The unknown source of Poison

"The cause of his death is poisoning??", Jonathan read the autopsy report loudly.

" Poison???", Crystal was also shocked. When she saw him, he was having his meal and that too was prepared in the prison's mess. Other prisoners also ate it but they were all fine. Others also looked at her waiting for her to say something but she kept quite.

"I would like to have a look at the dead body.", Chris said to the woman who was standing behind Jennifer.

" Sure sir. This way, please.", she led the way.

Ryan, who was silent all the time, snatched the report from Jonathan's hands and read it. It was clearly visible on his face that he was pissed off. "You were the last one to see him alive.", he said to Crystal gritting his teeth.

" I'm agreeing with that. And I went there to interrogate him not to kill him.", she was annoyed.

"But you killed him anyway.", he again blamed her.

" Have you lost it??? Why would I kill him when I wanted to ask him so many questions? He knows about Elysian also. How could I..???", she shouted back.

They both stared at each other furiously. If it wasn't for Jonathan, they would have thrown hands on one another.

"Hey, hey, hey guys!!! Calm down What are you both doing?", he jumped between both of them to stop their fighting. " We are investigating a case and we've to fight with the criminals not with our colleagues. Ryan, I apologize but your accusations are pointless.", he said.

"We'll find out about that soon.", Ryan stared at both of them and then walked out in anger.

" What's with him? Why was he reacting like that?", he said looking at his back.

"I'm going home ", she said with a low voice. It was clear that she was upset for being accused. So Jonathan didn't stopped her.

" Okay, I'll come with Chris and Jessica.

She nodded and left. On her way home, she called Ji Chang and asked him if they can meet.

"Yea, sure. Come over.", he agreed and she sped her car towards his house.

There was a strange unsettling feeling she had been going through all this time.

" It's not right, it's not right.", she bit her lower lips as she thought about the case.

In about 15 minutes, she reached Ji Chang's house.

Ji Chang and Elysian were both having dinner when she entered the hall. Since Jonathan had called them before hand and told them about the situation, they didn't wanted to upset her more by asking her about the report.

"Ahh you came! come join us.", Ji Chang invited her with a broad smile.

" No, I'm good. You both please eat well.", she denied. "Ohh, and I'm going to your room I have some stuff to do.", she said to Elysian and left.

" Stuffs??? What do you mean some stuff?", he asked confused.

"Thankyou", her voice came from his room followed by the sound of door being closed.

"Hey, I didn't said you could use the room", he said but got only silence in reply.

" Seriously!!", Elysian sighed looking at Ji Chang who seemed to enjoy the show.

"What?", Ji Chang asked Elysian who was staring at him.

" Where am I supposed to sleep now?", Elysian asked putting down his bowl of rice in the table.

"...maybe on the couch???", Ji Chang replied as he continued to eat.

"Yea, good idea. Thanks bud", Elysian said smiling.

" Yea, anytime bro.", Ji Chang also smiled.

While they both were having their dinner, Crystal was busy doing her work. And Chris, Jonathan and Jennifer also returned from the hospital with the autopsy report.

"We brought a copy of the report with us", Chris said giving it to Ji Chang.

" Hmmm, so this says that he died because of poisoning. What was the source of poison?", Ji Chang asked them after reading the report.

"That's what the point is. They say that the source has not been found yet. He died seconds after eating. But neither the food he ate nor the water he drank was contaminated with poison.", Jennifer said talking off her shoes.

" Any fingerprints?", Ji Chang asked again looking at the report.

"Yes, three fingerprints were found. First was of Nicholas's himself, second of the man who distributes food in the prison and third was found on the glass of water and it was Crystal's.", Jonathan replied him and then he realised that Crystal wasn't there.

"Wait. Where is Crystal? Didn't she came here?", it was clear from his face that he was worried for her.

" Relax. She came and she is in my room.

She said she has stuff to do.", Elysian, who was lying on the couch said.

And as soon as the three of them heard they were all confused.

"What stuff?", Jonathan asked him.

" I don't know. She seemed upset and didn't even joined us for dinner.", Elysian explained.

"Guys, let her be. The day was tiring for her. Let's talk to her in the morning.", Jennifer said and the others agreed.

" Okay then, if you want something to eat, get it from the refrigerator and Jennifer, you can sleep in Chris's room since Crystal wants to be alone and the four of us will adjust in the hall.", Ji Chang said to them.

"No... I can drive back home. I don't want to bother you guys.", Jennifer stood up to leave. But Chris blocked her way. " We won't send you alone at this hour of night. Stay here, please.", he said gently.

"Yes, he's right. Go have some sleep.", Jonathan said while he stood up and went to the kitchen to get some food.

Jennifer was also feeling sleepy so she didn't said anything and went to the room quietly to have some rest.

" Okay, then it's just four of us.", Chris said sighing.

"Wrong. Only three of you. I found my spot already.", said Elysian from under the blanket, lying on the couch.

" Hey!!! I was thinking to sleep there.", Chris said whining but Elysian didn't bother to reply him and slept.

"Shut up... don't throw tantrums at night. Come sleep here.", Ji Chang said lying on the floor.

" No", Chris said and sat on the sofa.

"Suit yourself then. Good night", Ji Chang closed his eyes and after a minute or two, he started snoring.

" Where am I supposed to sleep now?", Chris said leaning back on the sofa and looked around in the hall for a place to sleep.

His eyes lit up when he saw the dinning table. So he went and removed the crockery set, fruit bowl and everything else kept on the table.

" It's hard, but it will do. Its better than sleeping on the floor at least.", he said while checking the table with his fingers.

Then he climbed on it and layed on it,"Wait. What if the table breaks? No, no. I'm not fat. It won't happen.", and he slept.
