Chapter 10 - Target Pratice

Mathis looked at the missiles coming towards him from behind as he was attempting to run away and grit his teeth. 'There's no way I can outrun those my only chance is to either dodge all six of them or take cover.' Mathis knowing his limits and that he couldn't dodge all six missiles quickly scrambled for cover as the they approached. Just as they were about to reach him Mathis quickly jumped to the right taking cover behind one of the cracked walls. Just as he had done so the missiles crashed into the walls causing an explosion.

The walls were easily destroyed and Mathis who was still close to it was flung backwards from the explosion. As the dust began to clear Mathis could be seen in the ground coughing. 'Even though I had my guard up it still hurt like hell, the wall took most of the impact and I've only got a few burns, scrapes and bruises. I avoided the missiles, but it's not over yet.' He thought as he looked towards the ruin guard who was suddenly crouching down looking back at him. As soon as he saw this Mathis cursed knowing what it was going to do.

He quickly got up, and as he was doing so the ruin guard quickly leapt into the air towards the direction of Mathis. He hurriedly moved to the side as the ruin guard landed on the spot he was just laying on leaving large cracks on the ground. Mathis looked at the ground and gulped thinking about what would of happened if he was still laying there. He quickly dropped the sword he had found from the chest and summoned his trident and charged in thrusting at it with all his strength. Although the trident went somewhat deep into the leg of the ruin guard it looked completely unfazed.

Mathis quickly attempted to pull out his trident,but it was lodged in the leg of the ruin guard.

All of a sudden the ruin guard raised its leg seeing this Mathis let go of the trident and quickly backed away as the ruin guard stomped down creating a large footprint. Mathis resummoned his trident as he thought of a way to defeat the ruin guard. 'I need to hit it's eye. If it's the same as the games it'll be completely immobilized for a little bit and I can probably take care of easily if it's not fighting back.' The ruin guard suddenly raised its hands to it's side and faced Mathis. Since he knew the ruin guard attack patterns well from his time playing Genshin he once again knew what it was about to do.

Mathis dodged backwards as the ruin guard clapped its hand together. The impact of the clap made a small shockwave knocking Mathis back slightly. Mathis stared at the ruin guards eye as he began to think of a way to reach it or somehow hit it. He gripped his trident when the idea came to him, he changed his posture and raised his trident and threw it. Although the trident was durable and sharp it was much lighter than most would think. Mathis watched as the trident he threw with all he had ... miss. 'I guess since It's my first time throwing a weapon I can't expect to hit it on my first shot.'

Even though it had missed it's intended target due to the size of the ruin guard the trident hit the upper body of the ruin guard as it remained unfazed. Since the ruin guard was slow Mathis was getting chances to attack it easily,but that didn't mean it would stand there and not attack. Mathis soon heard a click noise as the upper body of the ruin guard began to spin rapidly and the lower body began walking towards him. Mathis didn't hesitate as he quickly turned around and began running the opposite direction the ruin guard was approaching.

Though he had no interest in fighting the ruin guard and would rather safely escape he knew that if he got far enough away from the ruin guard he would be shot by the missiles again. The ruin guards spinning eventually slowed down until it reached a stop. He took this opportunity to attack as he threw trident after trident at the ruin guards eye until eventually one hit the mark. As the trident pierced the eye the ruin guards eye which was glowing yellow became black and the ruin guard fell down into a sitting position.

Mathis didn't waste time as he rushed forward and cut off the head of the ruin guard with all the power could muster up. Once the head of the ruin guard fell onto the ground and the body of the ruin guard fell along with the head he took a deep breath and sat down. Mathis leaned onto the ruin guards body as he was panting. "I can't believe I missed 4 out of 5 shots on this big lump of whatever it's made out of. I need target practice, and if it wasn't for me knowing the weak spot I don't think I would've come out on top.

Mathis got up and slowly walked towards the large crack in the ground where the ruin guard landed and picked up the sword he got from the chest. 'Good it's undamaged I can still sell this for a lot of mora.' He thought as he began looking around the ancient ruins. Once he has confirmed that there was nothing left in the ruins Mathis began to walk in what he believed to be the direction he came from.

After almost half and hour of walking he began to look distressed. 'I don't remember there being a river when I was coming from the City of Mondstadt. I also don't remember seeing that big tree in the distance either. Did I actually get myself lost?'
