I dashed through the first hallway I reach, the mechanic behind me.
I turned to see that she was moving quite a bit slower than me, and cursed silently at my oversight.
"I forgot that she doesn't have the equipment I do." I muttered.
The skull was still behind us, and it was almost done extracting itself from the wall.
I decided to take my chances and ran back to the mechanic, quickly grabbing her and throwing her over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
I ignored the angry "Oi!" in favor of dashing towards the closes hallway I can see.
As soon as I entered it I immediately noticed the horde of skeletons on the other end, only seeing their figures in the dim light of one of the water candles.
"Oh, that's not good." I said, still running straight at the horde.
"What's not good?" The mechanic asked. "I can't see since you're currently holding me like a sack of potatoes!!" She said, her voice slowly growing louder until she was shouting at me.
I rolled my eyes in exasperation.
"Well sorry for saving your life I guess." I replied. "also, can you be quieter? Skeletons may not have ears but they can still hear us you know." I asked politely.
"What, It's not like there's a horde of them in front of us right now." She said. "I can be as loud as I want."
I decided to stay silent, letting the sound of rattling bones be my answer.
"There's a horde in front of us, isn't there?" She asked with a hint of shyness.
"And we're running right at it right now." I added, waiting for her reaction.
I couldn't see her face, but I got my answer in the form of her entire body stiffening like a board.
"Are you an idiot?" She seethed.
I couldn't help but lightly laugh at that.
"More often than not, if I'm going to be honest." I said in a jovial tone.
"I'm going to die." She sighed in defeat.
I laughed again, but without much of the happy undertone.
"With that thing chasing us? most likely." I Admitted.
I could hear her aggravated sigh.
"That is NOT reassuring." She said seriously.
I smiled under my helmet.
"It was never meant to be." I said. "I live by the motto of 'expect the worst and prepare for the best', so I am quite pessimistic at times."
"Wait." she said. "Shouldn't we have met the skeletons already?"
I looked towards the end of the hallway, noting that the skeletons have not gotten any closer to us, and vice versa.
"Oh." I said, realizing what this was. "it's one of these things."
I stopped in my tracks, thinking of what to do.
"What things?" The mechanic asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Endless hallways." I answered. "We have two options due to this: We turn around and die instantly, or we walk an infinite hallway."
"Are there no other ways to leave other than walking towards Bones Magee back there?" The mechanic asked.
I snorted in amusement at the name Bones Magee, and thought of another way out.
"I can't think of any other way out other than using a magic mirror." I said, taking the mechanic off of my shoulder. "I don't think I need to carry you anymore, since we have a little time to contemplate a way out of our impending doom."
The mechanic looked at me and asked a single question:
"what does a magic mirror look like?"
I pulled my mirror out and showed it to her.
"I'm pretty sure they look like this." I said. "it's too bad we don't have one though..."
"You are an absolute dumbass." The mechanic said.
"Why?" I asked.
She snatched the mirror out of my hand and held it up for me to see.
"You have a magic mirror!" I gasped. "where did you get it from?"
She looked at me with a stare flat enough to make a person see in 2d for a moment.
"An idiotic person wearing an equally dumb set of armor." She answered.
"Ooh, where is he?" I said in an excited tone. "I wanna see how dumb the armor looks!"
{How long are you going to keep the idiot act up?} The Gods asked. {It's quite entertaining, but she will snap at some point.}
'I'm waiting for her to snap before I end the act.' I replied. 'It's quite fun to see her get so annoyed at my obliviousness.'
When I refocused on the real world, I noticed that she was looking at me with annoyance, shown by her twitching eyebrow.
"Were you listening to a thing I said?" She asked angrily.
"Nope!" I replied with a jovial tone.
She was going to respond, but got cut off by a loud roar coming from the end of the hallway we entered from.
She looked to me quickly and hurriedly asked me how to use the mirror.
"Just look into it, It's not that hard." I answered.
And so she stared into the mirror.
"Oh and don't worry about what happens next." I said. "it's only a little disorienting."
But I spoke too late, as she got shocked by the feeling of being turned into particles of... something, and lost her grip of the mirror in shock.
I looked at the mirror on the floor in a bit of surprise, since we were still in the middle of teleporting.
"Well that's not good..." I said. 'Does the mirror have any use other than a medium to teleport home?' I asked the gods.
{It acts as both a focus and an amplifier, making it so that it gives you a set location to teleport to as well as allowing you to reach it.} They explained. {Without it in contact with you, you both will most likely end up in a random part of the dungeon.}
I stared at the mirror on the floor, and looked back at the mechanic.
"Just so you know, we are officially doomed."
And then we were somewhere else.
