The Final Truth

''Why did you leave?''

Damon finally asked as he looked at her.

''Why did you suddenly disappear like that?''

He asked her as he stared at her intensely.

Ivy looked at him thoughtfully for a moment before she leaned back on her chair and crossed her legs on top of each other, like a queen as she asked.

''Does it matter?''

''Yes, it does to me.''

He responded as he sat there in front of her, his posture extremely nervous.

Ivy listened to him as she gave out a snort and asked him in return.

''What should I have done then? Waited for them to come and hunt me down like an animal...a prey? ''

"What...what are you saying? I don't understand...''

Damon said as she stared blankly at Ivy.

"Of course, you don't....''

Ivy said sarcastically before continuing,

"Because you never gave me a chance to explain...You never listened to me.....You believed what everyone was saying and assumed that I was in a real relationship with Evan...that I loved him....''

At this point, Ivy stopped as she took in a deep breath as the memories of the past flooded her mind, playing like a movie.

Looking up back at Damon, she finally decided to tell him everything....just as she had planned five years ago. Turning her head to look out of the window, Ivy continued.

''That day, after my mission was completed, I was planning on coming clean to you, I wanted to tell you everything before the government got me underground for protection.

I was going to tell you about my mission and that the only reason that I was close to Evan was that he was part of my mission....we had confirmed intellect that his family was involved with the drug cartel and the only reason why I was in a relationship with him was to uncover out information about the extent of their involvement.''

Taking a pause, Ivy looked at Damon as she told him.

"But you refused to listen to me. That is why I had to leave the city immediately with James until the government tied up all the loose ends and caught all those involved and were certain that no one was left behind, with the intent of taking revenge on me.''

Finishing this, Ivy leaned back into her chair as she called a waiter and asked for a cup of coffee. While Damon sat there, still in shock as he tried to digest all the information imparted to him.

Even though he knew some of this before, still listening to it, first-hand from Ivy still shocked him to the core.

'It was all my fault? Wasn't it...'

He thought to himself as he stared at his reflection in the glass of water in front of him.

Coming out of his daze, he looked up at Ivy. Seeing her sipping on her drink, he hesitated for a moment before asking her.

"What Rose said yesterday...about my mother forcing you to divorce me...why didn't you tell me about it?''

''Did it matter?''

Ivy asked,

''You kept on having fun as you kept on changing your partner every day, your mother just needed someone to blame, and I was the perfect target.''

Hearing this, Damon grew silent. Seeing as he was replying, Ivy got ready to leave as she messaged Eric to get the car ready. Just as she was about to hit send, Damon said,

"I never cheated on you...''

Upon hearing this, Ivy felt thankful that she had finished her coffee already, or else, she might have choked on it. Feeling amused, she asked him,

''Are you joking, Damon? To this date, newspaper articles of your daily chronicles can be found. Do you take me as a fool?''

She asked, feeling angry.

But Damon looked at her right dead in the eyes as she again said,

"I never cheated on you, Ivy....from the day we got married, I never slept with anyone except that you.''

''You are crazy.''

Ivy said as she got up from her chair and left the restaurant without looking behind.
