Chapter 9 - Ancient Ruins

Mathis was eventually called up to get his food. Unlike last time he had gotten something bigger to eat since he had much more mora than before. He ordered a Sweet Madame which was described on the menu as a Honey-roasted fowl it also described how the honey and sweet flowers come together to compliment the tender fowl meat. The description sounded so appetizing that Mathis couldn't help but order it. 'This is my first proper meal in the last two days so why not go big the chicken-mushroom skewer was great but it barely filled me up.

As he was thinking this Mathis took his time to enjoying his food as he began planning for the next day. After he finished he said goodbye to Sara who seemed to be packing things up for the night. He began to walk towards the bench he was sitting on before and once he arrived he took a seat and leaned back. 'I'll sleep here for the night I don't want to go the tavern all the time they'll probably ban me if I keep sleeping there although I don't think they noticed.' As he thought of this he began to close his eyes and tried his best to fall asleep. It wasn't that hard with the lack of any loud noises around him no cars or any vehicles and not many people out and about this late.

Mathis opened his eyes and yawned as he had just woken up from a long sleep. His eyes scanned the area as he slowly got up. "Ughhh. My body feels so stiff, I slept on a bench the whole night what am I expecting." Mathis groaned. After doing some streching he checked to see if he still had his mora on him and started with his day. He looked up and saw that the sun was just rising so he didn't wake up in the middle of the day. Mathis started walking and eventually made his way out of the City of Mondstadt. He slowly walked around to the side of the bridge and splashed some water onto his face. 'There we go I'm wide awake now, time to head out and see what I can find. What type of adventurer would I be if I didn't go out and adventure.' Mathis thought to himself as he began to walk in a direction.

Mathis did his best to remember the scenery around him as he walked since he didn't want to get lost. Although he wanted to buy a map he didn't know where to get one he guessed that Marjorie's souvenir shop also known as "With wind Comes Glory" would have one, but her shop didn't take mora, but Anemo Sigils instead. The only way Mathis knew how to get them were from chests. 'If I find some ruins with some treasure they might have some anemo sigils along with mora and weapons I might be able to sell.' As he thought of this his steps began to get quicker as a smile appeared on his face.

After a while Mathis could be seen aimlessly walking around with the smile on his face nowhere in sight. 'I knew it wouldn't be easy finding anything, but it's definitely been well over two hours and I still can't find anything. All I've seen so far is a bunch of hilichurls and slimes although I avoided them all since it's not worth the time.' While Mathis complained in his head he began to continue his search for treasure which currently wasn't going anywhere. After some time Mathis stopped his complaining as he had finally found something. He looked at the area ahead which seemed to be some ancient ruins seeing as most of the things in area were mainly collapsed and had moss covering parts or in the cracks of the stone walls and structures.

'Looks like I got lucky these ancient ruins probably have some good stuff inside.' He thought as he towards the area he saw something that gave him mixed feelings. He noticed a large brown chest with gold designs next to a cracked pillar. The bad thing about this was that there was a massive humanoid machine not too far from it very slowly moving around the area with it's every footstep making large noises. Mathis looked at the ruin guard that was larger than the Mitachurl he had previously faced and frowned as he was deep in thought. 'I can't take this thing on and I don't want to either, but that chest looks so appealing it definitely has some good stuff in there maybe I can go around and take the stuff without it noticing. It's not too close to it so if I hurry I can get the stuff inside without it noticing me.' Although Mathis considered turning back and not risking it he couldn't help but want to try.

Mathis quietly made his way around the area so he could get closer to where the chest. After positioning himself close enough he readied himself and waited for the ruin guard to walk a little farther away. Once it did Mathis sprinted at the chest quickly opening it and seeing what was in it. Inside the there was mora, purple crystals, a few blue sigils, and a blue sword with a brown and white handle. Mathis quickly stored away all the mora, crystals and sigils and held the sword in his hand. He turned around and was ready to make a run for it, but all of a sudden an indescribable noise was heard. Mathis turned around and saw that the noise was from the ruin guard and it looked like it had noticed him. The ruin guard began to turn around crouch and put both hands on the ground. Mathis was all too familiar with this action as he cursed and began running. From the back of the ruin guard 6 missiles suddenly shot out and they had only one target.
