Collection Task

I stared blankly at the collection task for me at hand, placing it down at the table

[TASK]

Collect 5 Flashfreeze Flowers from Mt.Yceculd

[REWARD]

350 EXP

+300 Rogue's Association REP

+100 Tergaron REP

1550 Tyles

Looking the task over, it seemed like a pretty large reward for such a small and seemingly insignificant task. Judging by the reward, then this task must be somewhat challenging. Nonetheless, I had already accepted the collection task, so I had to do my best to complete it. Of course, I could always cancel it, but that would cost me a good chunk of my reputation with the Rogue's Association, and I really wasn't in the mood to do more quests like I had just done to get it back up.

After reading up on the task, I set a course for Mt.Yceculd. The mountain wasn't too far off, about a mile north of Tergaron. On the tip of the mountain, was where the rare Flashfreeze flowers grow. Flashfreeze flowers were often use as body preservatives, coolant, and as a medical relaxant. I assumed that there was some shady reason as to why someone had requested Flashfreeze flowers, but that wasn't for me to get into.

I exited from the north entrance of Tergaron, and walked along the dirt path that headed upwards towards the mountain. In stark contrast to the lush green plains and green forests, the north side of Tergaron was cold and desolate. The grass was dry and yellow, with a small layer of frost covering the entire area. Large creatures, coated in white fur wandered the lands off in the distance, almost as a warning sign of what to come. I could firmly say that I may have been unprepared for the task I had taken, especially if the mountain was as dangerous as it seemed. I trudged onward, going against the now hard-blowing winds, cool air being jetted into my face as if I was in a typhoon. As I scaled the mountain, the air got colder, and it became harder to breath.

After almost 2 hours of climbing, I had finally spotted a small patch of greenery, where shining, crystalline flowers lay.

"Finally, some Flashfreeze flowers!" I said, exasperated. I had been walking up this mountain for hours, and I wasn't looking forward to walking back down. I approached the flower patch, and bent down to pick up the flowers. Upon closer inspection, the flowers seemed frail and fragile, like they could break just by being touched. I carefully picked up one of the many flowers, and I felt the frost spread onto my hand, as I carefully placed it into my inventory. I sighed in relief as I realized that I had no reason to worry about the flowers breaking. I continued to slowly shovel them in my inventory.

After gathering the 5 Flashfreeze flowers I needed (and 2 more, just for some extra profit), I began walking back to the village. As I was walking back to Tergaron, I felt a rumble underneath my feet, as though a massive earthquake was shaking the ground. I slowly turned around, trembling, and stood before me… was a massive, white scaled wyvern!

The wyvern looked at me, and roared in rage. I turned back towards Tergaron, and ran as fast as I could. I can see why Flashfreeze flowers were such a commodity, they were guarded by wyverns!

"Crap crap crap crap crap! This is bad…" I screamed, sliding down the mountain as fast as I could, fleeing from my problems (just like in real life!). As Tergaron came into view, I started frantically waving my arms, and yelling at the top of my lungs, "Hey! Hey! Could someone help me! I have a wyvern chasing me, if that wasn't obvious!"

I continued running, and as I got closer to town, a line of archers walked to the gate, bows aimed at the wyvern.

"Hold steady… aim… fire!" shouted a man at the center, whom I quickly ascertained was the head of the archery division. A volley of arrows rained upon the wyvern, and it screeched in pain, and started falling onto the ground. Another volley of arrows splattered onto the wyvern, piercing it's thin leathery wings and breaching it's thick skin. Wyvern blood spilled from it's body, as it fell onto the ground.

Then, another group of soldiers, armed with large swords and heavy plate armor arrived. They got into formation and surrounded the grounded wyvern's body. The armored group then proceeded to hack and slash the wyvern's body, confirming it's death and beginning the process of skinning the wyvern and using it for resources.

I took a breath, and looked around me. Many people stared at me in awe and confusion, wondering how someone as weak as me managed to anger a wyvern and survive all the way to town. I merely shrugged, and walked into town to turn in my task. I hurriedly walked to the Rogue's Association, and placed both the task paper and the 5 Flashfreeze flowers onto the table.

I stared at the receptionist blankly, as he looked over the task paper, and verified my payment. He pushed the 1550 Tyles towards me in a small bag, and went back to whatever they were doing. I sighed, and logged off for the day, having enough wacky shenanigans for the time.
