I looked up to the skies, noting that a few of the flying 'wyverns' had seen me.
'Well this is going to suck...'
I watched as they started to fly towards me as fast as they can, all seeming excited to get to me.
'Dear Gods, these things are feral animals.'
As soon as they got close to me, they immediately divebombed at me, all closing in on me quite quickly.
As I watched them plummet towards me, I also noticed that they were in a very clear collision path with each other.
'Oh this is going to be great.'
I watched as they all flew into each other, becoming a falling mass of wings and claws.
And it was falling towards me.
"Oh fuck. Gotta get away from here fast."
And so I ran into a relatively clear area with some goblins that were not part of the horde I made earlier.
The 'wyvern ball' crashed to the ground and made a large dust cloud appear in the location it fell.
I decided that I would just forget it there since I was not going to take any chances with the wyverns.
'If they live, they aren't going to fly anymore.'
I heard screeching and tumbling coming from the inside of the dustcloud.
'Well I hope they can't, at least...'
I continued my mass killings of the goblins while dealing with the occasional 'wyvern', each time being dealt with in the same way as the first (Shot down the throat.).
About ten minutes into my massacre of the fourth wave, The announcer spoke up with some clear excitement.
=Well folks, we're finally at the first checkpoint of this challenge! We have finally reached wave five, where we will have our first boss enemy: The Dark Mage!=
The crowd that had been silent for the duration of the challenge rose their voices in excitement, clearly showing their approval.
'You have got to be fucking kidding me. A boss enemy? Now?'
I looked towards the portals, noting that they have become a darker shade of purple once more, with the portal seeming to look more complete than before.
I watched as all the portals seemed to phase out of existence one by one until there was a single portal left.
'Oh this is some 'cinematic cutscene' bullshit, isn't it.'
I watched as a large figure slowly rode out of the portal.
The figure looked like a humanoid with white hair wearing a tiki mask, and it was riding a large... book.
'The fuck? A book?'
The mage was also surrounded by several other floating books, but they were all normal sized books.
'This dude(?) must REALLY like books...'
I looked towards the mage, noting that they had begun to move towards me.
I looked around the area and noticed something that was both reassuring and disconcerting to see:
The arena was empty besides the two of us, and all the goblins, javelin-throwers, and 'wyverns' were gone.
'Where the fuck did they go? I looked away for a single second and they all vanished.'
It was a worrying sight to see, but I was glad that I got to focus my full attention on the mage.
'I wonder what they can do-'
My thought was cut off by the dark mage forming an orb of energy in their hand.
I had one thing to say about the prepared attack.
"Oh."
And then they threw it at me. Aggressively.
I decided that I should respond to the attack verbally:
"Nope, you can't hit me with something that slow! Try again."
To my surprise, the mage somehow managed to look annoyed while wearing a mask.
'How do you pull off facial expressions with a mask?'
I decided that I should begin approaching the mage to attack them, but the mage had other ideas in mind.
As soon as I began approaching the mage, he began chanting in a language I did not understand.
'Hmm... Chanting is definitely a bad thing. Better stop that.'
I began my approach at a faster speed, but I was unable to stop the mage in time.
About ten seconds before I was able to reach him, they succeeded in finishing the chant.
I was expecting the chant to do something, but skeletons were something I did not expect.
I hurried towards the mage, hoping to get past the skeletons, but before I could reach the mage, I was intercepted by the undead group.
I tried to use my light's bane to beat one of the skeletons, but I only cracked one of the skeleton's bones with my slash.
'Damn, my only weakness: durable skeletons.'
I immediately backpedal away from the group of skeletons, ready for a counterattack.
One came, but I was prepared for it.
One of the skeletons tried swiping at me with its arm, but I immediately blocked it with my sword.
It was a strong hit, and my arm felt the impact for a few seconds.
I realized that my sword was too slow of a weapon at that point, so I decided on a more fitting one: the mycelial claws.
I immediately returned the strike of the skeleton after switching weapons, striking at the skull of the undead.
As soon as my land hit, the undead recoiled and stumbled backward, seemingly dazed.
'Huh. So the head is the weak point... neat.'
I immediately used the knowledge to my advantage, aiming for the heads of the skeletons with any chance I could get, slowly pushing the small group of undead back.
And it was at that point I remembered the dark mage.
I looked back at the mage to see them preparing a magic sphere to throw.
I immediately started to fight the skeletons with more energy, trying my best to get rid of some before the mage attacks.
By the time the mage threw the sphere, I was already done with killing 2 of the 5 skeletons.
The mage threw the sphere, and, I was able to dodge it.
Too bad a skeleton behind me wasn't.
After the third skeleton died, I began to kill the other two so that I could reach the dark mage.
It only took me a few seconds to defeat the skeletons, so I began to approach the mage once more.
-Somewhere undefined-
The Gods were watching the fight, entertained.
The first and fourth gods were interested in how the fight would go, while the second and third were doing a bad voiceover of the current events.
The second god spoke up first, taking upon the image of the dark mage.
"Oh? You're approaching me?
Instead of running away, you're coming right to me?"
The third god took up the mantle of Talon, responding to the voice of the second.
"I can't beat the shit out of you without getting closer."
Both gods were laughing by the time they finished the lines, and the other two were ignoring the childish antics in favor of watching the fight.
The first god spoke up after a good period of silence.
"Do you think he will be able to win?"
The fourth god responded with full seriousness.
"I do believe that he may win, but there is a good chance he may not."
The first god seemed pleased at the response.
"Good. That means we have a fight with an unknown end. How interesting."
The two Gods turned to an empty corner, both saying the same thing:
""We recommend that you return to the arena. You do not want to miss out on the finale of this challenge, do you?""
