Chapter 11-New Acquaintance

Callum awoke at about 3 A.M. to a knock on his door. Opening it, he saw a pale-faced woman.

"Who-" He began.

"I'm Alice. Let me in before anyone sees us." She said, seeming both fearful of him and fearful of someone seeing her.

He complied.

"Why-" He began again.

"I'm here because you are destined to destroy the organization I used to work for." She said, shying away from him slightly when he sat down next to her. "I'm a clairvoyant."

"So-" He tried to speak again.

"Yes, I can see the future, to an extent."

She pulled out a glittering green crystal the size of her head.

"This is for you." She said. "I regret not asking for a second one, but what's done is done I guess. Can't reinterpret a vision."

He held the crystal. It was far heavier than he expected.

"If you want to absorb it with maximum effeciency, I suggest you use a green soul." She said.

Callum went to his newly christened 'soul drawer' and picked out a soul that was more green than the rest.

"Now-"

"Infuse the soul into it and absorb the crystal." She said. "It's the same as absorbing a soul."

Following her instructions, he watched as the soul slowly melted into the massive crystal.

"So-" He began once more.

"It improves your mind." She said. "It makes it so that you are able to perceive things that you wouldn't normally be able to, improve your cognitive function, and possibly awaken telekinesis."

"How-"

"I am a very expensive clairvoyant." She said. "My predictions have never been wrong."

"Is-"

"Yes. That's huge." She interrupted him. "Almost every single clairvoyant has been wrong at least once. I haven't."

Shrugging, Callum finally decided to absorb the crystal.

Instead of the absorption being a cool stream of power, this stream burned.

Callum gasped. His whole body feeling as though it were on fire.

"Oh. I forgot to mention that if your body can't move at the same rate as your mind, it's forcefully adapted to your mind." She smiled sweetly. "The adaptation hurts."

'No s**t it hurts.' He thought before he passed out.

....

"He seems to have held on about twenty times longer than anyone else who has done this." Alice muttered.

"My predictions regarding him seem to be flawed. I thought he'd hold on only twice as long."

Although she would never admit it, she was shocked by Callum's ability to hold on.

When he finally passed out, she was sitting on the couch and eating a sandwich.

Finishing it, she laid a blanket over him and waited for him to wake up.
