"When I was a kid, no one played with me either, so I liked to do silly things, like carving flowers out of carrots," Zachary Santos laughed, "It was just a way to pass the time."
"I didn't have anyone to play with during my childhood either," Ann Nolan said with a wan smile.
She lost her parents when she was very young, and her grandfather was busy with his business.
Grandfather Santos was afraid she'd get into trouble, so he didn't really let her go out to play. She had no choice but to stay at home, read books, practice the piano, cook, and occasionally imagine a family life while hugging a cloth doll.
Her childhood was quite lonely, but it did cultivate a good habit of loving books.
However, apart from reading, she seemed to have no other merits.
The liveliness or charm seen in other girls, she didn't have any of it.
