"Thanks, God! You're finally awake!"
I shut my eyes back when the blinding light of the sun entered my eyes. I then opened them slowly until I got adjusted to the glare. I stared at the woman who stood by the bedside, brushing the tears in her eyes with the back of her hand.
"Mia?" I exclaimed, my eyes glowed at the sight of my rival in my love for Sean.
"Why are you here?"
Her lips trembled right away, and her eyes welled with tears. "You scared us so much, especially Sean. I got so worried that he might not be able to handle his grief."
I furrowed my brows as I gathered back my thoughts on what happened before I drifted off to sleep. The ache on my back, the muscle pain, and my grogginess told me I had been in bed for days. Then, I remembered I was running after Sean and ended on escaping from the president through the cave. And I recalled everything that followed after that. A bronco bug bit me, and Philip's voice was the last thing I heard before I got unconscious.
"What happened then, after I got unconscious?" I tried to prop myself up, and Mia rushed to help me.
"I really don't know, Dr. Red. Sean just ordered to have me come over and take care of you."
A pang of pain wrapped my heart as I realized that Sean had already ended everything between us. And this woman before me was worrying so much about how Sean would carry himself, and not over my situation. If Sean still cared about me and wanted to have me back, he would have been here by my side.
"Where are we?"
"Still at Red and Greens Mountain Resort. Sean has ordered a medical team to help me attend to you."
"What happened to Mr. Patrick, to the president, and to the manager who was with me?"
"Mr. Patrick has finally submitted himself to the authorities after they cleared Sean from their false accusations. Philip has also confessed as Patrick's accomplice because of his loyalty to the Greys. He knows there was no way he could prove the president's evil plans. To make it happen, he volunteered to carry out Patrick's revenge."
"No!" My heart sank after hearing Philip's fate. He never deserved the punishment. He's one in a million, and his loyalty to my family was something to be treasured of. He worked so discreetly and brilliantly that even Sean must have thought he betrayed him.
"Mr. Sean wouldn't allow that also. They are now working out their plan to appeal to the court and defend Philip. Sean, together with Atty. Evarez and the best lawyers of the country are now helping in justifying his acts. The president has plotted so many things to take over Grey's wealth, and Philip knows about it all. Had it not been for him who pretended as their ally, these evil deeds wouldn't have been uncovered."
I sighed in relief and momentarily closed my eyes. I then whispered a silent prayer that may Philip be able to get through it.
"How about the president?" I asked again.
Mia scoffed as she held my gaze. "The most lethal Bronca bugs feasted on him and his men. Some were not even able to make it. At least the UN troops came prepared by wearing protective suits and shields."
"What about him?" My eyes were already bulging out in fear.
"Philip let him take the antidote with the promise that he will confess to his crimes."
I nodded, and my heartbeats slowed down to their normal pace.
"So, was it Philip who gave me the antidote?" The pain of Sean's absence at that moment where Philip came in pricked my heart like tiny needles.
"Patrick inserted the nasogastric tube with the help of Sean, Patrick, and his wife. The manager was still in shock until now."
"Oh. Where is Sean now?"
"He flew to Brisbane yesterday for an important meeting with the board."
"Oh!" I didn't talk further about Sean anymore. My heart was just not comfortable to talk to the woman who owned his heart now.
"By the way, Mr. Ian had forged your signature. You know what it means."
My heart sank even deeper at the thought of losing the company. I wondered how it was now that Mr. Ian had already become the principal shareholder of TAG Corporation. So, I was right after all that he was one cunning person, and I hated him even more.
"Dr. Red, start dangling your feet on the bed, then let's see if you can already stand up after a few hours. Once you can walk without the lightheadedness, maybe you could see the owner of this resort in a few days."
"Mr. Ian?" I filled it for her, and she also nodded.
________
A few days passed, and I felt better every day. The only sound that shattered the room's silence was the news reporter, updating the people about the status of the Bronca Virus pandemic. When she shifted to the world business segment, my eyes darted on the screen without blinking.
"Mr. Ian of Riddance Corporation has finally taken over as the main shareholder of TAG Corporation. The company's spokesperson announced yesterday in a press gathering that 99% of the investors are hopeful under his leadership as the new CEO of TAG Corporation."
I turned off the screen right away. Until I could deliver the baby safely after a few months, I would try my best to spare myself from the headache the company gave me. I wondered why I didn't feel sorry for it; yet, I was sorrier for losing Sean, instead.
Today, Mia did not come to my room to ask about my condition. A nurse came instead, bringing two paper bags in her hand.
"Dr. Red, I am the one assigned to you today. If you need anything, kindly tell me." She then came closer and approached me on my bed. "Dr. Mia asked me to give these bags to you."
