To Move On

With a sigh, Edward sat on the table in front of Ivy, their knees mere inches apart as he held the report in his hand and nodded.

''Hahh...''

Ivy gave a helpless laugh as she stared at the papers in Edward's hands, her eyes glaring a hole in them.

Letting out a sigh, Ivy leaned her head back on the couch as she stared at the huge crystal chandelier on the ceiling above her head.

The report she read earlier stated that her husband, the man whom she thought to be a serial cheater, was just a cover he was using.

Like her, he was also hiding behind a mask.

Seeing the unresponsive Ivy, Edward smoothened crinkled the page as he started reading out loud from it.

''The target Damon Wood, son of Lucas Wood and Debra Wood, picked up a homeless man in the year 20XX who goes by the name Merv and hired him to play as his stand-in.

He sent the man to South Korea and paid $50,000 for his face to be changed to match his employer Damon Wood.

Six months after the fulfilment of the surgery, the target started sending out the stand-in Merv to go to the city and have sexual relations with different girls every day.

The stand-in is paid monthly with a salary of $2,000. The target also gave him a penthouse under his name to the stand-in.

Each night when the stand-in acts as the target, the target uses a secret passage to his mansion and locks himself in a room near his bedroom...''

Edward finished as he looked at Ivy, who was looking blankly at the ceiling the whole time.

After what felt like a lifetime, Ivy found her voice as she asked Edward.

''I don't understand you...Sometimes you act like he is your worst enemy, and you warn me not to be swayed by him, and sometimes like this...you show me stuff which lessens my hatred towards him...What do you want, Edward?... What?''

She asked as she turned her head and looked towards Edward with her eyes blank.

''I want you to move on, Ivy. Move on from your painful past, a past with which you have tied yourself. I want you to forget everything...to let it go and be free from your past demons.

Everything that happened in the past was not your fault alone... Damon also is to blame. Even though he did all that in an attempt to save you from his voracious family, his crime doesn't change,

Your father, grandmother and many more people are to blame, Ivy. But not you. I want you to let go of all the hatred you are suppressing in your heart and to live happily and peacefully with James.

I don't want to see the pain in your eyes every time you see them.

I don't want to see you look at James while wondering what type of life have you pushed him into, a life without having only one person to call family.

I want you to move on Ivy...I really do hope and wish for it...''

Edward finished as he stood up and walked towards his room without looking at Ivy. Just as he was about to enter his room, he stopped as he suddenly remembered something and said,

''I don't wish to see you in pain anymore, Ivy..''

He said as he continued to open the door, leaving a lonely figure sitting behind, tears dripping down her eyes.

In the empty room, Ivy asked herself out loud,

"Is it not my fault? The fact that my child had to grow up a single person to call family? I know better than anyone how it feels to not have someone to rely on when you lose your only family.''
