Jessie was hurt, but not as bad as Ada. With the beta down and the forces that had joined him scattering, their path was clear. The four of them made their way further I to the camp, the sounds of wolves fighting dying down all around them. This battle was almost over. Both sides has lost many wolves, but there had been far fewer rogues than pack wolves and those rogues that were still alive were running. Most rogues were selfish creatures, so it came as not surprise.
They made their way to the last standing tent. Ada leaned heavily on Vincent as they moved, Zack helping Jessie walk. They were a rather sorry sight, Ada badly injured, Jessie with a possible broken leg and the other two having to drag them forward. None of them were leaving the others. It had been the four of them from the start. It made sense that it ended with the four of them.
Stopping just outside the flap of the large tent, all four shared a look. Ada took in a deep breath and pushed the flap out of the way, all of them entering with Vincent and Ada in front.
The tent was quite sizable, big enough to hold twenty people while each of them still had enough space to not be touching anyone else. Inside though, there were only three. Kyle stood behind two kneeling figures, a wild grin on his face as he held a knife. Ada narrowed her eyes upon seeing the weapon. The coward. Of course he would bring a weapon. He knew the four before him were too much, so he was going to try and bargin his way out. Ada couldn't let that happen.
"So good of you all to finally make it." He sneered, a confidence in his voice Ada knew would not be there if he knew they did not plan to let him go.
"Mommy and Daddy here wont last much longer, so let's make this quick. I give you them, you let me leave. You never have to see my face again. Or..." He paused here and glared at all four of them.
Cloth bags had been placed over the faces of the Alpha and Luna, and Kyle pulled them off now. Ada felt all three boys tense and she tightly squeezed Vincent's arm to keep him focused. He had to stay calm.
"I could slit their throats and you can watch them die." Kyle finished. Ada wanted nothing more than to RIP that smug look off his face. He thought he had them. He thought he was clever and he was going to live.
While the boys shared looks in an attempt to figure out what to do, Ada was calming her own mind. She knew what she had to do. She knew they could not let Kyle go. They had to send a message.
They boys had deliberated enough and Jessie went to speak, but Ada cut him off.
"No." She said firmly. Kyle didn't seem surprised but the scowl on his face showed his sudden unease. Clearly he assumed the pack had tamed Ada in some way.
"What was that?" He growled at her. Ada, who'd had her eyes on the Alpha and Luna this entire time, reading the thoughts behind their eyes, lifted her gaze to Kyle's face.
"No. You will not be getting what you want. You will not be leaving. You will not survive this." Ada said to him. the smile in his face wavered and he let out a nervous chuckle.
"You dont speak for everyone here." He motioned to the three males with her. Ada didn't respond, instead letting them talk.
Vincent shared looks with Zaxk and Jessie. They then nodded and looked back at Kyle.
"She does. You're not leaving here alive." He growled. Kyle looked at them like they were crazy.
"You have no power here! You have nothing to bargin with other than my freedom!" He pointed out almost hysterically. Ada narrowed her eyes at him.
"We cant afford to let you leave here alive." She offered as an explanation. Kyle's at first seemed like he wanted to respond, retort with something that would change their minds. However realization dawned on him. He was going to have to fight his way out, and it was four against one.
Ada knew what he was going to do before his gaze shifted. Ada tore herself away from Vincent and crossed the space between her and Kyle.
The Alpha, Vincent's dad, was on his knees in front of Kyle. He was clearly badly beaten and only partially conscious. Ada knew Kyle was going to try and kill him, sending Vincent into a chaotic rage, and maybe causing the eventual death of the Luna, Vincent's mom. Ada couldn't allow that. She knew how it felt to watch your parents die, knew what it was to lose that connection. She could not let her mate go through that.
Time felt slow as Ada crossed the distance. Vincent was moving after her, but her sudden burst of speed was too much for him to react to right away. She was in front of Kyle as he brought down the knife. Only a coward used human weapons. Pain blossomed in her side as the cold steel sunk into her. She'd shoved the Aloja aside and took the hit aimed for his neck. Kyle was surprised she had moved so fast.
Her hands were on Kyle and pushing him back. They fell to the ground with Ada in Kyle's chest. She scratched and slapped at his face as he fought her, attempting to get her off. He tried to grab at the knife in her side, but she got it first. Ada pulled it free, and turned it on Kyle. She began to scream as she slashed and stabbed at him. His face, his neck, what she could reach of his chest.
He was no longer moving by the time Vincent and Zack managed to pull her off the corpse. It was hard to tell what the lump of flesh bone the chest has once been and Ada was covered in blood. She struggled to get back to the body, fighting and screaming. Jessie managed to get the knife from her.
It was a half hour before Ada was calmed enough to leave the tent. She was in a daze as Vincent carried her. Her eyes were dull and everything was a blurred as what was left of the attacking force rallied around the four friends. Chiers rose up around them, howling and barking. It was loud and hurt Ada's head, but she was too tired to object or do anything about it. Instead she just closed her eyes.
