Scorpion's Bite

I'm forced to regain my consciousness by the sharp pain on my back. With a deep wince, I open my eyes only to realize that I can see nothing. I immediately flinch and jolt to wake up and regret it as the pain is getting worse, makes me to groan.

I blink my eyes few times, hoping it can make my vision better. Still, there is not a single thing I can see. I almost believe that I am now blind if I didn't see a tiny dot of light, very far away from me. I sigh in relieved to know my vision is fine and it is actually because wherever I am now has actually no light.

Slowly, I check each of my muscles and bones by moving them. Pain is everywhere, but I still can move them properly. So, I decide to wake up. I need to drag my body closer to the light.

I don't know how long I've been walking toward the light. I also have lost count of how many steps I made. It seems like forever and still the light doesn't get any closer. Alright, I know I was too exaggerated. The dot is getting slightly bigger, thus I know I am getting closer to it. But it is a very slow progress, and I am already exhausted.

I sit to rest for a while. I don't even have something to lean on, so I just lay my body on the ground. Something tickles my chest. At first I ignore it, but it then moves. I can feel its legs creep up, wandering on my chest. Reflexively, my hand swipe it away. I then turn my body and groping in the dark to catch it. It's already gone. Maybe it is scared and runs away for its life.

Since I'm already waking up, I decide to continue my walk. There is not a single wind exist, but the weather is cold and humid. My body is shivering. Assuming that the light will give me warmth, I accelerate my steps, limping and ignoring the pain that arises at each step.

Slowly but sure the light is becoming bigger but not as big as I thought. Turns out it is some kind of a tunnel. It has approximately one meter diameter. I decide to crawl into the tunnel. I don't know what will I face once I reach the other end of the tunnel, but I have walked too far to just stay on where I am now.

The tunnel is short. Within several crawls I reach the end of it. I get out of the tunnel. My sight becomes blind for a second receiving tremendous ray of light all of sudden after being in the dark for so long.

After I gain my sight back, I realize the light is not sun. It is from dozens, maybe hundreds, of lightbulbs which is reflected by the all white interior. I'm not in a outdoor space. Instead, I'm in a very huge room with nothing in it except all those lightbulbs.

"What is this place ?" I ask my self in confused. "How can I end up here ?"

Before I can analyze it any further, my chest is itchy again. I look at it and hell am I surprised to find a scorpion is actually crawling on it. I swipe the scorpion away from my body. It falls right next to my left foot. I'm about to step on it to end its life, but something stops me.

Instead, I squat down and observe the scorpion closely. It is not a common scorpion I use to see. It is yellow and respectively more slender than usual scorpion. I am now very close to the scorpion. I can see now that its skin is semi-transparent. I can see its veins, well I assume scorpion has veins, right ? Well, at least this scorpion has.

After being content with my observation to the arachnid, I pull my head away from it. Suddenly, the scorpion jumps onto my head and pecks its tail to the center of my head. I grab it then squeeze it.

A sudden pain burst inside my head. It is so painful, like being electrocuted by high voltage. My body is cramping. I fall on the ground. My body is now in fetus position as the pain is barely unbearable. I can feel muscles of my brain are starting to pop one at a time. My sight is black. My mouth is opened, trying hard to scream..

----------

"AAAAAAARGH!!" I'm finally able to scream and get back my sight. It is then I see my surrounding is different.

"Score, You awake!!" Someone exclaims in relieved. When I feel that person's hand touches my hand, I reflexively twist it. "Aaaw!! Score!! You hurt me!!"

I know that voice. I turn my head to the person. "Thief ?" I ask in between confused and disbelief. My head aches again, but not nearly as bad as in my dream, if it was a dream (?).

"Yes, it's me!" Thief confirms with a winced face.

I quickly release her hand. Then I see other familiar faces, "Andy ? Bob ? "

"Glad you're awake, Boss," Bob answers me.

"Where.. where am I ?" I ask, look around the room I am in. It is filled with medical equipments, including life support systems and monitoring tools. But it is definitely not a room of any hospital.

"In a warehouse, ten miles from where you fell," Bob answers. "The medical squad built this facility once they found.."

"I fell ?" I ask.

"You did," Thief says then frowns, "Don't tell me you get amnesia again."

My brain starts to recall what happened to me. I shake my head. "No, I remember," I say to her then placing my gaze to the trio in front of me. "So why the hell are you all in here ?!?!"

"You were in a comma," Andy says. There is a vivid worry in his tone. But I don't pay attention to it.

"If you both are here, who's watching Jen ?" I ask. A disturbed tone skips from my voice.

"She's in her office. I have my man watch.."

"I told YOU to watch her, not your man!" I snap at Bob's words. Then I put my sight to Thief. "And you.. why the hell the daughter of president candidate is in here ?"

"You were nearly dying, Score. We were so worry about you," Thief answers me.

"Do you know how many paparazzis are out there following you ? Not to mention the bodyguards your father provides for you.."

"Andy helped me disguised, okay. And my bodyguards are guarding in front of my dorm, thinking I have another tantrum with my father and decide not to come out of my dorm," Thief explains. I sigh.

"How long I passed out ?" I eventually ask.

"Almost two weeks," Andy says.

"What ?!" I immediately uncover my blanket and get out from my bed, ignoring the pain that immediately strikes me. The trio are trying to halt me.

"Scott, you are paral.." Andy doesn't finish his words when seeing me stand up.

"What ?!" I bark.

"The doctor said you broke your spine and you are supposed to unable to walk," Bob continues what Andy's about to say.

"Well, the doctor was wrong," I say to him while taking off all cables and IV's needle from my body.

"Wait, Score !! Where are you going ?!"

"Home," I answer then start limping out of the medical space they made for me.
