The date of the release of their new album was finally announced. It had 15 songs. They would be releasing the album in the month of may. To be exact, 15 May 2008. YG had decided to use a Youtube as a medium to release M/Vs. Thus, A channel for 2ne1 was created alongside BIGBANG and YG ENTERTAINMENT. They would release a M/V for two of their songs. The Intro of their new album was a solo by So-Young and the outro was a solo by Bom. Their new album had a link to their previous album.
After a long discussion about their ideas for the new album with the CEO, they finally were allowed to do what they wanted.... again. The girls came up with the idea of connecting all their albums to one another. There would be subtle references to the previous albums. It would be a story of their lives.
Knowing their creative abilities, YG gave them full freedom with what they wanted to do. The conditions were the same. A deadline would be given, if what they presented to the agency was not up to their expectation, the girls would let the company decide their concept. It was a fair deal, none of the sides would face a loss. It would also allow them to gain further freedom. Although, after the sucess of their first album(which they wrote themselves), they were given more power over what they wore and how they wanted to wear the mask of an 'idol'.
The origional 2ne1(The one from so-young's past life) was a emo/cool kind of girl group. It was what set them apart from the other cutesy girl groups that saturated the market. So-Young wanted their group to develop towards that path. She wanted them to be the depiction of the world 'power' and 'independant'.
Their new album was completely different from the songs made by other groups. No one knew of EDM at this point of time. The market was full of the pop/rock genre. BIGBANG was a breath of fresh air with their hiphop style and swag. So-Young knew that EDM would be really popular in the future. EDM was widely known for its cool beats and addictive tunes. So-Young encorporated that into the songs in this album. She did not completely make an EDM song as that would throw people off. It was just enough to get people curios and used to this kind of music.
She also wanted to target the older age groups. She tried to add in some traditional music into her songs. One of the songs was a ballad that people seemed to enjoy a lot. An advantage that they had was that they did not limit themselves to any genre of music. They were exploring their styles and making tunes that potrayed what they felt. This meant that they would attract different groups of people with different tastes in music. Thus, their fanbase would grow larger.
*FLASHACK*
After So-Young produced the songs, she gave the CD to the girls to listen to. She was exhausted after pulling an all nighter and crashed in the room. The girls knew that So-Young had done something completely different on this album. They put the disc into the player and connected the biggest speaker they owned(which was really small). The four girls huddled around the speaker and wited for the song to start playing.
No one said a word until the CD stopped playing.
Bom: "I think we need to listen to this again...."
All the girls nodded their heads. They replayed the whole album again.
Four hours later, So-Young was woken up by the loud noises made in the living room. She got up, rubbed her eyes and slowly made her way to the living area. The scene before her eyes shocked her. All her eonnis were head banging to the music she made. No joking, the only thing she could see was hair being whipped around their necks at a speed that could kill them.(*cough...this is an exaggeration*). Well, atleast she knew they liked her songs.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
When BLACKJACKs , heard about the release of their new album, they were extremely excited. They knew that all the songs were written by the members of 2ne1. They were all left in awe after they know that the girls wrote the songs themselves. They were also in awe of their ages. The youngest of the group were barely even teenagers. And the most shocking thing was that the leader of the group was the maknae of the group who was almost a decade younger than the oldest member.
These attracted a lot attention to 2ne1. People who were curious about them ended up becoming their fans after listening to their music. Of couse, they faced a lot of hate too. There were people criticising their music, their clothes, their behavior and almost everything. The hate they were getting was only a little lesser than the support. It was hard seeing the hate. There were times when the girls felt particularly down, but they were all there for each other and that made it a little easier to face.
Their company had released dates for their concerts too. It would be in August and end in September. The tickets were to go on sale after the release of their album. They would be on the road for a month. They even had to attend shows and fansign events to promote themselves. The girls had to take care of the new company too. Safe to say, their schedule was jam-packed.
