Cold War

With constant demands from Jennifer, we finally left the health facility a week later. That's only happened after the pediatrician said it is only safe for us to bring Sophie outside the NICU after a week. Before hearing the pediatrician Jennifer insisted to get out of there that same day.

We decided to move back to Jennifer's childhood home, since a small and quiet town tense to give us more peaceful life than living in a big city like NY city. But, town M is a lot further than NY city, even W city where Mrs. Rauss lives from the headquarter. It would take 20 hours to drive straight without any rest. With Jennifer's condition, it was an impossible option. On the other hand, it was also impossible for us to take a flight, considering, once again, Jennifer's heart condition. Fortunately, Bruno has a big heart and agrees to teleport us to town M. Knowing there is no other alternative way, Jennifer finally agrees with this method.

With Sophie on my left arm, Jennifer in my right arm's embrace, and a backpack full of Sophie's gifts from Sara, Fred, and Mrs. Rauss, I stand in front of Bruno.

"You guys, ready ?" He asks.

I move my sight toward Jennifer. She just nods once. "Yes, we're ready," I answer Bruno.

"Okay," He says then touches both of my arms. "Close your eyes, and on count of three take a deep breath."

I obey him and close my eyes.

"1... 2... 3..."

In a split second I feel like everything inside my gut are twirling around.

"We're here. You can open your eyes," Bruno says merely another split of second later.

Once I open my eyes, Jennifer bends down and throws up.

"Baby, are you okay ?" I in reflect ask in worry.

Jennifer nods a couple of times while wiping her mouth with the back of her palm.

"It's common for first riders to throw up," Bruno says, giving Jennifer a thin smile. Having no response from her, Bruno scratches his neck awkwardly.

"Let me take her to terrace. It's snowing," Instead Jennifer asks me to give Sophie to her.

"Be careful," I say while putting Sophie onto Jennifer's arm. Once Sophie is comfortable in her cradle, Jennifer walks toward the terrace.

"Thanks, man," I tell him my gratitude as I pat his shoulder a couple of times.

"You're welcome," Bruno replies. He then glances at Jennifer who has stood on the terrace waiting for me. "Take care of your family," he then adds.

I nod. "For sure," I say before leaving him to approach Jennifer. When I lead Jennifer to enter the house and about to close the front door, I notice Bruno has disappeared.

"We're home, Baby..."

I know Jennifer is talking to Sophie, not me, as she is whispering in front of our little one's ear. Sophie moves a little while her eyes are still closed.

"Yes, we're home." Still, I respond her words and kiss her forehead. But before my lips touch her forehead, she moves away from me.

All I can do is sighing heavily to see her act. "Til when are you gonna keep angry to me ?" I ask while my eyes watching Jennifer sitting on the couch.

"I'm tired" Instead of answering my question, Jennifer makes an excuse.

I exhale again, thickening my patient. "Okay. You better rest in your parent's room. It is not safe for you to climb the stairs."

Jennifer doesn't respond me a word, just giving Sophie to me. When she carries the baby's bag and walks to another direction instead of the bed room, I catch her arm, halting her movement.

"Where are you going ?"

"I need to pump my breast first," She says in cold tone, making me awkward. She releases her arm from my halt and goes to the kitchen.

Decide to give her a room to breathe, I just watch her disappearing into the kitchen until my sight loss her. Only then I sit on the couch while Sophie is still soundly asleep in my arm.

Since she knew about what I did to safe her, Jennifer has started a cold war to me. She keeps a very minimum contact toward me, both in verbal and touch. And I ... considering her condition, I have to halt my self and bear with it. I mean... if I brought that up again, I'm afraid it would chaotic her heart. That's.. the last thing I want to happen.

I sigh for the umpteenth times while moving my sight to the boxes that piling near the front window. Those boxes contain Jennifer's and my things in the apartment.

For the sake of getting rid of Jennifer's trace from my memory, Lily asked Charlotte to wipe memories of all people who new Jennifer in NY city. Charlotte also bent a young couple's memories so they believes they have lived in our apartment for a long time. For that, Lily managed some underlings to clean our things from the apartment.

Charlotte has returned the memories back to normal though. She was also the one who found our stuffs back from Lily's secret place.

"The milk," Jennifer says as hindering my sight with a bottle of milk.

"Thank you, Baby," I say. As my hand is reaching the milk, I glance at her face. It is pale with few drops of cold sweat on her forehead.

"Are you in pain, Baby ?" I instantly asks in worry.

"No," She answers in short then goes to her parent's bedroom.

I told you over and over that I am an emotionless man, didn't I ? And I believe I am. Yet, her coldness is making me barely able to prevent a tear drops from my eye.
