Richards innate spell was one that any wizard worth his or her salt would always learn as quickly as possible to be able to cast it and then most likely never use it ever again. Being born to a long line of conjurers the old hag had been especially proud when that he had learned this particular space since an innate spell was a perfect spell rune and many secrets to the school it was associated could be gleaned from it that was helpful at the creation of spells at any tier.
Find familiar which was his innate spell while being only a first tier spell was one of the most complex and to some degree most useful conjuration spell ever created since it permanently bonded the wizard to another creature that was summoned from its usage. The creature summoned could be almost anything and would become the wizards most trusted companion.
The biggest reason for him casting the rejuvenation spell was his loss of this most loyal companion of his. Vozk who was a greater basilisk had lost his life while defending him from an ambush set up by a dracolich. Summoning a partner that held great strength and was capable of petrifying people with its eyes that held similar power to a sixth tier spell when he was a first tier wizard had granted him great praise and made many wizards think twice before crossing him.
The death of a familiar would greatly wound a wizard both physically and mentally permanently which had led him to be unable to advance to the ninth rank. While it was more then a decade since Vozk had passed away it still saddened him to think of the friend who had followed by his side for almost three-hundred years.
Shaking his head to return from his melancholy, Richard returned his senses to his body. Looking around him he did his best to suppress his urge to escape. The maze spell was a spell that trapped a target in a separate space for at most a day before they were returned to their previous spot. If one struggled against it and had enough mental prowess it was possible to exit earlier but it was said that even a lesser god someone who most mortal spells would not even effect would be trapped for a few minutes within the eight tier spell that was the maze spell.
Right now it was still of great use if the lightning storm was still raging at his previous spot so while his instincts told him to try his best at escaping he had no desire to leave this umbrella of protection until he had fully prepared himself and his spells.
For now it was time to cast this spell of his and with a thought the spell find familiar was invoked. His mind sunk into an endless space filled with an infinite amount of floating balls of light that gave of the appearance of a starry sky.
Reaching out to a few of those closest to him a multitude of emotions flew into him which caught him by surprise, somehow the impression he got was that their mental state was to developed. Normally the creatures before forming a bond would only have the ego of a beast and only after forming a bond would they develop any real sense of self.
While lost in thought a light started to forcefully push it way through the others, once the other lights noticed this brute instead of resisting they seemed to flee in terror at the sight of it. Noticing the commotion of the scrambling lights he focused on the approaching light. He had never heard of a light approaching the wizard on its own before, instead a wizard would slowly inspect lights until a resonance could be felt upon which the spell would be completed.
Because of this it was unknown what type of creature the wizard had bonded with until returning to reality to see what kind of creature would be summoned. Having a light approach him on its own made Richard feel a bit hesitant as deep inside this gave him a bad feeling about his whole situation as if he should simply as quickly as possible end the spell. At the same time another nagging feeling told him that he would regret this choice.
Before he had a chance to make his decision the small ball of light actually initiated contact on its own.
'How can this be! It should be impossible for a creature to realize my presence before the spell is used to put us in contact.' Stumped at the situation Richard could suddenly feel a resonance great enough that even his very sense of self was in danger of being swallowed fearful at what would happen if he hesitated another second he made the split second decision to initiate the bond.
Returning to the dark space a large light ball the size of a bucket had appeared in front of Richard. Lifting his right hand he bit his thumb so that a bit of blood appeared before leaving a thumb print in blood on the light ball. A barely audible crack could be heard as cracks ran across it before a small kitten in pure white fell down from within it.
Looking at it, it looked close to new born and on its forehead a golden symbol that held the meaning of king in this world could be seen briefly before it dimmed and then disappeared.
'Have I summoned the king of cats?' Having no other choice he could do little else but finish the last step.
"I Richard Ozith Voidscribe keeper of the grey tower, protector of the lost march and lord of the Voidscribe family invoke upon my true name Brag'dronned the heartseeker, only son of the Beast Queen, that a pact between wizard and familiar should be made between us from this day and onward." Upon saying the last words complex runes started to glow across Richard body, small strings of light stretched out from them and upon connecting to the kitten a grin appeared across its face.
'I Bai Bai savior of the great forest, defender of the delicious milk, most beautiful in all existence, the one who answered the foolish mortals call, the bringer of doom and destruction...' While the kitten mewled on and on it was translated directly into words inside of Richards mind. While his introduction had been a bit pompous at first to showcase his previous status this little cat just bragged on and on while making up stuff as it went. Just as Richard felt as if he was about to pop a vein it finally finished.
'Invoke upon my true name Hu Zhao the wild, one of the Bai Hu, that the pact between us from this day and onward is acceptable' After the last mewling was finished the same runes that had appeared on Richard appeared on the kitten called Bai Bai after which a bright light surrounded the two for a few seconds before the two were left alone in the darkness.
Roughly massaging his temples Richard tried his best to quell the annoyance that had risen from within him upon having to listen to that speech of introduction he had been forced to listen to.
'Well, well thanks for getting me out of that tight spot, I'll protect you from now on so no need to worry any longer. With me around no one will even think about causing us trouble.' Having no idea what kind of tight spot he had inadvertently saved his familiar from, he could only stare at it as it threateningly clawed at the air while giving of a proud expression.
"Well seeing as were going to be together from now on mind telling me what your good at?"
'Oh I am really strong, you see these claws. I can just go scratch scratch and I win, oh and feel free to call me Bai from now on that's what everyone calls me.' Looking at Bai's small stature Richard couldn't help but shake his head. Wasn't a cats greatest strength their stealthiness?
Putting aside these stray thoughts he decided to focus on creating the stable spell runes before the two of them would be forced to leave this space.
