Book 2: Chapter 31

"Eric, why are you here?" The embarrassment I felt must have prevailed over my surprise of seeing him again. And perhaps, it marked on the sudden change of my expression.

"To see you, of course," he answered, smiling. Something I never remembered when I was still with him.

The more I had come to believe that I was his mere sex toy because I had never been with anyone else. Eric was highly meticulous, and he couldn't just do sex with anyone he came across with. I am sure that every woman he slept with was all untouched by other men yet, just like my best friend.

He may have flirted with lots of women, especially during social gatherings, but that was all because he wanted to boost his pride. But those he brought to his bed must be all inexperienced.

Why am I sure about that? It was because he made me swear I was telling the truth during that first night I gave myself to him. He couldn't just suck the nectar between a woman's leg if he wasn't sure he was the only one who had tasted it.

Perhaps, this was the reason why he lost his interest in Calla. He knew that after him, she was with the president and then with Sean. With his obsessive-compulsive character, he would no longer turn his head over to someone who had been someone's used good.

But what about me? Am I not someone's leftover?

"Is that bouquet for me?" I stared at the white roses in his arm. It's sleek and white petals looked so fragile but lovely in my eyes.

"Who else? I come over to see no one else but you," he chuckled.

"What's this drama all about, Eric?" I frowned, raising a brow at him. I felt so sick at this unusual display of his affection.

Eric pursed a smile as he looked at me with a sincere expression.

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" he asked, throwing his gaze at me. I looked around, hesitant to do that, but I was already too exhausted to talk to him somewhere.

"Okay. Come in," I said, also accepting the bouquet he placed in my hands.

I walked towards the table and placed it there. It sat beautifully on top of the glass surface, complimenting the olive shade of the curtains. I threw a stolen glance at Eric through my peripheral views, and I got startled to find him standing close to me. To ease the awkwardness, I pulled out a chair and gestured for him to sit down across me.

To my horror, he hugged me from behind and locked me in his arms. I stiffened for a few seconds before I squirmed myself free from his embrace.

"I missed you so much, Red," he said, and his breathing fanned the scalp on top of my head.

"Don't do this," I hissed, starting to get annoyed.

All of a sudden, goosebumps ran all over my body at the thought of how similar Eric and Sean were. They both succeeded in shattering my heart into pieces.

Eric released me and walked over to the chair across the table. I heaved out a sigh as I watched him moving away from me.

"How are you, Red? How's the baby?"

"I'm fine," I replied briefly, dismissing the question. "Why are you here?"

"To see you as I said a while ago. The news about you and Mr. Grey breaking up has reached me. And since I regretted losing you, I see it as a chance to have you back."

I scoffed. Then, I looked at him in the eyes and said, "I'm pregnant, Eric, and it only proves I'm having sex with another man. I undress before him, open my legs for him, and even stuff his member inside my mouth. Doesn't the thought of it still make you want me?"

I watched Eric's face distorting, but he somehow managed to change his expression quickly. If I were a food, it would have made his stomach turn upside down and throw me out of his system.

"Isn't that what normal couple do? I know you are married, so that's not a big deal."

I laughed mirthlessly as I knew how crazy he was about a woman's hygiene. Whenever he wanted to have sex with me before, he wouldn't touch me without sending me to shower first.

"Say it, and I'll make love to you right now. I'll make it sure that you would forget you had been with another man," Eric smirked.

"So much with the foolishness. Why are you here?"I changed the topic--it was just not healthy anymore.

"I'm here to take you home with me. You may find it hard to believe, but I really want you back. I regret losing you, Red."

I watched every bit of Eric's expression, and he indeed looked remorseful. I didn't expect that my loss would create a big impact on him.

"I won't. Here is my home. I have to take care of my family's business." I didn't think he was oblivious of what was happening with me.

Eric sighed, and I saw despair in his expression. "Forget about business first. To have a healthy pregnancy must be your priority. Business can wait."

I couldn't believe he said it. Eric's mind was all about business, and he even always used me to attract investors. I remembered how he asked me to get Sean's attention during the launching of Laminae, Inc. He knew he was a big fish in the international market, and to have him as an investor in his company would be beneficial to him. I indeed danced with Sean, only to know that he had been my predator, waiting for the right time to catch his prey.

"Really, Eric? If I go with you, what would the people think? Can you face their ridicule on you for having picked a woman who is pregnant with another man's child?"

Eric sighed and continued to listen to me patiently. "I don't care what other people think, Red. He or she is going to be our child. I will support you both all the way and give him or her my name."

Amazing. The question is, how long would this offer stand? What kind of wind had swept him over that he suddenly becomes a changed man? Or, could this be just the other side of him that I had not seen yet?

"And since I know your current situation about the business, I can also share my ideas if you want."
