the vampire man closed the file he had been reading and lifted his head up again to look at her.

"You were saying?" he asked focusing his attention on her by placing both his hands on the desk, slightly leaning forward.

"Sir, two days ago I filled a job application here and you told me to come by today" said Myra nervously.

"your name?" he asked, leaning back on his chair, searching for something from his table drawer.

Pulling out a brown coloured file, he opened it to hear her say, "Amyra Brooke".

He flipped the pages searching for her name in it.

"There is a vacancy for a maid's post at the Swanson's household" he informed "There is another vacancy for you to be a saleswoman at the Hutton's shoe store"

She nodded and the officer continued to say, "You get to decide where you want to work at. But first you will need to talk to both the owners and discuss the details with them. If they are okay with you and you agree to work for them, then you can start working for the family right a way".

"Sir, how can I meet the owners? And before I go and meet anybody, I would like to have a little bit information about both the families" she said "you see, I am completely new here and it would be helpful if I know what I am getting into".

"The Swanson's are the Trueborn demon family, who are quiet affluent. Mr. Swanson is a high standing official in the Ministry of public welfare and is related to the Arcadian Lord" stated the officer. "The Hutton's on the other hand are the pureblooded vampire family with a long chain of cloth and shoe business all over the land of Arcadia"

Myra stayed silent processing the information. Mentally questioning herself which family to prefer working at.

"I'll give you both their addresses so that you can meet both the owners and then decide" said the vampire officer.

He wrote down the information in a sheet of paper and handed it to her. Thanking him she headed out deciding to meet the Hutton's first and then visit the Swanson's.
