A chance to change

The next day, Yu Chen woke up rubbing her eyes. She sat on the bed cross-legged for a long time with a grumpy expression. She was really not a morning person now.


Yu Chen finally climbed down from the bed when her stomach grumbled with hunger. She freshened up and saw that there was a note from Xi Hua on the fridge.


It said, 'I'm heading to work. Did not prepare breakfast as I will eat with Zenghai. There are some ingredients in the fridge."


Yu Chen rolled her eyes a d thought, "So my guess was right. Zenghai did spend the night."


Yu Chen crumpled the note and threw it in the bin. She then picked up her phone and saw that there was a message from Si Xia at 6 o'clock. 'Good morning.' It said.


Yu Chen was dumbfounded, "Just how early he wakes up?" She thought as she replied to the message and put on a song.


Then, humming to the song and dancing a little, Yu Chen opened the fridge and whistled. "Now that's some ingredient. I think I'll give my idiots a treat."


Yu Chen thought as she prepared a big breakfast. She searched the cabinets and found some bento boxes. Yu Chen prepared three bentos before sitting down with her own breakfast.


After she had eaten, Yu Chen got up and got ready. She put on a comfortable pair of denim jeans and a pink hoodie. Finally, she completed her look with a grey baseball cap and black sneakers. Yu Chen also put on her headphones as she headed out.


Chen called a cab and went to the hospital where Xi Hua worked. As she got out, Yu Chen whistled, "What a fancy building. I wonder if they will let me have a discount because my friend works here."


Yu Chen went inside and asked where the office for the cardiovascular department. When she went in the department, Yu Chen asked a passing nurse, "Excuse me. Where can I find the intern nurses?"


The nurse was a young woman who looked at Chen with dislike and said, "Some are on duty and some are on break. Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to do."


"I wonder what got her all rattled up." Yu Chen thought as she made her way into the department, hoping to find someone friendly. She met a middle-aged woman in a nurse uniform, she had a friendly face. 


Seeing Yu Chen's lost expression, the woman asked, "Are you here to visit someone?"


Yu Chen: "Well yeah. But not a patient. I'm looking for an intern nurse."


The woman asked, "Who are you looking for?"


The woman smiled, "Oh Hua. She's a good girl. Are you her friend?"


Yu Chen nodded. The woman said, "I'm afraid Hua is on duty right now. You could wait for her."


Yu Chen shook her head and took out a bento box, "I just brought her lunch. Could you give it to her?"


The woman led Chen towards her office, "Of course. Just leave it here. I'll tell Hua once she comes back. Make sure to leave a note."


Yu Chen nodded as she took a piece of paper.
