I’m Mirei Ying

*PREVIOUS CHAPTER*

"Master, do you perhaps know where your lover is?" I shook my head, the previous owner of this body had quite a tragic ending.

I was hesitating whether to tell Naralia that I'm not from here or not. Most people would definitely think of me as a psychopath but maybe Naralia would believe me. I took a deep breath and prepared myself.

"Actually, I'm not that woman. I'm not someone from this world" Naralia immediately turned around and thought that I was joking. When she saw my face, she stiffened.

"Where do you really come from?" Her voice was trembling.

"I'm from a country called China, it's in a different dimension. I saved a young boy but died instead, that's how I got reincarnated to this body" My chest felt lighter when letting that information out, but I was also worried about Naralia not believing me.

Naralia let out a sigh and didn't look scared anymore. "I really thought that you were going to say that you were someone from the underworld or something!" Naralia believed my story, not even thinking twice.

"That woman in the flashback died in the forest. That's when you got reincarnated in her body" Naralia seemed worried again. I was already happy that she believed me, but something still didn't feel right. Perhaps it was because of the fighting men in the flashback. Are they alive? Are they trying to find this body?

So many questions but no answers.

"Master, what was your name in China?" Naralia was probably full of curiosity, I actually saw it coming but always thought it would never happen.

"I'm Mirei Ying" While introducing who I really was, I also told Naralia about my past and family. What kind of job I had and about how my everyday life looked like. We laughed a lot together and we got a lot closer.

When telling more about me, something happened to Naralia's appearance. Her seal was visible and a light was shining from it. "Master, my powers are back!" Her voice sounded so happy that it cracked. A small book appeared in front of my face.

"That's a book about my progress! When I learn new powers it'll be registered in there, it functions as a book for information about me" Naralia looked very proud and opened it. The first page made me smile, it said: 'Owner: Mirei Ying'. As I turned more pages, I saw some pages that contained flashbacks of Naralia getting new powers.

It got so late that it was time to sleep. My body froze when knowing that I would be sleeping in the same bed as the duke.

***

So, here I am again, at 2 a.m.. I can't fall asleep, as always. The duke always sleeps right after burying himself under the blanket. I always suffered from insomnia as a child, luckily this body doesn't but this isn't any better. Perhaps I should ask the butler to prepare some jasmine tea before sleeping, maybe that would help me calm down.

As my thoughts went away, I fell asleep.

***

*Morning, 10 a.m.*

I got hurt during training so the duke didn't allow me to go back after applying some ointment and bandages. He was really considerate but maybe a little too much. Naralia is always with me now since she's afraid I'll still get hurt. She also gave a whole preach about me getting hurt.

'The people here are so considerate, it's incomparable to modern times'.

*The duke's POV*

Perin just arrived with information about Celestine. "Duchess Florys has quite a past, duke" Perin handed me a map.

I read the first page, nothing special. But the second one made me curious, it said that Celestine was from Yuliven, a neighbouring country. She was sold off as a bride to the oldest prince, they never spoke unless the king ordered them to. She had a lover who is currently missing.

I turned the third page, it was blank. I looked at Perin, who panicked. "I couldn't find information about her family, name or how she ended up in that forest" I put my hand on my chin. If she got sold off to be a bride, her parents must've been poor or greedy for power. The most important fact was probably that she had a lover.

The thought of her having a lover made me uneasy. 'If they were to meet again, would she leave me?' I dismissed Perin and placed my hand on my face. I needed to prevent the lover and Celestine from meeting.

*Celestine's POV*

I sneezed, was someone talking about me?

I was in the library, finding more books about magic and witchcraft. Most books said that witches lived for eternities long, not aging by casting spells upon themselves. There were multiple witch hunts that led to them going extinct. All witches that were still alive were burned on a stake, the nobles would even invite people to watch them get burned alive.

Magic was really rare. There are rules that a commoners weren't allowed to have magic creatures, if they did own them, the creature would be taken from them and given to a noble. The royal family was the reason why magic became popular, they used it for the smallest things like cooking or cleaning. 'That probably is the reason why they're so fat' I thought to myself, turning another page.

This page made me feel disgusted. Royals have been trying to forcefully mate magic creatures to get stronger magic. There are two magic creatures that went extinct because of how rare and strong they are, magic tigers and magic lions. Creatures that are currently living must live in secret, afraid that they'll get killed or have to mate.
