Taking The First Step Tonight

After having breakfast with my estranged family, I lounged around in my obnoxiously spacious bedroom and sat beside the window. I have been contemplating something and it's about weighing out two options that has it's own pros and cons. Truthfully, I already decided that I will be proactive to try to change my fate but...

Is it better for me to just live the way I want in this life? Don't try to prove something, don't try to change anything. If you know all of it then act stupid, but also avoid any kind of events that would affect you.

Don't try to be the hero.

Don't try to redeem your character.

It's selfish for you to take the spotlight from the intended heroine.

Hah, what a joke. The reality is that Emilia was completely wronged by the author. Her character should have developed more, her given characteristics was supposed to progress into something more but in the end her character was written as a second tier villainess when it could've been more.

And honestly, the fact that I am Emilia Maxwell makes me want to redeem her. Now that I am her and she is me, I don't have to follow along the author's direction.

If I kept on going along with all of it and turn a blind eye on what'll happen, I'm going to get used. The reality of this stupid webnovel is that Emilia is fated to be used by the people surrounding her and coincidentally, the three major people who manipulate Emilia for their personal gain are all related to each other.

The first person who tried to manipulate Emilia is Princess Sienna, the second one is Prince Gerard and lastly, the third person was Emperor Cain. All three are the most powerful people in the empire and could do anything they want.

If I don't ever make a move to escape my fate of being executed, these three are going to pave the way to my unfortunate death.

And it is whether I decide to go against the Royal Family or try to gain their favour.

But one thing is for sure... I'll stay out of the Saint's way.

"Lady Emilia, it's time to get ready for the tea party."

Wait, what tea party?

____________

So, whatever Higher Power that's governing this world right now... is really trying to prove it to me I should be proactive to change my fate. This is a once in a lifetime cosmic sign from the heavens... I should scrape the idea of leaving it as it is.

Princess Sienna was quietly enjoying her tea and snacks while I was trying hard to contain my discomfort. Because would you be comfortable around a woman who will use you and chuck you away for convenience? I sighed and didn't even bother to try to keep up with the ongoing conversation and so did the Princess.

"Lady Emilia... Why do you look queasy today? Did you have a fight with Gerard? Or was it something else?" She asked me with a smile and all I could see were the calculative motives behind it.

"It's nothing Princess, I just woke up at the wrong side of the bed today." I smiled back although I'm pretty sure due to my minimum amount on trying to look sincere, I probably look like I'm too worn out to talk to her.

And she looked taken aback. That's probably because all these times Emilia tried so hard to be chummy with Her Highness, as if being friends with a Princess could validate her position being a bastard among the High Society. Princess probably saw through it too, and decided she should keep Emilia's tail wagging just so she could use her for future convenience.

So an Emperor who managed to claim an entire continent by iron and blood, a Prince that doesn't understand fidelity and a Princess who takes advantage of people to do her dirty work.

Emilia might have been manipulated by these people as easily but I won't play nice. I'm protecting Emilia in this life.

I decide that my first move will be to break off the engagement between me and Prince Gerard.

"Lady Emilia, I know I shouldn't be asking for this when you already look so worn out today, but would you like to attend a ball tonight? It's being held at Count Gezelmon's." She held my hand, and tightened the hold as if she was being sincere.

I'm curious, was that an attempt to win my heart again? Or to show me whether I answer yes or no I still have to go along with her offer? ... I won't squander my time away to think about it. Whatever it is, I'll use it as an opportunity when I see it's fit.

"Of course, Princess. I suppose Prince Gerard will pick me up?" I smiled and carefully tried to slip my hand away from her hold. I don't care if that seemed rude to her.

"Oh yes. I told Prince Gerard to wear something midnight blue tonight, and I already sent a matching dress to your estate." She said, now a little bit at ease seeing that I didn't hesitate to accept her invitation.

I smiled back, trying to look sincere. Truthfully, Count Gezelmon rang a bell and I figured out the whole bit already. At Count Gezelmon's ball tonight, Prince Gerard wore something burgundy instead to spite me and schemed with his sister to send a midnight blue dress to embarrass me.

Count Gezelmon is the noble that decided to lend the Saint a roof over her head seeing that her Baron family didn't have relatives at the capital for her to stay with. The Count and his wife who only wanted to know how it feels to have a daughter took her in.

Count Gezelmon's ball is where the Saint first meet the second male lead of the webnovel, Prince Gerard Jeremiah Iz Catrionne. My soon-to-be-ex-fiance and the brother of the Empire's supreme ruler.

I smirked, hiding it when I placed the teacup at my lips. So my first step is going to be in motion tonight.
