Chapter 2.3 Adventurers

POV David

April 8th 913 (2016)

"Well, the two of you barely passed the combat evaluation at all." The guildmaster looked at Rebecca and I with sympathetic looks. I winced and rubbed at what would likely be a few new bruises in the morning. Smith by contrast shrugged and rolled his shoulders, he'd given as good as he got.

Isa, the rouge in the tight fitting leathers nodded and rubbed her jaw. "Give him a few years, he'll be a valuable asset to the guild if he chooses to stay in instead of cashing his rank."

The guildmaster handed us polished silver plates about the size of a phone. "These are status plates, they'll serve as your guild identification."

She pulled out her own and showed us how to use the status plates. "You'll need to use some blood to register the plate to you, it is bound to you from your blood essence and can not be changed once registered."

So it's like DNA identification? I whipped some of the blood from a cut on my arm and smeared it across the indent and the tablet flashed before writing appeared on its silvery surface.

I wasn't sure what any of the information meant. I looked at the guildmaster as she continued explaining. "The attributes should have a number beside them, that's your relative strength compared to the general person. Don't be worried if there's several zeroes, hard training can raise your attributes."

"I don't have any zeroes…" Rebecca replied.

"What?" The guildmaster grabbed her plate and stared at it in shock. I edged closer to Smith and he showed me his plate. It looked similar to mine with a few differences in the distribution of the stats.

"None of us have any zeroes." I said as I looked at the guildmaster. Perhaps that was because we weren't from this world? Though Smith also had this 'hero' class and those… unknown titles that I didn't. I glanced at Rebecca's as the guildmaster snatched our plates as well.

"This is… unprecedented…" the guildmaster replied as she handed us back our plates.

"The guild will offer what resources it can to your continued development." She bowed her head to each of us.

"I will deal with the necessary paperwork, with attributes such as you have I'll grant you 'E' rank. Feel free to accept the relevant quests that are posted on the guild's quest board, they are updated every morning." The guildmaster continued before retreating.

"Congratulations on the rank." Isa bowed her head, she glanced at her party before turning back to us.

"If you guys feel up to it we'd be happy to let you join our party. You all possess the strength, just not the experience." She offered a hand.

"We'll be fine." Smith said curtly.

"We'll think about it and get back to you." I replied in a more diplomatic tone. They nodded but seemed displeased with our replies. We headed back inside and waited for a guild member to hand us our paperwork to sign. They were surprised that all of us could read and write. But after dealing with the paperwork we started chatting amongst ourselves.

"Urgh. This is annoying…" Rebecca grumbled.

"Smith, will you be attempting any of the quests tomorrow?" I asked as I nudged my sister.

He shook his head. "I'll train with the knights."

"Fair enough." I replied and turned to my sister who'd started jabbing me in the side.

"Give me the money, I want to go shopping!" She glowered at me. I gave her a look as I held up the almost empty coin purse.

"It's all…" I tried to explain our lack of funds as she snatched the purse with sweet eyes and a beaming smile.

"Thanks David!" She sang as she rushed out of the guild.

"Idiot." Smith muttered under his breath.

"How was I supposed to know she'd grab it and run?" I groused while my brother gave me a look that told me I should have known better anyway. I sighed and slumped in the seat. I'd have to take a few quests tomorrow to try and make some coin then.

Maybe I could drag Rebecca along so she could learn the value of this currency? Doubtful, she barely understood how much we worked for our salaries. She'd always been spoiled by Mom and Dad too.

To think i'd be dropped a new fantastical world. The first thing i'd have to deal with was my sister's avarice. My joy was palpable
