'Focus I need to focus, ignore the pain for now' Gathering his thoughts and trying to ignore the ever increasing pain he was feeling. Richard set about to do his work.
Creating a mental space was normally a long and arduous task were one would slowly inject mana at a steady pace. On average it would take about four to twelve hours to construct it but Richard guessed he would be lucky if he had even five minutes before his body exploded because of his reckless behavior.
The note of how a spirit stone rapidly increased cultivation coupled with him being unable to sense worldly energy had made him underestimate just how large the amount of energy the grape sized crystal could hold.
Trying his best to lead as much of it as possible towards his head he set about the construction of the mental space. Quickly he found his innate spell and using it as an anchor flushed the energy to be filtered through it.
An innate spell would always be located at the very center of a mental space and with this particular spell being associated with the laws of space it was doubly effective to involve it in this endeavor.
First a separate space that would work as a bridge between his body, spirit and surroundings had to be created. Complex runes started to appear and gather around his body flashing in and out of existence. As the amount increased they started to spin faster and faster around him until only blurry lines of lights could be seen circling around him in a spherical shape.
Dark clouds started to gather in the sky above Richard as loud claps of thunders could be heard in an ever increasing pace. A large golden lightning bolt flung itself towards him but was blocked by an invisible shield above his head and only the loud crackling sound of thunder was left behind. Seemingly angered at this outcome the clouds grew thicker and more menacing.
The lines in a spherical shape around Richard had started to shrink and as the lines gathered together to form a grey sphere that continued to shrink until it temporarily settled itself in between his eyebrows before it flashed softly for a moment before disappearing entirely.
The clouds above stopped to increase as another bolt of lightning more then twice the size of the last one descended before being blocked again. A sharp pain filled Richards ankles at the stormlords heels split along the sides as if cut with a knife. Having blocked something beyond their normal capabilities they had become damaged and as the sharp leather split it had inflicted small cuts along his ankles as blood slowly started to trickle out of his new wounds.
Opening his eyes Richard could clearly see the menacing storm above his head and cursed his bad luck and why the lightning seemed to be specifically targeting him, by the looks of it another bolt would be coming shortly so with gritted teeth and trying to prevent himself from puking blood from pausing his progress he decisively pulled out his last spell scroll to cast maze. Targeting himself with it he flickered out of existence.
Infuriated at having lost its target bolts of lightning in different colors started to devastate the surroundings.
At the same time Richard appeared in complete darkness and spat out a mouthful of blood before continuing his work. Having created the base he now set about to inscribe it with as much knowledge and comprehension he could to strengthen and enlarge it. Noticing that the space was beginning to show signs or tearing he had no choice but to stop and try to funnel the excess energy somewhere else.
Remembering the cultivation manual he tried to move it through the aforementioned meridians but unsurprisingly he was unable to find them, with no clue if he simply was missing them or if the dantians was needed as a connection to utilize or find them. He did the only thing he could think of, to simply channel it throughout his body letting it wreak havoc across every part of his body he tried his best to spread it as evenly as possible as he chucked down the two elixirs of healing.
Eventually the rampaging energy settled down and while his body was sore he had survived with no apparent damage. While it felt like the excess energy had been wasted Richard was sure that his body had now become much more accustomed to this new world then ever before.
Focusing for a moment his mind quickly entered his newly created mental space. Inside of it as a mental projection of himself took shape he surveyed his surroundings and as expected it was completely empty except for a large golden rune could be seen floating at its center.
The most important partner of any wizard was their spell book and inside of it they would depict spells in the form of runes which could then be studied to create copies of the runes inside of the mental space which would allow them to cast the spells by channeling mana into the runes. Their major weakness was that these runes were extremely fragile and not truly created from the wizards own insight or knowledge and thus they would break upon a single use which would lead to a wizard having to study and prepare spells daily while the size of the mental space decided how many spells could be stored at a time.
On average a first tier wizard could only store about five tier one spells per day up to about twenty as they progressed before becoming a second tier wizard. The exception was to create a stable rune which normally would take several months at least while it would take up space of a spell. As a wizard climbed in tiers it became easier and quicker to create stable lower tier spell runes and most wizard would wait until they were two to three tiers above the tier they wished to create a stable rune for since at that point it would only take about a few days to create it.
The strength of a stable rune was that it could be cast forever without fear of breaking, there was also the fact that casting spells cost very little for wizards since they mainly manipulated the surroundings mana to have their desired effect. Because of this lower tiered spells could be cast continuously by a wizard though because of a lack of stable runes this would mostly be done by casting zero tier spells since they did not even require a rune to channel through until reaching the third or fourth tier.
The weakness however of stable runes was that as mentioned they took a long time to create while at the same time preventing the wizard from casting as many spells, the main and permanent weakness however was the simple fact that the stable rune would forever take up a part of the mental space and thus lowered the amount of different spells a wizard could prepare.
Diversity was one of a wizard major advantages and while many focused on only a single school there were thousands of spells that a wizard could choose from while preparing their spells.
Having been a pseudo-ninth tier wizard there were plenty of stable runes up to the sixth tier that he had created before. However since he had not brought his spell book to this world he would only be able to create runes from the spells he had already created stable runes and they would because of his insight into them directly become stable runes upon their creation within his mental space.
His innate spell was already taking a part of the space he had available to him and thus he was only able to create another four runes at the moment.
For now it was probably for the best if he used his innate spell before doing anything else.
